harry potter aesthetics: classic slytherin girls
I do good, but I am not an angel. I do sin, but I am not the devil.
Helen Bennet Next Gen
Sarah Hyland to Mila Kunis
Loren pursed her lips, scanning her thoughts for an appropriately wild idea while ignoring Helen’s look of irritation. Her Slytherin counterpart had been a good friend to her recently, and despite her teasing and apparent lack of concern for anyone other than herself, Loren genuinely enjoyed having her around.
“Well, I jumped off a bridge with Aine O’Hannigan once. We could do that. Or we could drop stink pellets ‘round the Hufflepuff common.” She wasn’t pleased about their loss, to say the very least. “Or we could sneak off to Hogsmeade n’ talks some older wizards into buyin’ us dinner.”
“What?” The words came out sudden and aghast because in no world did that even sound close to safe. “No, no. I have enough stress to even think about that-- You’re alive and I won’t question it. And I’ll have to pass on the stink pellets.” That didn’t even seem like a remotely good prank, but Helen supposed she preferred something more if a trick than that. Besides, Arthur could be there and a stink bomb wouldn’t help with their reconciliation. Well, realistically, Arthur would retaliate and Helen wasn’t up for it.
The last option, however....”You don’t think we’d be able to get into the Cellar, do you?” She asked feigning coyness.
As soon as Helen started on about extra credit, Loren stopped in her track rather dramatically, pulling the other girl back. “More schoolwork?” She asked, a look of horror plastered across her face. Melodramatic, sure, but she was sure to sell it. “I’m barely muddlin’ through my schoolwork as is with Quidditch n’ all n’ s’much as I need to keep my marks up to hold on to my spot in the Ministry, I’ll blow my fookin’ brains out if I’ve got to do anymore schoolwork today.” She raised a brow, a mischievous glint in her eye. “We ought to do somethin’ wild, Helen. You need somethin’ more excitin’ in ya life than me n’ your greenhouse.”
At first Helen thought Loren was just being dramatic about her joking answer, until she realized Loren thought she was serious. She pursed her lips together and rolled her head slightly, staring off for a brief moment, as Loren offered a better suggestion.
“Of course, Loren, what sort of wild thing have you got in mind then?” Helen asked her, not bothering to clarify her joke from earlier, because it still seemed funny either way.
Tying her hair back as she jogged off the Pitch, Loren beamed at the sight of Helen waiting for her, a certain smugness dripping into her tone as she started to tease the other girl. “Oi, pretty lady, ya come ‘ere often?” As she met Helen, she linked her arm with the other brunette, starting along with her whilst still sporting her grin. “Where we off to today, then?”
Helen let out a laugh at Loren’s greeting. She was never so blatantly welcomed before. Her only friends-- Cam and Sam, weren’t the type to be so loudly cheerful. She liked this. The arm loop threw her a little, but Helen only adjusted to fit better. “I was thinking we could fertilize some plants and then do some extra credit, and if we have more time, I know Madam Pince needs the library reorganized.”

As the Gryffindor Quidditch practice ended, Helen stood waiting on the sidelines for Loren to be finish up. She saw the players packing and that was when she walked up to Loren in the field. “Ready to go, Loren?”

“Well, that’s something to look into, then. Probably better than sitting and worrying about…everything else.” Smoothing her skirt, Calla picked at the material. Then, looking at Helen, a small smile spread across her face. “…Well, she did say she was getting tired of teaching old Mister Wickham how to tend to roses. But really Helen…my mother isn’t the most reasonable employer. Are you…are you sure?”
Helen admitted she didn’t know a lot about the Goodes. Just what most Pure-blooded families knew about them-- that they were large with strange traditions. But for the most part, it couldn’t be something Helen couldn’t handle. “If it’s a decent job with a decent wage, I’ll take it.” She said certainly.

Calla looked at Helen. “Fruits? Well, would I be scaring them or impressing them? Because I could try. How hard can it be to transfigure a full wizard right?” Dropping the subject had no effect on Calla’s grasp of Transfiguration. A corner of her mouth lifted in half of a smile, nodding. “Sounds pleasant. I never liked working outdoors, I’m afraid. But…you should come visit the manor. Mother could always use extra hands in her gardens.” The suggestion was offered with a shrug; surely Helen would have better things to do than that.
“Well, I’m not the best at Transfiguration, so actually, I’d might be a little impressed.” Helen nodded at Calla’s comment before sitting straighter, surprised with the offer. “The Infamous Goode Gardens?” Helen repeated. “That’d be a privilege.” Thinking about the extra hands, Calla mentioned, Helen hesitated before asking, “You don’t think your mother’s looking for a full-time gardener, is she?”

“I’m not even sure what I’m doing in class anymore. Potions was a mess and Charms was a disaster. Not to mention, I might have messed up my Ancient Runes assignment. My academic career might be coming to a grinding halt as we speak.” Calla lamented, a rueful smile across her face. Raking fingers through her hair, the Head Girl took a breath and paused. She would pick up again; if she could find herself in a better mental space, that was. Future. It was a scary word, and Calla found herself gazing ahead. “Plants? It’s an…interesting choice. I mean, mother has a very nice rose garden that she mostly keeps to one up our neighbours. And there’s our garden, and all the shrubs and topiary…It sounds so peaceful.”
“I don’t think there’s any possible way you could fail the year at this point. Maybe if you showed up for NEWTs and turned all the examiners into...I don’t know, fruits?” Helen offered an encouraging smile. “Oh? That does sound really nice. My mother used to have a garden and I used to help her with that. Now, I just tend to the Greenhouses. I have a lot of experience working with them anyways.”
