I was obsessed with Jily since like 2007, had a brief Drastoria phase, then a NextGen phase, circled back to Jily, and eventually drifted away from the fandom altogether by 2013. Returning to find a whole new characterisation of Wolfstar and a new James ship (what even is JEGULUS 😭😭) has been an experience, I tell you.

Fair warning though: I'm very keen on canon ships. So while I did enjoy Wolfstar back in the day, you'll probably find more RemaDora here in the forest of Jily and Sirius. Ofc it goes without being said, but I am very anti jkr. She's the reason I end up dipping from the fandom every now and then

I want you to go out with me.”   After a long pause, in which I sucked in and then licked my lips, but she still hadn't said anything, I urged in a quieter tone, “Go on… go out with me.” Hogwarts fic - James Potter POV where he's an asshole, but disastrously and completely head-over-heels in love with Lily Evans.

Out in the world he meets Lily Evans, a sharp-witted English student who quickly wins him over with biscuits, praise, and the sort of attention any self-respecting Labrador (and, frankly, James Potter) would find utterly irresistible.

Chapter 6: The International Confederation of Wizards

Sirius sat opposite James as the Grand European Magical Locomotive tore across the countryside, fields and villages dissolving into streaks of green and gold beyond the window. The carriage hummed softly along the rails, the motion so smooth it was almost disorienting—enchantments cushioning every jolt, every turn. They were moving faster than any Muggle train could hope to manage, and yet it felt like gliding.

He had first ridden the line at twelve, perched beside his Uncle Alphard with his nose pressed shamelessly to the glass. That summer had unfolded like something out of a storybook—one long, wandering journey across the continent. They drifted from hidden magical villages to crowded wizarding streets, spent afternoons in dusty museums and evenings in the sitting rooms of Alphard’s friends. Sirius remembered a dragon reserve somewhere in the mountains, the heat of it against his face, the thrill of standing just a little too close. He remembered goblins who spoke in clipped, careful tones, and late nights spent dozing in the train’s narrow berth as the world rushed on toward the next destination.

He had loved every moment of it.

At sixteen, he’d sworn he would do it again—properly this time. A grand tour with James, Remus, Peter. No chaperones, no itinerary. Just freedom, and the open stretch of magical Europe laid out before them.

But life, as it had a habit of doing, had taken a different turn.

War had come instead. Responsibilities. Loss.

And so Sirius hadn’t boarded the train again until now—fourteen years later, at twenty-six.

Not for adventure. Not for freedom. But for a meeting.

“I don’t need a chaperone, you know,” James said, breaking into Sirius’s thoughts.

A bit from chapter two on its way to being published this week, in which the girls run into the boys in Muggle London, and the start of many curious things in Lily Evans' brain!

“Lots of people buy me lots of things," Lily slurred through the gin. "My friend Mary bought me this dress, y’know?”

“Thank god for that.” Oscar cleared his throat. “It’s a very nice dress, Evans.” He shifted a bit in his seat before moving his hand a few inches higher, circling his ring finger just above her knee. 

“It looks bloody great on me, doesn’t it?”

Oscar swallowed, before releasing a hoarse, “Yeah.”

If Sev could see her now. About to kiss or fuck or do whatever with a Muggle. He would shit his half-blood, bloody blood-purist pants. Fuck him. Muggles were great. This Muggle got stiff from just looking at her ninety minutes ago. Muggles were fucking great, and Lily betted this one fucked great too. Really, truly, fuck Severus Snape.

She felt limitless, immortal, with this boy twirled around her finger, no magic, no spells, until—

“Evans?”

As she parted her mouth near the Muggle boy's lips, her heart skipped for several moments, at first because it couldn’t have been him all the way here in London, and then because of the absurdity of what if it was. Her name in his mouth sounded so shocked, so simply confused, that Lily knew he was as equally and purely astonished as she. A voice once full of snide jeers and taunts, of relentless pursuit, was suddenly stripped bare of all pretence. It was him, just him, just—

She turned around. 

It was James fucking Potter.

His eyes bore into hers for several chilling seconds, drying up every ounce of gin in her body. Then, as a pit burrowed in her stomach, his eyes dragged down the rest of her body, the disheveled sleeves, the neckline that Oscar had twisted around his fingers, the awkwardly-hiked hem. 

Potter's right hand was placed in his pocket in that careless way he lounged about existence. But his left hand, free of all fabric, was as white-knuckled as she had ever seen it. Lily swallowed, lost for all words in her new sobriety.

“Potter! What are…?”

“Who the fuck is this?” Oscar's eyes narrowed as he glanced, affronted, between the two of them.

“I’m James Potter,” he said, seemingly very unimpressed with the sight before him. He performed a similar glance over Oscar as he had to Lily; the former’s shirt was untucked, the tie completely loosened, his pants all wrinkled. James fucking Potter was not impressed. James fucking Potter looked one half step away from furious. “And you have five seconds to tell me why I shouldn’t knock your teeth in.”

Oscar looked completely perplexed. “Lily never said nothin’ ‘bout havin’ a boyfriend,” Oscar said, placing a palm against his glistening forehead. “Christ, mate, I didn’t know.”

Lily whipped around to Potter, who managed to look quite impassive. So he was still campaigning for this shit? That was so… so… O.W.L.s. 

“‘Lily’ is not my girlfriend,” Potter remarked, an edge to his voice, “just a friend. Doesn’t make it any less barbaric to paw at her like this while she's drunk."

sirius telling harry in passing that james loved the beatles, but harry is desperate for a way to connect with his father so he takes it to heart, and it's the first thing that pops up in his mind whenever anybody mentions james.

so. after the war, he buys ever single beatles record ever. he doesn't actually know which songs james liked, but he guesses that probably the ones he likes, he would too. he is able to connect with his dad as a person, having something so mundane to hold onto.

one day, he is home alone, so he puts on a record. double fantasy by john lennon and yoko ono. and everything's fine, until.

he hears the opening chords to beautiful boy and his body has a reaction. he starts sobbing inexplicably. so he replays it, over and over again until he falls asleep.

he dreams of james, bent over a crib, singing softly to a baby while the song plays in the background. he feels james kissing his temple, he feels it in his hands, the way the soft hair in the nape of james' neck felt beneath his baby hands. he visualizes soft, brown eyes and a dimple on a left cheek, just like his own. a house where there was laughter and music, a home, if only for a year.

the mind forgets, but the body remembers.

not using AI genuinely feels like the rest of the world is experiencing some kind of mass amnesia. if someone says they never use it, the immediate response is that can't be true because "everyone" uses it to write their emails or answer their questions. saw a comment suggesting that not using chatgpt to write an essay is "like the 90s". girl I graduated in 2021 and we weren't doing that! how is it that everyone has suddenly forgotten that they were entirely capable of doing these things all by themselves for their entire lives up until the past few years!! am I going crazy!!!

Fleamont heads off to bed early, pleading age and early mornings in the garden, leaving James and Lily alone in the kitchen with the remains of dinner.

James tries, briefly, to refuse her help, but it’s a losing battle.

She stands at the counter, drying as he washes, the two of them moving around each other with an ease that feels… new. They never had this when they were teenagers. Truthfully, it’s a bit strange, seeing him like this.

Strange, and—good.

He’s so adult.
