Daeron shot to his feet when he heard the thumping gallop of the horses approaching the camp. "They're back!" he called, running already. Wraith followed, her stomach twisting as she counted the riders—too few, too battered... and Gwayne nowhere to be seen among them.
"Where's my uncle...?" Daeron asked, panic creeping into his voice as he came to the same realization. Wraith's jaw tightened.
"—I rushed up ahead to report to my Lord cousin," Gwayne chipperly announced from behind them, grinning as he came into view. "Didn't want to keep you waiting any longer than I had to."
"Uncle Gwayne!" Daeron lunged forward, throwing his arms around him so fiercely that Gwayne staggered back with a laugh. "Easy there, lad." He said, ruffling the boy's hair, then returning the hug.
Wraith sighed in relief.
"Don’t ever scare us like that again," She said to Gwayne, grabbing his upper arm and pulling him towards her, close enough for her breath to brush his cheek. "Hm?"
Gwayne turned his smile on her, knowing there was no bite to her words. "I wouldn't dream of it. Why would I?"
She rolled her eyes and pressed a kiss to his cheek, soft and sweet. She was far too happy to see him well. Starved as he was for affection, where was the harm in letting him have this, once in a while?
i flip between gratification and second-hand embarrassment watching this fandom do mental gymnastics & jumping thru hoops like a circus act to pretend gwayne cant stand criston. that white baby is hanging on that man's every word even when he disagrees with him. that's the man who's been his sister's sole protector for years, he murdered for her took beatings to besmirch her political enemies publically and further her factional goals. gwayne calls the king his nephew but it's criston who raised him and the woman the realm calls queen was once a little girl who used to show that man her favorite larvae. that man's prowess has seen aemond tame visenya's fury as a boy and overcome his handicap to become a deadly swordsman as a grown man. alicent saved his life and charged him with bringing gwayne back alive and she is his beacon to follow. gwayne half wishes he was criston because he couldnt be there for alicent like him and he half wants to kiss him because he was there for alicent when gwayne couldnt be. before they were bound through alicent and her kids and now theyre bonded to each other.
so people can in fact see that teenage daeron is being abused and manipulated by an older relative into a position he never wanted but have for some reason been unable to extend the same understanding and sympathy to alicent who went through exactly the same thing at his age……right.
i genuinely don't understand why people are upset about the changes to the nettles plotline, why was everyone so excited to watch daemon groom a black teenage girl into a relationship with him? i am glad they are not making us watch that, the fuck 😭😭😭
I thinking having Daemon betray Rhaenyra for his daughter rather than running off with some random girl he hooked up with is a much more interesting storyline

EVENT MASTERLIST
The camp was too still. There was no laughter, not even some hush of conversations. It seemed even the last remnants of hope had fled it, leaving only silence behind.
The night before battle.
You found Gwayne sitting alone outside his tent on a fallen log. His blade didn’t need sharpening anymore yet he kept drawing stone over steel.
He looked up as your footsteps approached.
"I hoped you'd be asleep."
You sat down beside him.
"I couldn't."
He nodded, understanding without asking why.
For a long moment, neither of you spoke. The silence was full enough.
Finally, your fingers found his sleeve.
"I really need you tonight."
The whetstone stopped.
Gwayne laid the sword aside and turned fully toward you.
The corners of his mouth lifted into a faint smile. It broke as soon as it appeared.
Gwayne’s hand rose, then stopped halfway, fingers curling back into his palm. He had stopped himself so many times before. He had built walls, kept his distance, set boundaries and rules.
Because he was bound by duty, he had honour… because… he was a damn fool.
"You have me," he whispered, taking your hand in his. He bowed his head and lifted it to his lips, pressing small, gentle kisses against your palm, before pressing it against his cheek.
"There's nothing I can do if tomorrow chooses me."
"But until sunrise..."
He closed the last inch between you.
"...I'm yours."
The kiss began softly, his lips brushing yours in a ghost of a trembling touch, but the moment you answered him, Gwayne let out a muffled sound and cupped your jaw with both hands, pulling you closer.
“I’m all yours,” he whispered against your lips. “If you’ll have me.”
i think alys and addam would be such a nice ship, or alys and gwayne, or addam and gwayne, i am in the business of shipping the people i find prettiest together
Freddie Fox repeated twice in interviews that Gwayne is constantly trying to find hope & humanity even in the darkest corners of everything. & he's searching for light in the middle of all this mess because he believes there could be a light at the end of the tunnel while Cole believes they are all just going to die or become monsters
