I know this is a fun tweet and all that but it absolutely is an instance of striaght privilege. Heterosexual people have up to seven years to explore their sexual and romantic attraction in an environment that is designed for them while many queer youth deligate their time in maneuvering their identity in response to themselves and their environment. It’s one of the reasons why dating as a queer adult is so hard: so many of us are romantically undersocialized when compared to our heterosexual peers, who are not only given social liscence to explore themselves, but who have the additional benefit of being able to see themselves in media.

There will always be exceptions to this, of course, but it’s so sad to see how the effects of childhood homophobia haunt us well into our adult years, to the point where it limits our opportunity to connect with other people around us.

was not happy and gave up being captain of the atlas so quickly.

by s7 shiro had been through so much and we were meant to question how he would fit into the story and among all the paladins again. he was recovering and keith was piloting black. the moment he became captain of the atlas was so rewarding—for him and for us. the atlas was his new purpose, his new calling. i truly believe no one else could have piloted that ship but shiro. no one else could have turned it into a mech. it was meant for him and he was happy about it.

to say he finally found happiness—that he was only truly happy when he quit and got married—is absurd and insulting to his character, what he stands for, and to the fans he represented.

the image of shiro as a gay person of color being captain of the atlas and representing earth in the galactic coalition would have been so incredibly strong and would have held so much significance.
