okay im bad at writing shit fleshed out yet so instead of waiting until i can do that im gonna word vomit a basic bullet point of what i have for hazel's backstory so far ok. okay yay
not the SAME "coloring book" as coco but did receive something similar. ran away from home at a young age after accidentally burning their village down. kept some of the pages + pen and ink.
became aware of their system in their late teens. 17-19 range.

laid low in the magic aspect for a good while, never drew spells in towns, only testing things out where no-one saw them. never touched a fire sigil after the first incident.
that is until they found someone hurt, and attempted to use magic to help them... but it was a magical incident that hurt the person, so you know what that means...

Hazel is left wandering aimlessly for a few years after this. host gone, other alters trying to figure out what the fuck just happened and why do they still remember some spells and the secret to magic but barely remember anything of their childhood now.
they dont dabble in magic for years after this, terrified of what could happen should they be caught a second time.
but ah-ah! it was the brimmed caps that introduced them to magic in the first place!
they had nearly forgotten all about magic until a Kind Witch showed up and seemed very interested in them!

while still not casting spells (fear + no pen and ink), Hazel IS back to trying to research magic as discreetly as possible. if magic was used to curse them, surely it can be used to fix them, right?
i gotta rewatch season 1 after i finish it for a couple reason but mostly timeline-planning, the CURRENT idea is they find him in between episodes 2 and 3, id assume he wasnt just at the great hall getting coco's affairs in order since he was gone a few days
call it sheer luck that something in Hazel told them to trust this witch in particular, after one glace, they followed him until they were out of sight of other people, and basically begged for help finding a way to undo their curse, theyll do anything etc
were they just begging to be apprenticed he probably wouldve said no, but whats that? cursed? possibly by the brimmed caps? Hazel had the ultimate get-to-atelier-free card and didnt even know it <3
and then they fell in love and lived happily ever after-/JOKE
but yeah aside from the whole passing out when the Knights Moralis almost nuked coco's brain thats all i got for now! i will. Try and draw them at some point if i can wrangle my tablet to this new desk correctly
