“please tell me you didn’t eat that.” -- @hellfirejeff
Jeff didn't go to a lot of 'popular rich kid' parties, but Eddie had convinced him to come and help him 'scam some cash off the assholes' and he did need a little extra money after he'd managed to create a sizable dent in his mom's car that was too big for his buddies to pop out.
He had stationed himself by a table of plastic cups with a tray of brownies designed to truly knock someone on their ass and waited for the people Eddie would send his way to buy them off him.
He'd zoned out a bit when he noticed the girl holding what looked like one of said brownies.
"Please tell me you didn’t eat that.” Oh shit. Does she know?
Claire looked to him, hearing his question, then to the couple bites left of the brownie she'd eaten. Admittedly she'd had a few drinks, but just enough to lower her inhibitions. She was nowhere near drunk.
"Uh....should I not have? I thought they were for everyone," she breathed, confusion flashing across her features. The poor thing never put two and two together. She'd never done any drugs in her life.
@hellfirejeff
"My mom is a nurse. I promise you she'd be dragging me to the hospital for a drug test," she laughed, honestly comforted even by his presence.
"I don't want to keep you out if you have a curfew though," she realized, thinking it over.
@hellfirejeff
He make a little noise to say 'don't worry about it.'
"My mom thinks I'm spending the night at Gareth's I've got nowhere to be but here until you're all good."

Claire nodded, though she still felt off, she wasn't afraid anymore. Uncurling herself from her place in the floor, she took the soda he brought her.
"I would have been in so much trouble if I had gone home."
@hellfirejeff
He sat up with a smile handed her the drink. "Oh yeah, never fun to try to fake being not high around the parents." He laughed a bit, "One time, Eddie didn't warn me that the joint he'd rolled was some kind of super bud and we shared it on the way home from Hellfire." He shook his head, "I had to pretend I had developed an allergy to explain the red eyes and seeming off. Now my mom doesn't bring home flowers."

She was trying to just breathe.
Nodding, she tried to focus.
"I hear you. I hear the music out there, and I hear...uh....this is gonna sound dumb, but like this weird sound in my ears. Probably just my anxiety making that happen though," she muttered honestly.
@hellfirejeff
He nodded, "That's good, it's all good, what about what you feel, like physically feel, two things?"
His mom always called this sensory charades, but it used to work when things got overwhelming for him or his sister.
"I feel your hand, and.... And the floor. It's cool and feels nice," she muttered, her forest green hues meeting his.
"Thank you..."
@hellfirejeff
He smiled gently, his deep brown eyes meeting hers, "Any time," he squeezed her hand softly, "Feeling a little more level?"

"Yeah okay. Can you...." She felt bad about it, but she reached for his hand, her fingers trembling.
"I feel so stupid for this. I know it's all in my head but...." She didn't know how to put what she was feeling into words at the moment.
@hellfirejeff
He held her hand, "I've got you, okay? Tell me three things you hear right now?"
He knew some tricks to help, his older sister had really bad panic attacks when they were younger and he'd learned ways to help her calm her brain.

"Just a drink is fine. Thank you for being so sweet."
When he was gone, safe started feeling like the room was closing in. She supposed that had to do with her anxiousness. Curling up, safe laid on the floor, the woodgrain cool against her face.
@hellfirejeff
He moved quickly, grabbing drinks and a snack for himself that he could share if she changed her mind, coming back to her on the floor.
"Oh, definitely been there."
He set the things down on the nightstand and laid down on the floor with her, "Spinny or panic?"
"Panic," she muttered, barely opening her eyes to look at him.
"I take it back. I don't know why people like this and I never, ever want to do it again. t least not if it's like this," she breathed.
@hellfirejeff
He nodded and laid with her, speaking softly, "Sometimes when you get high, it makes the anxiety better, but there's this weird window where it can make it so much worse, but I promise, it's not going to last and we can stay right here until it passes, yeah?"

"I'm high though, not blind. You are cute. You smell good too." Her hand came up to her mouth as if to stop her from talking.
@hellfirejeff
He chuckled softly, "My mom buys good soap." He stood slowly, stretching a little, "I'm going to go get you something non alcoholic to drink. Want anything else too? Not sure if you're oh my God feed me high or oh my God if I see food I'll die, high, but either way can switch on a dime."

"Well I do both really," she hummed, picking at the chipping paint on her nails. She still felt a little sick, but she was trying to ignore it.
"They throw me around and sometimes I do flips while they do that," she grinned. "That's sweet of you to say. You're pretty damn cute yourself."
@hellfirejeff

"With girls around like Chrissy Cunningham and Victoria Mellows, I don't think I'm going to be the first one on anyone's mind," she replied.
@hellfirejeff
He shook his head, "Oh, trust me, you'll be noticed, you're one of the prettiest girls I've ever seen so," He quickly tried to change the subject. "Are you like, one of the ones they throw around or one of the ones that does flips?"

"Just talk to me. It's okay. What are some things you like doing?" She questioned, trying hard to focus on him and not everything else in the room.
"I like reading, hiking. Uhhhh I just joined cheer..." She muttered, trying not to make him feel awkward by going first.

He nodded, "What do you like to read? I read a lot of comics and like fantasy novels. And that's awesome that your going to be a cheerleader, you're going to have all the boys chasing you." He chuckled.

If she hadn't been so nervous, Claire probably would have laughed at that.
"In other words, I might not be able to keep my thoughts as thoughts?" She asked, hoping that wasn't necessarily true. She had a lot she kept internal.
"What was your name? I've seen you at school, but I don't think we really officially met until I was an idiot a few minutes ago," she sighed, feeling off still. It was like her movements were lagging, but her mind was moving too fast.
@hellfirejeff
Jeff was sweet but not always bright, "Oh, Shit, yeah, I'm Jeff and trust me, I'm the idiot here. Like literally had one job and I get a pretty stranger messed up by accident."
He looked around the room for something to help distract her while she started to feel the high come on. "Um, I can't say I know your name, I've seen you around but I kinda keep my head down at school. Years of being an easy target."
"Clarissa, but I like Claire. Only my mom calls me Clarissa," she hummed, her speech just a little slower than before, though her southern lilt was stronger in her voice.
Laughter spilled from her lips at how she sounded to her own lips.
"Oh ...I get why people have a good time with this, but I....I don't know if I like it," she mused.
@hellfirejeff
He whisper repeated her name and nodded.
"I promise, you'll be okay." He smiled, "Maybe we can play a game or something? Distract you from just feeling high?"
He got up and looked for something the could do.

Claire waited, not daring to move. She didn't want to lose the only person that knew what was going on with her.
As he came back though, she was already starting to feel a bit heady, and maybe even a bit sick, but her emerald hues went to him, trusting him to help her.
"Uh ...what's it like?" She asked, following him to the guest room. "Just so I know what to expect."
@hellfirejeff
Pretty sure half the party could hear Eddie laugh and call Jeff a dumbass as he came back to check on her and help her out of the crowd.
He carefully steered her to sit on the bed, "Well, it kind of varies for everyone and depending on which weed the madman baked into this batch but, kinda lightheaded and floaty, but also maybe a little hyper and wanting to do all the things?"
He settled cross-legged on the floor, "He got me so high one time, I spent the entire night explaining how Romeo and Juliet is a commentary on how masculine fragility is the root of social destruction. Eddie gets good shit."
