Thank you “Stranger Things” for reminding me what a fantastic song this is.
Living in this song now is what I want to do.
Ridiculously stuck on this rendering of Elvis’s “Suspicious Minds” Esp when they slow down and lean wayyyyy in.
I’ve relaunched my personal essay music column. Terrifying. Glorious.
Full essay lives here: http://therumpus.net/2015/12/diamonds-rust-3-lets-revel-in-this-messy-splendor/
“Does this make sense? Does it matter anyway? Is this coincidence or is it meant to be ....”
“OUR LOVE IS LIKE A LONG GOODBYE.”
I’m seeing so many girls getting into Bikini Kill for the first time and it’s really resonating with them, which is strange because this music’s so old you’d think that the ideas wouldn’t be relevant to them anymore. But sadly, sexism is just relevant as it ever was.

Sometimes I still pinch myself b/c I’ve had the opportunity to interview Kathleen Hanna. She was incredible to speak with & you can still read the result right here: http://therumpus.net/2014/01/the-rumpus-interview-with-kathleen-hanna/
Patrick Joust
On the clock, Patrick Joust, 36, is a librarian. Off the clock, he’s a self-taught photographer with a fascination of Baltimore at night.

I can’t take how good this guy is……
Me too me too
Reminds me of Stephen Shore except at nighttime
I was in my thrifting zone at Goodwill last week -- it’s really one of my most meditative states -- when this song played & resonated to my core after years of not hearing it. I couldn’t even remember who it was. Last night I Googled the chorus “Stay with Me” to realize it was the radness of Shakespear’s Sister. I’d forgotten how amazing the video was too.
Sometimes your gal starts first grade and hip hop dance class and you have deadlines and shows to produce and a house that needs a deep cleaning but all you want to do is just put this badass record in the stereo and turn it up really loudly. Or wait, maybe that’s just me. God this album. So. Damn. Fine.
FINALLY COMES THE MOON, FINALLY COMES THE MOON
I have a dire need to perform this song. Who’s going to duet with me pretty please?
“All the boys on ships that sail / And the mate was Madeleine Mary / When her eyes did fill with tears / it was extraordinary”

“Don’t want no pork chops & greens, just give me gin instead.” - I’ve loved Nina Simone performing “Gin House Blues” but just came across this live rendering from Montreux Jazz Fest and zomg it’s phenomenal and perhaps just what your Monday needs?
I heard her singing “truck stop strangers and hot rod angels” and I’ll just pretend that’s what she’s singing ... love the Emmylou rendering of Bruce Springsteen’s “Racing in the Street.” Warning this live clip audio is pretty wobbly.
