Okay but imagine for a second that Damon and Elena both take the cure and they’re deliriously happy because they finally get to have the life they always wanted and they can start a family and grow old together but then Elena somehow gets hurt and dies in Damon’s arms and he’s so distraught that he can’t see any way to move on and just wants to end it all but then nohumanity!Stefan comes along and sees how devastated his brother is which triggers his humanity and they have a huge fight about her death because Damon just wants to die but Stefan refuses to lose his brother too so he compels Damon to forget about Elena or to think he never loved her or even to think that they mutually grew apart and she was just his friend who died and then we just get a zoomed in frame of Damon being compelled and the light dying in his eyes as he loses the memory of the only thing he could ever call home
