Tea within the Mayflowers

Spring is blooming here in Australia and it’s last days have nearly come and gone. Seeing this gorgeous May-bush in full bloom for the first time was a little surprising, as most of the year it has no flowers or petals at all. I have never seen so many tiny little white petals everywhere, it felt like white confetti all over the place or tiny little snow flakes which have fallen and covered the entire plant.

Winter Days - The Old Milking Bails

A selection of photographs taken this past month while I have been taking some time off visiting the family farm. This particular afternoon was filled with lovely sunlight and a surprise hello from a few horse friends. They are the neighbours horses, who like to visit our paddock for a while, eating and keeping the grass down.

You may not be able to really see from these few photos but they are not really taken care for very well. Their bodies are covered in tiny lumps and their skin appears discoloured and marked. There also have quite a lot of fleas, every-time I watched them in the paddock they were itching some part of their body against the trees or fence poles. This made me feel uncomfortably sad, hearing the scratching sound of their skin being pushed back and forth against some sort of hard surface over and over again. They were however very alert and responsive towards us, the white horse in particular was very interested in following us around. From what I remember she was the only female horse, and was constantly trying to smell and take a bite out of the flowers I gathered.

These photographs were mostly taken inside and around the bails, an old structure which previously was a milking bails and creamery. It would have once operated when there were cattle on the property, I am interested in finding out more about the history and stories behind this. On a side note as it is currently winter here and this location is slightly more north/east than I am use to, the days have been feeling shorter and the sun seems to come and go before I realise. As I am always chasing sunlight, I was particularly drawn to the afternoon light in the bales and the way the sunshine glows through the doorway and the wooden panelling. (on another note - please excuse my poor writing - I will try not to leave this space so neglected). x

By The Sea

Faded and endless imagery by the sea, there is something about the sea-side which has always captivated me. I love being able to look out onto the wide horizon and see the faded blues and greys stretched out endlessly into the sea. Perhaps it is the calming quality and the overall atmosphere the water has, all I know is that I have always been drawn to the ocean. Here is a recent collection of photographs taken at some at my favourite sea-side locations around Sydney. Viewing the water from a far to notice the subtle patterns in the waves, the beautiful weathered rocks, the cliff-sides and the intricate way the water flows around the rock pools.
