Yes, hello, I'm the Doctor. No, no, not that kind of Doctor, just the Doctor. Regardless, I'm still the man who makes people better. Although I have changed, in the end, I'm still me, still the Doctor. A different me, perhaps, different clothes, different face, but I will always be the Doctor. "Oi! Don’t mock at me mister! You did kept me around so you didn’t mind it that much." Rose pointed out softly nudging him with her arm. She knew he hadn’t ment it like that… Or at least she hoped so, she didn’t knew how this new him reacted on everything and if she was honest with herself he did had a point…

"Okay then…" She answered while thinking were they could best go. He probably wanted to try all sort of things so she could better take him to somewhere with a larger menu. When she got an idea she took his hand again and started to pull him along. "I know the perfect place they got a bit of everything really. It would suprise me if you didn’t like anything from their menu."

A tired smile pulled at his lips. "I suppose you are right, Rose Tyler. I didn't mind all that much. Ever since the very first day I took you by the hand and told you to run." He gave her hand a small squeeze. "Yes, I still remember that," he then added.

The Doctor's smile grew wider. "Never thought I'd ever say this, but, lead the way, Rose."

She jumped at his initial yell, but Clara remained determined to help him. He needed her right now. Gingerly, she helped him to his feet and led him through the winding corridors toward the TARDIS. Right, left, right, straight, left, left again, right…

She gave a relieved laugh as soon as she saw the familiar blue box. “Everything’s going to be fine,” she said, more of an assurance for herself.

Right now, Clara was experiencing her worst fear: losing her best friend and unlikely companion; ever since the Doctor had appeared at the Maitland’s front door, she had felt close to him, a bond that couldn’t be severed easily. And now, she was afraid that he didn’t have much longer with her.

The Doctor could already feel the lindos being produced in the very fibers of his entire being. He didn't want to change. Not again. Not ever again. He tried so hard to be brave. Brave for his Clara. But he couldn't quite keep the mask to cover the fear in his eyes in place.

Upon reaching the TARDIS, the Doctor lurched forward and clung to the door. He hesitated and let out a groan before unlocking it with a shaky hand. Even in this state, he insisted to be the one to open the blue box.

As soon as the door was open he very nearly collapsed inside, having grown even more weak after having to return to the TARDIS.

"Yeah, it's been twelve years since I last saw you." She pointed at him accusingly, then cupped his face with both of her hands. Remembering her Doctor being younger with wild hair and winking brown eyes. "What's happened with you? How long has it been for you?"

He gave a weak chuckle and a slight shake of his head. "You haven't changed a bit, have you, Martha Jones? It's been about three hundred years," he replied wearily, a small smile tugging at his lips. He looked far too worn for his own good.

His eyes were squeezed shut, face contorted in pain. He wasn’t entirely certain at what had happened, but this was certainly most definitely very /not good/. When Clara dropped to his side he pried his eyes open to look at her, the slightest bit of fear and even sadness reflected in his pale green eyes.

"Clara," he practically grunted, finding his voice already starting to fail him. "I’m dying."

Denial. That was the first stage, from what she remembered of the grieving process after my Mum died.

Clara shook her head, trying hard not to believe what he was saying. “No,” she whispered. “You can’t die. You’re not supposed to die. I — I could still save you. Get you back to the TARDIS.” It was a childish sort of hope; she had seen all of his different faces. He still survived, he was a survivor. But this was different. This was her Doctor, not one of his faces that she’d only seen in his time stream. It was different this time.

He swallowed thickly, his breathing ragged and slow, each breath becoming harder and more painful. "Help me back to the TARDIS," he managed to say. "Help me up. It'll be... hnnng... /safer/ there."

He lifted a weak arm, searching for her shoulder for a moment before finding. He used to leverage to sit himself up, yelling out in pain and immediately regretting it. But he was determined now. He slowly forced himself upright and stumbled a few steps before finding his balance. He leaned on Clara for support as little as needed, since he didn't want her falling over as well.

Clara ran, faster than she ever had before. Countless lives running to save the Doctor had not prepared her for this moment. But she didn’t care. She had to save him, one last time. 

She saw him, floppy hair askew, and crooked bow tie, sprawled out on the ground. Was he hurt? She didn’t know for sure, and she didn’t want to think of what might happen if he was hurt. Instead, she knelt down next to him, grasping his hand tightly in her own. “Doctor,” she whispered. “Are you hurt? Doctor, please! Say something!”

  He had to admit her answer irritated him slightly. He had just underwent an extraneous process in which every single aspect of his body had changed violently, after being extremely near death, and when he asked her how it was all she said was okay?

A small sigh escaped his lips and he cocked his head slightly, looking at her curiously. “Okay?” He questioned, wanting more of a valid answer out of her.

Clara made a weary face when she saw the Doctor was disappointed. She just didn’t know what else to say. She was afraid that if she said something wrong, she would just fight with him for killing her chin boy, for not being him anymore and she didn’t want that. She just wanted to try and have the same relationship with the Doctor even though she knew that wasn’t going to happen.

"It’s a bit…" - she stopped. She wanted to say different, she wanted to say horrible, she wanted to say it’s a huge difference. "…you know" - Clara continued as she looked again at him.

He stared at her intently awaiting an answer, then, upon hearing it, shook his head and gestured in front of him to add emphasis to his words.

"No, no I don’t," he said rather quickly. "I haven’t seen it yet."

He turned on his heel to have his back to her and brought up a hand to run it through his hair, puffed out his cheek as he exhaled a sigh and suddenly wished that he kept mirrors in the console room.

"Well, I guess on any other day I would disapprove of you traveling via Vortex Manipulator. I do recall telling you how dirty tat sort of time traveling is, not good for the body at all, in excess, that is. But seeing you… I guess I can forgive you." He chuckled softly, offering her a pleasant smile and following alongside her.

This was all too surreal for him. Seeing her was both a miracle and a curse. She was one of the only people who he would never want to leave again, but never want to see again, because nothing lasts forever. No matter how hard he wanted to believe that, nothing lasts forever.

Only him and his little blue box is left at the end of it all.

Rose laughed as well, feeling glad that he wasn’t mad at her.  ”I know, I know! I remember everything you said about it… But we’re not all as lucky as you are to have a TARDIS! Besides I haven’t travelled that much with it yet… ” Also, she hadn’t noticed anything bad from travelling with one… Yet.

She was still standing still unsure of what to do or where to go. He had changed… How could she know what he liked doing or eating now? Nervously, she started playing with a lock of her blond hair. “Uhm… Doctor… What would you like to do… Because you changed… I have no idea what you like now.”

"I'm glad you remember. You were always such a good listener, Rose Tyler," he replied, mostly jokingly and with a slight eyeroll. He didn't think he'd have to actually bring up all the times that her mucking things up got them in trouble. But they always got out okay in the end, right?

"Ehh, to be honest I don't know what I like now either," he answered with a small, sheepish shrug. "I haven't been in this regeneration long enough to really take it out for a good... erm... test drive. I'll let you do the deciding this time, hm?"

Of all people the Doctor could have run in to after so long, Martha was certainly on the more least-expected end of the scale. He wasn’t sure how she would react, but whatever the outcome, he decided to approach the situation as tactful as possible.

"Hello, Martha. I’m the Doctor."

Martha looked him over with a note of surprise, then raised a brow. “Really? Sorry, mate, but you’re going to have to earn that title with me.” There was a smile tagged onto the end of her sentence, a well humored one. As if she was sharing an inside joke. Then she pulled him down into a hug, “It’s been a very long time, Mister.”

He was a might bit surprised at the suddenness of the embrace but, once recovered, returned the hug wholeheartedly and chuckled softly. "Ah, too long. Much too long." He pulled away and held her out at arm's length, giving her a look over with a broad grin. "So, how has the great Martha Jones been since I last dropped by? I do believe I must have missed a lot."

Clara looked at his face again, but she just couldn’t say anything. What was she supposed to say? What did he expect her to say? That everything was going to be okay and that they were going to move on with their lives like nothing happened, like the Doctor was looking really close to his age now. She smiled for herself when she thought that. Clara just looked at him and saw that he was waiting an answer.

"It’s…" - she started, but really didn’t know how to continue it. She asked herself again what was she supposed to say? She didn’t want to piss him off. "…okay" - she finally ended, her lips trying to curve into a smile.

"Twelve hundred…." Rose replied swallowing hard. That definantly had been a lot longer then since she saw him. He probably had moved on about her a long time ago. A smile appeared on her face when she felt him squeeze back in her hand and she stopped near a few cafes, a bit unsure which one to go into.

"Yes… I’ve been there…" She agreed letting out a soft sigh. "It was an accident really… I missed travelling… I…. I sort of borrowed a vortex manipulator." Rose knew he wouldn’t approve of that. He had told Jack more then once how he tought about them. ‘Stuff happend between me and John… He has the TARDIS… Not that that’s important…" Ofcourse it was important but if he heard what happend between them he wouldn’t be happy. "I just wanted to take a little trip to another planet but instead I ended up here… That’s not good is it?"

Clara looked at him again and most likely he didn’t look alright. Not to her. He was not her Doctor anymore, not the chin boy anymore. But she had to get used to it. She did with the others, so why was this one supposed to be a problem? She just shrugged and looked at him pacing around, but she couldn’t just ask all the questions she wanted.

Clara was just happy that he was okay and she guessed she will just get used to him. “I don’t know" - she said, still being confused, the confusion could be heard in her voice.

"How’s the face? Seems all right from the inside." He scrunched up his nose, then opened and closed his jaw experimentally before running his tongue over his new teeth a few times. "Nice action, responsive." He puckered his lips, then pursed them before smacking them and looking up at his brow, furrowing it and relaxing it a few times.

By now he was curious as to what he looked like. He knew what his limbs and torso looked like, that he was sure of, but he was curious about his face now. He brought a hand up to feel along his jawline before his fingers came to rest on his chin, stroking it. "Bit less heft on the chin. How is it?"

"Twice already? Do I want to know how much time has passed since you last saw me?" Rose asked while she started to walk, assuming he would follow her. “It’s only been a few years for me… " She didn’t want to admit that she actually knew exactly how long it had been since she last saw him. Out of habit her hand searched for his and she gave a gentle squeeze in it.

"Well… It’s been long since I last been here… But I think you know that as well." The last time had been with him, before they had gone to Canary Wharf and the whole battle had started. She had been here afterwards one more time when she had been searching for him after building the dimension canon but she hadn’t had a lot of time back then. “I think it’s safe to say that I still attract trouble."

"Er, 'bout three hundred years, give or take. I'm over twelve hundred years old now, so, that's different. Very different, indeed," he replied as he followed after her, finding it strange that she was leading him. It didn't matter that much, though. He was too pleased with the catching up that was happened. He glanced down at his hand when she took it, a smile coming to his face, and he squeezed back gently, to reciprocate. He always felt so much younger around Rose.

"I imagine so. You've been-" He swallowed thickly. "You've been off in Pete's World, have you not? How the bloody hell did you manage to get /here/?" He asked, an incredulous look on his face. He then chuckled softly at her next comment. "No arguments there. I remember many a time where I had to go off saving /you/."

Clara frowned as he was talking. She saw the character of the Doctor behind that old face, but she just couldn’t say anything related to it. Apparently he was still the Doctor and she couldn’t do anything to turn back time so that this couldn’t happen. She looked at the console. Maybe she could do it, but then she realized this was a fixed time and this is the Doctor, he is not dead. 

Clara looked back at him and raised an eyebrow. “Are you alright?" - she said, her voice being half ironic. She just couldn’t talk to him like she did with her Doctor. It was impossible, because he was not and she had never seen this before so it was new to her. Clara saw all the faces of the Doctor, but she never witnessed the process.

The Doctor seemed to be completely oblivious to Clara presence, besides the fact that she was talking. Her mouth was moving and words were coming out, but he didn't see it, he didn't register it, he only heard it.

"I don’t know," he answered, still marveling at his new body. It always took some getting used to. He strode around the TARDIS a bit, walking circles around the console, getting used to his new legs. He turned to face her and asked, "Do I look all right?"

"Yeah, my Doctor" Clara looked for a second at the man and then she just stood up quickly and went near him. She took a look at his face and raised an eyebrow. “French" - she said with a nod, but he was still not his Doctor. Yeah, he may be the Doctor, but not her chin boy. 

For a second she just stayed there waiting for him to say waiting, thinking that he might wait for her to say something. She just frowned, but didn’t say a thing, because she didn’t know what she was supposed to say. She didn’t even know how to feel. He was okay, he didn’t die. Her chin boy died, because of her. When she remembered that she just looked down.

"I’ve deleted French!" He exclaimed, a perplexed look on his face. "Plus all cookery skills, and the breast stroke," He explained as he walked around in a small circle, still in awe at his new form, looking his hands and arms over again and moving each digit on it's own, then clenching and relaxing his fingers. He looked much like a baby first discovering it's hands.

He brushed past Clara, walking around the console, then suddenly stopped and turned on his heel to face her. "And hopping." He waved that off. "Never mind hopping, who needs to hop."

Then his hands flew to his lower back and his brow furrowed a slight bit more. "Ohh, the kidneys are interesting. Never had that before... interesting kidneys." He puffed out his chest more to get a better feel and attempted to turn his head around to look at his lower back, not that it was all that successful.

Clara closed her eyes when she saw the light, but when she wanted to get near the Doctor she couldn’t. The TARDIS was full of yellow light and the energy was so powerful that she threw Clara on the ground and she couldn’t get up. “Doctor!" - she yelled, hoping he will hear her. This was her wish right now: for the Doctor to hear her. 

She closed her eyes and tried not to think of the worst. The Doctor dead, because of her, because she couldn’t stay away from the Dalek, because she couldn’t keep her mouse shut. “Please, don’t die" - she muttered for herself as the light started to fade away. When she felt everything was over she opened her eyes, not moving from the corner where she was standing. 

Instead of her chin boy she saw someone else, someone older than her, someone who wasn’t the Doctor. But she knew she had seen this before. the Doctor changing faces. She remembered it, but she couldn’t control her words. “Bring my Doctor back"

"Your Doctor..?" He questioned, slightly surprised and rather distracted. He looked himself up and down and marveled for a moment at the changes before looking back at Clara. "I am the Doctor."

He then practically snapped to attention. "Right then, eyesight." His hands came to his face and he felt the new face, hesitating over the eyes. "Not bad, bit blue." His fingers moved to his ears before cupping them and memorizing the new feel. "Ears... not pointy, right way up, more or less level." His hands then traveled back to his face, mapping out the new features. "Face... well I’ve got one. Oh, no, French!"
