Finished my first D&D campaign this last weekend... thinking about Toblen Stonehill.

He was an adventurer until his entire party went missing and he woke up, dazed and spellscarred - unable to recall what had happened in the cave they had wandered into days prior. Since that fateful day, he's been acting as an innkeeper in a small mountain town nearby.

The PCs, of course, adopted him immediately lol

I'll make a statement regarding Ethel Cain as it's pretty obvious that my art has been inspired by her (and may continue to be) -

I think multiple things can be true in this situation:

The racism was inexcusable and Ethel needed to take accountability.

Going forward, POC fans impacted by her statements are owed the time and space to discuss the hurt caused and are under no obligation to forgive.

White fans NEED to listen to what is being said instead of making hollow excuses and hand waving the behavior. If anything, white fans should also be apologizing for their conduct throughout this situation. I've seen way too many POC fans literally say that they feel unsafe in fan spaces because of how white fans have reacted. THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE.

Simultaneously, there should be no tolerance of transphobia / transphobic rhetoric within these discussions. Entertaining the narratives that Ethel is somehow appropriating the struggles of cis woman within her art does nothing but embolden bigots and disregards the real everyday violence trans women face.

Finally, I'm not done reflecting on this situation so I can't definitively state whether I'll continue to post works inspired by her or not. This has been a dizzying past fews days and I think I need more time to process. If anyone has an opinion as a fellow artist inspired by Ethel's work, please do share what you may doing going forward.

I also welcome any and all opinions and perspectives on the situation in general here on my page. Please just be respectful ❤️

Its always disturbing how people rush to defend the actions of someone they don't actually know instead of listening to the people they've actually hurt. It's very telling of their character

I don't really endorse 'cancelling' as a concept, because I think we need to be striving for accountability above all (in this situation and beyond!) but if you think racism is funny get fucked actually <3
