I’m an oddity of one, my strangeness too complicated to explain or share.
Libba Bray, A Great and Terrible Beauty (via wordsnquotes)
It goes on
He remembers everything.
The crippling pain of broken bones and damaged organs, dry mouth tasting of iron. The defiance that often danced like the devil on the tip of his tongue now drowns in blood, and he knows it is over.
Except it is not, is it?
Thoughts drift on, despite the numbness that has already started to take over. Usually, he recalls, giving in was easier; however proud he could be, his wit never failed him, and every single time it was more than clear that it was over. Just like now. But his mind goes on, travels through blurred memories and leaves them behind, only to meet a single question: is he still alive? The battle on the gates already came to an end, but the war keeps on raging. Is he defending the inner circles? Or would he be on a mission? Still in Cocytus, perhaps?
He will never know – even if he tries and reaches for whatever trace of him he can grasp, only to laugh at his own failure, grimacing as every muscle in his body seems to disagree with the action. He will never know, but still he can hope – ah, such irony – that the claws of the harpy will lacerate as many filthy dogs as possible. Somewhere in his mind, Valentine stands triumphant over a pile of corpses, and he appreciates the image.
(It is not, however, the one he clings to as his consciousness begins to fade.)
The taste of chocolate, the usual pace of his heartbeat. Pink over ivory, a heart so light not even him could taint it. He feels cold, and even that reminds him of Valentine. And for the first time, the idea that there will be a new cycle speaks of something other than revenge.
They will meet again. And he will remember everything.
Summer feels unbearably hot; there is no possible way to stay inside – though he would argue there is no possible way to live, if not immersed in fresh water. Since that is not an option, however, he drags himself to the backyard, seeking the shade provided by the single sycamore tree in the area. Even the occasional breeze feels hot against his skin, and he curses under his breath, runs his hand through long hair to tie it up in a bun.
A bird lands on a branch and chirps, turning its head in what seems almost like curiosity. Sitting on the ground, back against the tree, he looks up, gaze meeting the lark above.
Another chirp.
The song he hums is not like anything he has ever heard. It comes from deep inside his chest, not his mind, and flows as easily as if he had known it since forever.
A shiver runs down his spine, albeit the weather. There is a gust of fresh air, but as soon as the bird flies away, it is over – and the song is gone with it.
(In its place, however, his chest remains as if empty.)
“I should have said goodbye.”
The words are muttered against his ear, a whisper of a story that belongs to them and no one else. None of them dares to let go; surplices certainly are not meant for embraces, but they are stubborn enough to ignore how uncomfortable it feels. If anything, they are more than used to, even if their bodies are now barely adjusted to their old cages, muscle and bone still sore under their weight. Everything is new, everything is the same.
Arms still passing over Valentine’s shoulders, he puts some space between them, just enough so he can look him in the eyes, study his features. He wonders if they really look the same, of if his mind is simply connecting memories and concepts to what he sees now. It is the first time he thinks about it.
“Why say goodbye, bird?” He asks, and his voice is warm and low, music even when there is no melody. “Save that for someone you won’t be meeting ever again.”
One could say there is no happy ending to that. The point, however, is that, for better or worse, there is no ending at all.

◎ so do you hate Orpheus? Or are you simply envious?
send a ◎ and a question and my muse must answer, even if it’s a secret.
“So simple-minded, aren’t you? No, I don’t envy Orpheus. And I barely care enough to hate him. If I had to choose a word, I believe despise would be a better way to describe. Would I love to get rid of him? Of course. But hate is far to passionate for me, I don’t work with that.”
Artists are prisoners of there own creations.

◎ did you ever wish for something you couldn't have?
send a ◎ and a question and my muse must answer, even if it’s a secret.
“Well, who didn’t?”
◎ what other kind of music do you appreciate? Or other musicians, at least?
send a ◎ and a question and my muse must answer, even if it’s a secret.
“It’s hard to tell, honestly. You see, for me, it’s not about a certain style, but the performance. That said... Street musicians usually add something quite refreshing to their performances. Perhaps it’s some sort of passion, perhaps it’s just the need that moves them. Either way, it often works.”
◎ how did you feel when you lost Hades' favor?
send a ◎ and a question and my muse must answer, even if it’s a secret.
“Outraged, of course. Offended. Disappointed. And yet… Well, I cannot blame my Lord, however resentful I might be. I have served him for so long, it is no surprise that his ears craved for something new. Also…” The Sphinx narrows his eyes only slightly, and the sight is somewhat akin of a feline ready to attack its prey. “Tragedy often adds to art. My Lord is particularly touched by the pain only a human heart can bear, and that, my curious friend… I cannot possibly beat the other musician at that.”
“…”
Ugly face.
“…Saints have either extremely odd tastes, or they just pretend not to appreciate beauty, uh.”
“Not that I care, bird. As long as those who really matter can appreciate it, it’s alright.”
❝ What look, gramps? As if anyone would even look at your ugly face for so long! ‘Sides you smell like a mummy which makes having this conversation with you a thousand times more disgusting! Don’t you have anything to do other than pissing me off? ❞ Because Seiya definitely would rather be beaten to death than having ‘THE TALK’ with the Sphinx. He was an orphan, and there were not many people he would go to have a lecture about sex… But too much is too much!
"Oh, boy... You are so stupid it’s actually amusing!” The Specter made no effort whatsoever to hold back the laughter, to the point of needing a moment to catch his breath. “You try to taunt me, and now that I’m not offended as you expected me to be, you accuse me of pissing you off? Oh, please.” If Pharaoh’s words and tone weren’t enough to emphasize the impression Pegasus left on him, then the way he rolled his eyes would certainly make up for it.
“I could actually waste some time letting you know what my lovers say about my features, my smell and even taste, but... I won’t hurt your sensitive, innocent ears today, mh? Now do us both a favor and disappear.”
◎ So you have always been a lonely person?
send a ◎ and a question and my muse must answer, even if it’s a secret.
“I wouldn’t say lonely, no. Loner sounds more like it.”
◎ Favorite people on the Underworld? If you have any, that is...
send a ◎ and a question and my muse must answer, even if it’s a secret.
“Well, that’s easy enough. Lord Hades is, of course, above all else. We’re all his to command, after all, and I, my dear, I serve with love. Now, Lady Pandora, who actually allowed me to tutor her in the ways of the harp. A truly remarkable creature, my lady… And I can’t possibly forget about Lord Minos’. Those who favor me in one way or another certainly deserve my appreciation.”
There is a pause, then; even if only for a moment, the Sphinx seems somewhat thoughtful, introspective even.
“I guess I should also mention a little bird who earned my affection for reasons that are… beside the point.”
◎ Do you miss someone from your human family? Any close friend left behind?
send a ◎ and a question and my muse must answer, even if it’s a secret.
“Not really, no. I’ve always been my closest friend... Which actually made things quite easier, when the time came.”
@hellsbard
Seiya is not at all amused by that commentary.
“Oh, don’t give me that look, child. If you’re lucky, you might actually live long enough to understand what I’m talking about. And by lucky, I mean smart enough to keep your mouth shut, mh? So...” A well manicured finger gently rests against the Sphinx’s lips. “Shhh.”
◎ You always seem so confident. Aren't you scared of anything?
send a ◎ and a question and my muse must answer, even if it’s a secret.
“Oh, please. Everybody is afraid of something, the question is whether they are willing to acknowledge it. Now, if you know exactly what is it that scares you, being confident is way easier.”
❝ They can have sex, but this one's not getting any. Look at his ugly face! ❞
“… You’ll get to talk about sex once you’re old enough to drop the diapers, brat. Until then, leave this talk to grown ups, will you? Good.”
◎ Can Specters still have sex?
send a ◎ and a question and my muse must answer, even if it’s a secret.
“Oh, please. The Underworld can be terribly dull at times... I can’t even begin to imagine how it would be if we couldn’t even indulge in a little fun!”
