Haloti Ngata said he and the Ravens weren’t ‘close enough’ on what he thought he could get financially.Former Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata was picking up his son at school when the call came in from Head Coach John Harbaugh.In about a half-hour, he was going to be traded to the Lions.Ngata was drafted by the Ravens jerseys. Nicks was one of the league’s most exciting receivers in New York. That didn’t happen, but Nicks did prove he can still be fairly productive. Perhaps just as important, he played in all 16 games for the first time in his career.Shorts was perhaps the Jaguars’ top offensive weapon the past several years. He’s a small-school prospect out of Mount Union who the Ravens liked in the 2011 draft. Shorts went on to put up nearly 1,000 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in his sophomore season while playing with the Jaguars’ subpar quarterbacks. Moore fell out of favor in Oakland after putting up good numbers in his first three seasons. He had a huge season in 2013 with 65 grabs for 1,128 yards, but his stats regressed last year. He set a career low in yards and tied a career low in catches, but set a career high in touchdowns. Smith can take the top off a defense, but he hasn’t made as many deep plays as he would like.Maclin has been a strong performer throughout his career. While he’s been banged up for some of his early days, he started all 16 games last year and had his best season in Eagles Head Coach Chip Kelly’s fast-paced offense. Maclin is a burner who also works the short and intermediate parts of the field well.Cobb is looking for a big contract after a breakout season. He’s a quick, elusive threat, especially out of the slot. But how much of Cobb’s production is a byproduct of playing with Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers? After drafting Wilfork in the first round of the 2004 draft, their 11-year stint together is over.Onlookers in Baltimore can’t help but think about how the Pats-Wilfork situation compares to the one between the Ravens and their long-time defensive tackle Haloti Ngata.“That situation sounds eerily similar to what could play out in Baltimore,” wrote CSNBaltimore.com’s Bo Smolka.Like Wilfork, Ngata was drafted by the Ravens Jerseys  in the first round (2006) and has played his entire career for one team. Young kids do get pregnant out there, and you need to face the issue sometimes."Were you able to catch "The Great Debaters" yet?"Yes, and I'll tell you what… I thought it was going to be this long, drawn-out movie that would end up dragging along, but Denzel [Washington] did it again. He's like three for three this year. There was this, ‘American Gangster' and ‘Déjà Vu,' and all of them were really great."You also had Forest Whitaker in the film, another Academy Award winner. It's really a knockout by both of them."How did this stack up against those other two you mentioned?"Well, this is a completely different type of movie, so I'm not going to compare them. That's two fives for Denzel this year."With Dennis Pitta’s status for 2015 up in the air, the Ravens want to add pieces to the TEs corps.The Ravens have some big questions at tight end heading into free agency and the draft, but team executives are prepared to answer them this offseason.After the Ravens brain trust spoke with media for an hour on Tuesday, it was clear improving the unit will be a priority, especially considering the offensive system is predicated upon tight-end success.“This is a tight end-friendly offense that we watched last year,” General Manager Ozzie Newsome said. “The better the tight ends we can get on the field, the better this offense will be and the better Joe [Flacco] will play.”The plan to bolster the unit will include the following steps:1) Attempt to re-sign veteran Owen Daniels.2) Maintain a wait-and-see approach with tight end Dennis Pitta. Develop young players already on the team.3) Add multiple tight ends through the draft and/or free agency.Pitta’s status for next year is up in the air after dislocating his hip in back-to-back years, and Daniels is an unrestricted free agent after his one season in Baltimore.  Head Coach John Harbaugh has spoken with Daniels, and they have mutual interest in retaining their relationship.“We’ve talked to Owen, and Owen says he wants to come back,” Harbaugh said. “I’m sure that he and his agent will talk about what’s best for them financially, and every other way, but he’s very interested in coming back here.”Newsome said he spoke with trainers about Pitta’s status this week, and their main message was that an answer on his availability won’t come until this summer.
