‘The colour I associate with my dog is the light brown/red of her fur on the sides of her face. My dog was part of a litter bred by a friend in Kansas. She knew I wanted a dog eventually and reached out specifically about a certai puppy (Cookie) who we then bought/ adopted. She’s exceptionally sweet, and has never barked at a dog ever. She thinks things over, and very observant.’

This was my second time visiting Catherine’s Puppies, a local dog shelter. These puppies had just arrived at the shelter and are all looking for a new owner to adopt them!

‘Whats your favourite memory with Castanova?’

‘His name was Castanova. But we generally called him Nova. One of the fondest memories we have of him is one of our last, playing a round of disk golf. He loved hiking and camping with us. The beach was also a favorite of his. He spent 10 long years with us and we went on a lot of adventures together. It's honestly hard to single any one out.’

‘I have seriously thought of resignation when Mini was in her terminal stage. Just after Mini graduated in Jan this year, I thought I can never adopt another dog, but grateful I have good friends (some online & others in reality) walked with me through the difficult times. That’s why I adopted Morgan in April 2018. At that time, Mini needed 24-hr intensive care, I slept with her on the floor instead of my bed, fed her by hand every mouthful, turned her around every 2 hours, manual expression for her to pee & poo, BD dressing for her wounds, regular plus ad hoc vet visits... ...I took a very long leave. Grateful I have understanding colleagues, otherwise I’ll quit my job. Nothing is more important than Mini at that time. And I didn’t regret that.’ @mickey20060708 ⭐️

Do you have a pet like @vixxipixie’s? ‘She is basically the boss of our home 😎. She is very popular because of her super white coat and friendly vibe. She is also rather clean, she drinks alot of water and knows how to wipe her mouth after with a cloth (she has many weird human behaviours).’

I asked about Happy’s favourite colour and personality and this is what @vixxipixie said: ‘Happy is her name! It would be red, it is her favourite toy colour, suits her too bright and happy like her name. She is boyish, crazy, spoiled but smart, independent, very friendly to people. Picky with dog friends though.’😂

A chance for the dog with 3 toes - SIU B 🐾

Desperately hoping someone will give him a chance. Something (or everything) about this beautiful natured boy - who's still only young, two years old, just pulls at your heart. There's really so much love in him to give, he just needs a family/companion of his own to love him back and give him a better life than we can.

Yesterday we took in a new dog at the shelter. I am very reluctant to take in older dogs because we've already got too many, we don't have a huge success rate homing them. I only agreed to take Siu B because he really had nowhere else to go - and he's been through so much... Living stray, Siu B was badly injured in a traffic accident. The worst injury was to his back leg which was saved but he lost two of his toes and quite a lot of tissue. It's really very hard for me to explain just how bad the injury was without sharing the photos (not for the faint hearted) but believe me, it was horrific. On top of that, he also needed surgery for dislocated knees and (unrelated to the accident) entropion surgery on both eyes.

A wonderful family who do a lot of rescue work behind the scenes (and prefer to remain anonymous) rescued him and raised the $150k needed for his surgeries and recovery. They had to use savings of their own and appeal to friends and other dog lovers to help. All amazing people.

Considering Siu B only came to us recently, he's settled quickly and I can honestly say he's one of the most affectionate and lovely dogs I've met. He loves people and is also great with the other dogs, doesn't seem at all phased by our big (and often rowdy) crowd at all.

What did strike me when I first met him, besides how sweet natured and placid he is, is how old he looks. Hard to believe he's just a youngster, only two/three years old. He really has had it tough.

Health wise now, his surgery wounds have healed and though he will never be a hiking companion, he walks fine and will be a great companion in so many other ways. He's desexed and up to date with all things medical.
