I just wish I hadn’t been so fraught when Bean wasn’t super into nursing. I pumped for her and she had formula and it was fine and she is a beautiful and sparkling little girl and I know we are deeply bonded but I feel that I just set so high of expectations for myself and it made it hard to really enjoy her for the baby she was at the time.
Baby V has helped me heal from that in so many ways and seeing them together is such a gift!
We have made it to 6 months of exclusive nursing and I said to the doctor that Baby V has had a bottle a handful of times she said it may turn out that she’ll never need to rely on a bottle at all which is weird! She’s basically big enough that she can start using a sippy cup or straw cup. She is so efficient that feeding takes maybe 15 minutes tops.
I just can’t believe how vastly different this experience has been for us. Not having to pump and deal with all the stuff associated with that has made a difference. I’m not super into the crunchy thing, but I am attached to her all the time pretty much by default! I don’t baby wear, but she is never more than a few feet away from me at any time, and I am the only person who feeds her and I’ve found that I really quite enjoy it.
I still can’t believe that everything is just so different now. Baby V was born just about 4 months ago. I was pregnant 4 months ago and now it has all changed and it’s hard for me to process. So I truly do apologize. Everything was so simple.
@the-brodie-set oh I do apologize. I was seeing it from the perspective of the “birth plan”, not the pregnancy itself. I think a birth plan is a very specific thing-the image of the birthing ball brought to mind KERF and her elaborate birth plans.
Everything is terrible though, so I am sorry and I do not mean to minimize anyone’s experiences.
Pregnant friends please know I’m thinking of you and I do hope all goes well. I know someone who just had a baby last week. A ten lb vaginal birth. Her husband was there and all was well. It will be ok. Hopefully by the time you deliver, it will be better.

I mean, it is entirely ok to be upset that your birth didn’t work out the way you wanted, but, it’s not really the same as a stable pay check.
Unless this is referring to the possibility that your birthing partner may not be allowed, which is indeed terrible! But still!
I just hate the myth that births can be planned. They can’t. Your baby does not know or care what you want. First gift of parenting: it’s beyond your control.
Yes, you can have preferences, and they can all go out the window in seconds!

I have definitely been grieving little parts of this pregnancy right now but wouldn’t pretend it’s the same as most of those other things on there!!
My anatomy/20 week scan is coming up and they won’t let anyone come with me, which was unsurprising in this time but also sucks. So I’m trying to figure out the best way to still find out the gender together (maybe have Brian on the phone or a video call, or they write it down and we open it together at home??). And honestly I was looking forward to being pregnant at work. People are so nice! Maternity outfits are cute! And like my last pregnancy, I’d have the last (most miserable) month or two at home anyway because of summer, so school would have been the best/cutest time. All of this is extremely shallow of course, but not untrue, for me at least. 🤷🏻♀️ It’s weird to think that depending on how long this goes, basically no one outside of my husband and kid will see me pregnant!
But I’ve been forcing myself to see upsides of it every time I think of downsides. Extra time spent with my family is nice, especially before we add another person to the mix. There are lots of things like that I’m doing my best to focus on.
I get this entirely! There are definitely lots of things to grieve. I feel the same way. I felt very cute pregnant and I liked wearing maternity clothes and everyone was so nice and I’m very lucky that I got to enjoy it fully.
We found out the sex when I was maybe 9 weeks because of the blood test so the anatomy scan was reassuring but uneventful. Which is a good thing! I’m glad Brian was there of course. I’m most glad he was there to take me to the hospital though. He said he felt like he barely did anything at all and I was like well yeah because I did all the labor at home but getting me there was super important! I wasn’t alone at home (even though he was sleeping through most of it but that’s because I told him to). Having him for that last hour was essential. Anyway I’m still glad he was in the room with me even though it was less than 20 minutes. I wasn’t alone with 14 strangers. Now I wonder what they’re doing. I doubt I would have had that crowd now. I wish you the best!!

I also got this tummy time pillow for Baby V and it is super cute! I realize now that any kind of pillow is going to be useful for a long time. Bean still likes our big Boppy pillow, so I figured why not get another. I love those Boppy products. This was only $14.95.

So I got this for Baby V to take to the sitter (if she ever goes back there) and we are meanwhile using it at home and it’s so great!
We have the big SkipHop Baby Gym (we call it the cloud; it’s the weather themed one), but it’s kind of unwieldy in our small space. Back when it was just Bean, it was fine, but since Bean is everywhere and we have a much more cramped space with all the other stuff, it’s just more to set up. I do love the Cloud still and we still take the bottom half to therapy for Baby V( we also took it for Bean), so it was quite useful. Bean still likes it, so it’s not like it was a wasteful purchase (it was actually a registry item gift from Best Friend)....but!
As a second time parent, the Fisher Price little portable gym is so cute and useful. Baby V really likes it. She grabs the sides of it and swipes at the toys and keeps herself quite entertained with it! And Bean likes it too. She likes to lay in it next to V and she plays with the toys and shows them to her. So it can last through the early baby months and provide more entertainment for older siblings.
PLUS, it is SUPER portable. It just folds right up into a shape that can pretty much fit into a (large) diaper bag and it’s super light. AND the price is right. Those big baby gyms can be quite pricey. Of course they are fancier with more accessories, but this one was $26.78! Anyway, that’s my baby product recommendation for the day.
Bean has decided she wants to scream at me because I took a container of lotion from her, but when I tried to give it back, she said no, and then she screamed at me that she was hungry, but when I tried to give her food, she said no, and she keeps hanging on me and I wish she would stop yelling!
Well she stopped yelling and now she’s hugging me and laughing and smiling. What a silly girl!
@perfectlywhelmed yes exactly! She has a lot of feelings and while she has words, they’re still not all there and I have to remember this when it gets frustrating. I feel snappish sometimes and it makes me feel bad becasue I know she’s trying! It’s hard when it’s just me and also V, who is easy, but she also needs snuggles and attention.
Ugh it’s hard. I haven’t yelled-but I know I haven’t sounded as kind as I can and I just need to stop and remember that she is the one who needs me.

Got a three pack of nursing tops on Amazon and they’re quite comfortable and fairly easy to operate! I realzied I’ll probably need more short sleeved tops for the spring and summer other than my camis which are pretty worn out at this point but are good for layering. The camis were worn almost every day when I was pumping with Bean and I still wear them but I don’t feel comfortable wearing them out! I like as few restricting garments as possible. I think Baby V does too. I’m not very discreet and I don’t really care.

Baby V has been a poop machine today, which I realize is the state of every day for a lot of you here. And, she is rapidly outgrowing her diapers! I don’t think we’ll make it to the end of the week with the ones she has now. They’re size 1, but they are SNUG on her and they leave little marks on her legs because they’re so plump!
Baby V does the cutest things when nursing. She grabs on to the strap of my top and her little arms float above her head and sometimes she crosses her hands over each other. She often waves her hands around and it’s such an odd feeling because I feel her hands tickling under my arms. It’s like she’s settling in and getting comfortable. I’m very grateful I get to experience this with her. It’s hard and a big commitment!
