Stevie Wonder shocked the hell out of his fans during his recent performance at Londonās āBritish Summer Time Festival,ā where the audience was 65,000 strong.
Stevieās never one to ignore injustices, y'all know Stevieās been standing up for equal rights since the early 70ās, even famously getting arrested in his a full length fur in a 1985 anti-apartheid protest where he proudly proclaimed he was a āconscientious criminal.ā
So itās only right that Stevie has now boldly spoken out about the Black Lives Matter movement and the countless murders of African Americans at the hands of police. That brings us to the fearlessĀ truths he was speaking in London, a truth that some, but not all, of his predominately White audience were not quiteĀ prepared to hear.
As he narrated through songs from his 1976 album, āSongs In The Key of Life,ā Stevie sadly pointed out how the societal problems he sang about on that album still exist today.
Stevie said: āThe songs and the words that we talk about, those conditions still exist in the world and that hurts my heart.ā
BUT THIS IS WHEN IT GOT REALLY REAL AND SOME OF STEVIEāS AUDIENCE WERE SHOCKEDā¦
āYes, all life does matterā¦ā [the crowd loudly applauds, thinking that was the only point Stevie was makingā¦then it slightly faded after he continued] āBUT the reason that I say BLACK LIVES matter is because WE are the original people of this world. So in essence, everybody in here, really, you got some Black in you. Youāve all got some soul in you, so stop denying your culture.ā [Crowd initially seems shocked, but some still clapā¦because they understood Stevie was simply speaking truth and not coming from a hateful standpoint]
AFTER SENSING SOME OF THE AUDIENCEāS DISAPPROVAL, STEVIE GOT EVEN MORE DIRECT:
āAnd for those of you who donāt agree with me, I love you but I donāt give a f___.ā [crowd applauds..some of them]
Stevie also urged fans to demand their politicians to:
āCut the bullsh*t and fix it! [ā¦] We were all made in Godās image. When you hate someone, youāre hating that image. If Iām blind and I can see it, you can see it too.ā
Daaaaamn! Stevieās telling it like it like it T-I-Is and thatās why we love him!
