when luna called him into a meeting by himself, he honestly didn’t know what it could be about. this definitely wasn’t the outcome he expected. the boys eyes grew wider with each word she spoke. seeing someone get so worked up over something he did – it didn’t sit right with him. sure he knew him and the band could be a bit difficult at times ( emphasis on the him ) , but he didn’t realize it was this bad. really, he didn’t think it would take that much damage control to settle it all. the band was KNOWN for being reckless, carefree – it was their aesthetic. still it was obvious by how frustrated she was that it was maybe time to take it down a notch. ‘ okay. ‘ was all he responded, very slowly as if he was almost questioning his word choice. the drummer was so thrown by her outward frustration that he couldn’t muster up any deeper response though he knew the conversation called for one. he tapped the pen in his hand against the desk separating them nervously, as adverting from her as he attempted to gather his thoughts.
his mind raced through the past couple months trying to rationalize her words and not really coming up with what they had done that was so bad. sure there were a couple awkward moments in interviews here and there. river couldn’t stand interviews, most of the interviewers tried to paint him as something as he wasn’t – so sometimes, yes, he got short with them. river just felt bad that it was coming down on her so hard that she was having this kind of reaction. ‘ hey, it’s going to be okay. ‘ he knew his attempts at comforting would probably fall short but there was something about putting in the effort. ‘ look our fans like this kind of stuff, the whole “unapologetic bad boy” thing is kind of our brand. anything too bad will be forgotten about in a couple weeks. ‘
to be completely and utterly honest, the younger girl truly DIDN’T expect him to react that way. she herself didn’t know what to expect. maybe just an immature middle finger coming from the male, him getting all heated and angry, cursing her out. but that, to her surprise, - didn’t happen. this was the very first time she had to confront him, sit him down and have a serious talk as his PERSONAL assistant. sitting at the wooden table, all she could do in that moment was stare at him, blinking, her arms crossed. trying to search for a good response, something cleaver in any way, but her brain was blanking out. for the first time ever, luna genuinely didn’t know what to say here. maybe it was because the female created a whole, big ass argument in her head before river entered the (quite gelid) room, prepared to list him all the things him & his band were doing wrong, how he didn’t listen and all of that. but right now, - he was.
her eyes widened, pupils dilated at that sentence that came out of his mouth, at him trying to visibly comfort her. well, okay. now luna was definitely starting to feel kind of BAD for coming at him like that, from the very moment he stepped into the office. signing loudly, letting out a desperate grunt. ‘ i’m not even going to lie to you right now, i wasn’t expecting you to react so..., - i don’t know. CALMLY, i guess? ’ uncrossing her arms, letting them rest on her thighs now, throwing her head back for a few seconds, just sitting there in silence. ‘ listen, - sorry if i came off extra irritated and bitchy today, it’s just that, ---------- i have been bombarded all day today with news and papers and all these fucking people trying to make you and your band look like you guys are the worst people on this god damn earth, i swear. try to tone it down just a LITTLE so everyone can shut up already. ’ refocusing on the male right in front of her, trying her best to give him a small, apologetic smile. ‘ and i appreciate you coming at me level headed and this calmly, by the way. ’
