ย ย ย ย ย loretta wouldnโt be one to walk into a bar on the lordโs day โ she may be condemned as a sinner, but her mama still raised her to respect her sundays โ but, god, today had been a doozy. she sips on her frilly drink, minding her own business ; she needed a drink after the shenanigans had ensued all night. sheโd been warned when she was hired for this job that the guy might put up a fightย โ and put up with a fight, he did. but loretta didnโt mind, necessarily. she always liked a challenge. looking up at jade, she gives her a smile, and laughs a little bit.ย โ oh, honey, you donโt even wanna know. โ she shakes her head a little bit, downs the last of her drink.ย โ another one of these, please? โ she rests her face in her hand, adding,ย โ just a long day at work. โ
JADE NODS AND SWIFTLY MAKES A START on preparing the beverage.ย โyouโd be surprised. i love a good story,โ she jests, perhaps overstepping a line. itโs not that she ever intended to stick her nose in other peopleโs business, but sometimes it ended up happening since she genuinely just held an interest in the differing everyday experiences of others. everyone who walked into the bar had a story, and those stories often creeped out due to the influence of the alcohol combined with jadeโs almost magic ability to make people feel comfortable in conversations.ย it was why she enjoyed the job so much. she knew when to take a hint, though.ย โah, i know how that is,โ she responded, sliding the drink over to her gently.ย โluckily for you i find this to be a pretty good place to unwind, but of course... employeeโs bias.โ
SUNDAY EVENINGS were always the slowest times for bars. sure as the sun rising, it was a certainty. but, rest assured โ so long as there was a sign on the door that read:ย โopen!โ , thereโd be at least a few customers.ย โthank god people have turned up, you lot saved me from like...โ jade gave a quick glance at her wrist-watch.ย โat least an hour of pretending to look busy.โ after a shift at the art studio this afternoon and an extra-long shift here, too, she mightโve fallen asleep on the spot if she had nobody to talk to on the job.ย โcan i getchaโ anything else? iโll make you an offer โ keep me entertained with conversation and the next oneโs on the house.โ before they could even respond, she grabbed a glass, clearly confident that her offer would be accepted.ย โtell me about your life. whatโs goinโ on with you? anything interesting?โ

BACKGROUND
jade is the daughter of two business-people. the pair of them strict & straight as a line for her whole childhood. she was born in seattle, but since her father is dutch (hence her last name) and her mother is albanian, the family spent a lot of time travelling to their respective homelands, which was just about the most fun she had as a child. when at home in baltimore, she was kept under close supervision as her parents were the typical snobby, superficial semi-wealthy types and way too overprotective.
leaving the states for long periods at a time made it somewhat hard for jade to keep a friendship group, so she found fun in things that she could do alone like painting, writing and music.
but this wasnโt the most satisfying thing in the world for a child so extroverted. she was a people person from birth and just wanted to be surrounded by other people. luckily, when she reached high school, the familyโs travelling out of the country settled down a little
of course, around this time is when she developed a taste for fun. she wanted to hang out and go to parties and stuff like a normal teenager but again, her parents were still being way too strict & sheltering her. this was the beginning of her disconnect from her parents. it wasnโt that she wasnโt grateful for them & their financial support but their overprotective ways were... a lot.
after graduating high school, she was off to study at a seattle university. the kicker was, though, that her parents had pushed her to study business so she could follow in their footsteps. but this wasnโt something she was passionate about โ and jade ended up dropping out.
scared to face her parents after this bold move they wouldnโt approve of, she became a bit of a vagabond, couch-surfing at her friendsโ places for a while and just contacting her parents every now and then. she had a barista job, so she could always help out her friends with rent, but after a couple years she decided couch-surfing was no way to live and wanted a new start.ย
in a rather dramatic and impulsive move, she ran away to new york with nothing but some savings and one suitcase of belongings, keeping this from her parents.ย
she got to seneca about 6 months ago, bagging herself a tiny little apartment. no longer reaping the benefits of her parents support, she struggled for money, so she picked up two jobs. luckily, though, she found two that she enjoyed: one as a bartender, gaining her the thing she loves the most: the opportunity to meet people. the other as an assistant in an art studio, organizing supplies and overseeing sales for the artists.ย
in her spare time, sheโs creating her own paintings. her signature color in her portraits is yellow, as she aims to create work that makes people happy. her goal is to become an independent artist and get her work in galleries.
despite being 23, jade has decided to reward herself a second adolescence, since her mom and dad were too strict to really allow her one. when sheโs not working, sheโs focusing a lot of her time on partying, having fun and making mistakes and learning from them. maybe she needs a reality check, but sheโs not willing to acknowledge that yet.
