Francine Van Hove (1942-2025) — The Sphinxes and the Dictionary [oil on canvas, 1985]
The story of my life…plenty of words but the plot was thin
Cats meow, the dogs will heal
Tell me what I should be thinking, where to go, what to do
Why the hell has the world stopped spinning?
Why is the sky blue?
Where shall I go when there are no more fools?
There are no more rainbows, no sunsets over mountains, no carnival monkeys dancing for nickels
Just too many words and no more answers
Too much time on our hands with nothing worthwhile to do
Too much worthwhile with no time to do
No, a box will not do, I am a round peg
Clowns will not do for they melt in the sun
And stars do not shine, they die
If nothing else, and there should be nothing else, I do believe I shall camp myself on this window shelf, watch the day go by, see all you laugh and cry til the sun gets tired and says goodbye. But if by chance, there’s a passing poodle or shaggy lab I’ll wave my tail, shake my fur, jump on down and sniff their ass. If they pass the smelling test it’s off to feast on sidewalk cafe table scraps.
The importance of curiosity is in possibilities. There's always something else around the next bend, up or down stairs or back from where you came. Discovery is for everyone, unbound by the distraction of immediate gratification. Exceptions to the rule would include chasing rabbits down a hole and beating burning bushes.
"When the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace,"
Jimi Hendrix 1968
Life cannot be as simple as a cup of coffee and a twisted roll of dough covered in cinnamon and frosting. If it isn’t don’t tell me til I’m finished.

Happy Antifa Day everyone!!
Power, greed, racism, and the fear of losing all three.
Memorial Day Weekend Silence and Respect.
“All gave some, some gave all”
And one should stay silent and show some respect. but he won’t.
Never take a book, magazine or phone into your bathroom. However, do not fail to make it a place of relaxation and physical attraction. If you gotta go, you might as well make it a pleasurable experience.
“Bookstores are lonely forts, spilling light onto the sidewalk. They civilize their neighborhoods.”
– John Updike
If there could be but a book store on every street, in every town, , places of peace and serenity where folks go in with shoulders slung, only to met by the intoxicating smells of dusty books, their ink blots words reaching out with welcoming hands begging, “read me, read me, read me first”.
With a cup of hot coffee, of course.
William Burroughs.
