I have so many thoughts about the AU-ception but this one stood out to me first, so! In this scenario, Ingo is already Emmet’s brother when Emmet gets painted. Worse yet, it seems to have happened while Jawbreaker was a part of THEIR battalion. So, if it isn't too spoilery for the main AU, how might that have changed how Ingo feels about the events, compared to how he might react to it when simply hearing Emmet talk about it in the main AU? Did those feelings partly contribute to him taking the blame for Janus?
(Also it's almost heartbreaking how similar Janus' sense of retribution is to Emmet's, at least when thinking about Misfits. It feels like those two would be an unstoppable pair of menaces if given the chance.)
Congratulations on unlocking my skippable cutscene!
Yeah, Ingo definitely feels a lot guiltier! As the Captain, both Emmet and Jawbreaker are his responsibility so that's two failures right off the bat.
Additionally, prior to Jawbreaker's betrayal Ingo was the one who was trying the hardest to intergrate Jawbreaker with the rest of the battalion. Including mediating for him and asking the others to be kind and patient with Jawbreaker, even when he was being a bit of an abelist dickhead. He felt a lot of sympathy for Jawbreaker's situation and really was trying his hardest to reach out to him. (Even though Jawbreaker was an ungrateful jerk about it. He was extremely resentful of Ingo being the captain and not him, not helped by the fact he felt like Ingo was Being The Captian incorrectly.)
Furthermore, part of the reason Jawbreaker was able to get Emmet alone with him in the first place is because Emmet was the one who took Giving Jawbreaker A Chance the most seriously. Partly out of his own responsibilities as second-in-command, but also because Ingo asked him too. Out of everyone, Jawbreaker responded the best to Emmet.
(Emmet and Janus share verrry similar thoughts on justice and they are menaces together! The two of them are close in the AU. Idk how clear this is in the fic itself since I leave a lot of it implied, but Emmet was very much in on and contributed to the Arson plot, alongside My. There's a reason those three specifically were involved in the raid, and why they act noticeablly Weird around Ingo when he gets back.)
So yeah! That definitely does contribute to Ingo deciding to take the fall for Janus, but tbh he would have done that anyway lol
Although! Speaking of things which are different from the main AU in regards to this particular event! Emmet's trauma response is also pretty different!
Whereas main Emmet's response was to further isolate himself, to the point where he's not even okay with Ingo being in the general vicinity while he's being wound up, this Emmet instead ends up falling back on his support system. In contrast, he can't stand being alone while being wound up, he needs his siblings there - the more of them there are, the safer he feels. And he gets anxious if it's done anywhere besides Gear Barracks, with the door firmly locked.
draw ingo however you want but dont go around saying this look is ugly. like come on that's just his head :( he's charming now and he's charming with the flowy anime cuts you give him
number one rule of good storytelling is "just tell people and don't show any of the cool stuff you want to have happen".
anyways, i think that eventually ingo ends up near the distortion world equivalent of where he first went missing as a kid and through some kind of altercation with giratina ends up dying weirdly and his ghost ends up back in unova, and is kind of tethered to emmet because he was kind of the only thing ingo could latch onto. it's like when yugi solved the puzzle and passed out and the puzzle spirit started possessing him but like unprompted and neither party has any clue what the fuck is going on so they both freak out bad. ingo also, like atem, does not have any idea what his name is. not because it was sealed away though, just because he's just been wandering the distortion world for so long basically everything about himself has left him
eventually emmet and this Nameless Ghost Guy figure out he's "from sinnoh" so their big idea is to have emmet go through the pokemon league so as to get a way to directly communicate with cynthia, and ingo's passion for the whole thing alongside having such an important-feeling goal to work on ends up kind of giving emmet that drive he was missing. it's a win win except for all the ways it sucks. and other stuff happens too
in an ideal world i would be far better at storytelling, but unfortunately in this world this is what you all get for now
enduring the mortifying ordeal of being known for downloading and putting these two clips together but i must be brave... for my fellow ingo enjoyers... i present this with shaking paws... i just think he sounds nice...
