callie real asf because if someone told me i was just like my mother i would also push them down the stairs to their death
this is actually HILARIOUS because both domestic rabbits and domestic cats practice dominance-related social grooming but for wildly different reasons.
if you're a rabbit, the boss rabbit is the one who gets groomed by its subordinate rabbits.
but if you're a cat... the boss cat is the one that grooms the other cats.
BOTH these idiots are going "aw yeah, it's good to be on top >:) "
This is so

This thread under the post is the funniest thing I've seen today
woke up thinking about this image from S2 and that fuckass yellow filter in S3. chat, is this anything?
that filter seemed so fucking weird, and everything about the "extremely chill soccer camp that now has houses and animals" seemed weird and then NOTHING HAPPENED unless they're going to expand more on Shauna's "we had fun right???" (and I don't think they would bc it would involve retreading old ground?) idk man but this FEELS like it should have Been Something, 100%
I Love Starfleet Academy
Obviously, Starfleet Academy is still early in its run, but despite the oftentimes disingenuous discourse that's blaming it for killing Star Trek as a franchise, I've enjoyed most of its first season so far (up to episode 4), which already puts it ahead of virtually every other series in the history of the show. (I've been saying that Lower Decks has easily been my favorite of the streaming era, but even that series took me longer to fully embrace than I have with SFA.) The only real dud for me has been episode 2, but on the whole, I've either had a great time laughing at the goofy teenage hijinks of the cadets or been genuinely moved to tears by the story of the odd-duck Klingon, Jay-Den Kraag. (Light spoilers ahead up to episode 4.)
Ignoring the grifterverse complaints (which seem to amount to little "look there's a black woman onscreen isn't that funny" -- see Jessie Gender's excellent video on this topic if you have 70 minutes and enough emotional reserves to wade into the swamp of idiot takes from idiot fascists), what some of the good-faith criticisms have centered on are its bias towards institutionalism (i.e. SFA isn't radical enough) and its focus on teenagers, with special attention on the dialogue.
The first point -- the bias towards institutionalism -- is the most trenchant, and is put forth by Second Wind here. Its argument is that throughout Trek's run, Starfleet has been a stand-in for the US (pretty inarguable), and the streaming-era shows reflect the failure of existing political institutions to prevent the rise of Trumpism. SFA specifically dramatizes this institutional failure in its first episode, where Nahla Ake sentences a single mom to prison, thus separating her from her young son, Caleb, now effectively an orphan. Ake quits Starfleet after Caleb immediately escapes custody; fast-forward 15 years, and Ake decides to return to Starfleet in an attempt to redress her past mistakes.
Second Wind argues that this very attempt to fix Starfleet, rather than replace it, amounts to the Democratic spinelessness in the face of fascism, that the system isn't irrevocably broken, and that if we just weather the storm, the system will correct itself (never mind the suffering inflicted in the meanwhile). I don't disagree, but I also don't have much faith in Star Trek as a corporate product to ever advocate for the wholesale abolition of a system of governance and economy that produced it; in this light, Starfleet will always be reconstituted, not replaced. That said, we are possibly seeing a different flavor of Starfleet -- episodes 2 and 4 both culminate with actual policy decisions being made or influenced by the cadets (which doesn't make too much in-universe sense, but I'm putting a pin in this for now), and maybe the argument SFA is putting forth is that effective change will be driven by the new guard and not the entrenched power structure. After only 4 episodes, it's too soon to say one way or the other, which is another reason why I questioned the Second Wind video.
(I have another theory about the "SFA = death of Trek" bandwagon: a perfect storm of circumstances -- the ascendancy of American fascism, and the algorithmic rewarding of outrage and right-wing grifter content -- has made SFA dog-piling lucrative, which is why even good-faith creators are ready to put the final nail in the Trek coffin after 3 episodes (which was when the Second Wind video game out). A simple "starfleet academy" search on Youtube will give you a greatest hits of the worst grifters before you see any results to the left of Nazism.)
The second point -- the YA tone of the show -- is a little more complicated, and leads me to put forth a reader response theory. In any work of fiction -- especially speculative fiction -- the audience negotiates with the text over where to draw the line for suspending their disbelief, i.e. how much latitude they will give certain plot elements or storytelling techniques before they stop enjoying the work. If the text has excellent dialogue or psychologically rich characters, maybe the audience will overlook plot holes or thin world-building; conversely, a lack of appealing elements will lead the audience to have less patience with the work. Obviously, the exact parameters that define that suspension of disbelief varies wildly from person to person (and even within a person, it'll change over time or between different texts -- e.g. I find TOS's production values hokey, but for various incarnations of Doctor Who, I actually find the cheap costumes and sets charming). For me, the humor on display in SFA (everything that Lura Thok has said, especially "shenan again") has bought a lot of wiggle room for me, and let's me ignore how unlikely an established organization like Starfleet is so open to letting teenagers dictate policy.
DS9 remains my favorite Trek, but not every subsequent series needs to emulate it (and I'd argue a lot of nu-Trek has taken the wrong lessons from it), and I try to evaluate every new show I watch on its own terms. Yes, SFA isn't afraid to embrace "nerds vs. jocks" tropes (episode 3), yes its characters call each other "dicks" and "assholes" and use slang that's already cheugy, but I see its heart and I see its indelible characters. As mentioned earlier, Thok has been a scene-stealer, Holly Hunter as Ake has been unafraid at letting out her inner Shatner, and I love the decision to foreground a Klingon that isn't into violence and the inherent queerness therein -- and I don't care one whit that the dialogue sometimes borders on "Greetings, fellow kids." At the very least, the show has been excellent comfort food in a dark time; at its best, it's starting to point towards a path out of the darkness.
I view reading fantasy/sci-fi stuff as "this work of fiction is being translated into english so that I can understand it, meaning some phrases should not be taken literally" lord of the rings style, and then I meet people who nitpick every word or phrase that "shouldn't exist in this story" and I'm like wow you guys are truly miserable and unimaginative. and also you tend to assume that english words all popped up in the 19th century and you never bother to check the etymology of the words you're claiming "shouldn't exist in this universe"
like sorry but in an apocalyptic alternate-universe earth, the phrase "train of thought" is plausible even in a world without locomotives, because the word "train" comes from the 14th century, and it meant "to drag"
that's why we call dress trains "trains". because they drag. the word wasn't invented for locomotives.
y'all say shit so definitively like idk man I think it depends. the english language is OLD AS FUCK. a lot of words you believe are modern just aren't
If you are on a Windows 11 computer, pause everything you are doing for one minute and:
Open computer settings
Click on Accessibility on the left-hand menu
Scroll down the Accessibility menu and click on the Keyboard Option
Under the "related settings" tab, click "Typing" which should have a description of "spellcheck, autocorrect, text suggestions."
Turn off the AI "correct misspelled words"
and most importantly: turn off Typing Insights.
[ID: a screenshot of the above mentioned Windows 11 settings, showing that Typing Insights is now turned off, with the following description from Microsoft: "Windows is using artificial intelligence to help you type To help you save time and type efficiently, Windows can learn to suggest words, autocorrect spelling mistakes, and interpret swiped typing. Take a look at the insights below to see up-to-the-minute stats on how Windows has learned to improve typing for you. These stats are stored only on this device and Microsoft does not collect the typing insights data." End ID]
"But Mx. November, it says right there Microsoft doesn't collect the typing insights data!"
I mean, yeah, it says that..... for *now.*
It also only specifies that Microsoft themselves don't collect it, and they wouldn't have made this something that I was automatically, secretly opted in for without my knowledge if they didn't have something to be gained by me not knowing it exists!
I only found this because a cat walked on the keyboard and turned on Filter Keys and while trying to figure out why my keyboard was just making chirping noises instead of typing, I happened to click on "typing insights" by accident.
Generative AI, and especially AI that is used to "personalize" and track your activity across the web and on your computer are never going to be in your best interest, it is always going to serve these companies in whatever way will line their pockets the most, and all it takes is updating their terms of service once, and then all of that data they promised they weren't collecting suddenly all belongs to them.
This is the year to get real chill with inconveniences "solved" by AI. BC they are shoving this AI bullshit at us to "get rid of inconveniences" and it is already wildly out of hand, the number of things they've shoved this bullshit into (never mind that none of it is convenient, but how many people have already outsourced "writing emails" and really super super basic shit that we've done for years????)
There is no inconvenience that is worth using AI over.
Question: What is the greatest magic of all? Answer: Friendship, right? [B]: The greatest magic of all is not friendship, it's chronomancy, the ability to control and warp time. If friendship were the greatest magic, look, it's a pet peeve of mine (...)
DUNGEON MASTER BRENNAN LEE MULLIGAN ANSWERS DnD QUESTIONS (TECH SUPPORT | WIRED)
If you're in the US, now is a great time to talk to the young people in your life about the US military:
The recruiter is not your friend. The military employs child psychologists to learn how to make you think the recruiter is your friend.
The recruiter is allowed to lie to you and makes more money if they do.
The recruiter is paid a commission to groom children into cannon fodder.
The recruiter will tell you you're special and will go into special smart soldier programs instead of combat. They're lying.
The recruiter may tell you they can tell if someone can get PTSD or not and only recruit people like you, who won't. They're lying.
The recruiter may tell you you'll be too busy attending free college (!!) to go overseas. They're lying.
The recruiter may ask what countries you want to travel to and promise you bougie placements on military bases in those countries. They're lying.
Even "It's just four years!" is a lie - the government is allowed to hold you past your enlistment period with a stop-loss order.
The recruiter actually has zero power to decide anything that happens to you after you enlist and they more importantly don't care what happens to you.
If you enlist, you will be brainwashed to make you willing to do things to other humans that you would never be willing to do today.
You will be ordered to do things that will kill children. And you'll do them.
The military is not the only way or even the best way for you to go to college or start a career.
Military brainwashing will actually make you into a terrible university student because it degrades your ability to think critically and question your sources.
Having PTSD and/or a TBI will make it harder to be a student and keep a job.
Veterans' benefits suck these days.
Being a veteran drastically increases your risk of homelessness, suicide, alcohol and drug dependence, prison time, and becoming an abuser to your loved ones.
The military will expose you to chemicals that will drastically increase your chances of developing cancer.
The military will withhold information about your rights to conscientiously object after enlisting.
A lot can change in four years.
most of this is good - and i would say now is the time to fully write off the military at all tbqh - but i'm really stuck on this "recruiters get paid more to lie to you" because 1, the military goes to great lengths to NEVER pay you extra money and 2, how on earth would that even be verified/validated for your Prevarication Bonus?
SO. I am once again working on book 3 of Kryn/Marr.
(Yes, really. Stop giving me that look. I'M TRYING OKAY.)
so what i want to know is ... what part of the galaxy do you want to see? Imperial nightlife? Agrarian colonies? The really bitchin' sledding slopes of Rashamaran?
morning reblog!

thinking i'll play through the DA series, but all the MCs are just Kryn, going "WHAT FRESH HELL IS THIS" at everything
DAO!Kryn is a Tabris because dwarf didn't feel right at all, I love the Circle and Cousland origins (those are my two favorites) but they also just weren't gelling as right for Kryn imo, she just fully would not be a Country Elf ... and also "STAB A MOTHERFUCKER THAT'S GOT IT COMING". xD
While i HAVE installed a bi mod bc really Morrigan seems like the right choice, I think Alistair would be extremely endearing to her lmao, so I'm still not sure which way I'm going to go there.
Between work, my writing schedule (I AM FINALLY WRITING AGAIN) and keeping my house clean i don't have a TON of time to play, but she has met Alistair and they have made their way back to Duncan to get this show on the road. I'm hoping i get an hour or two each evening after my writing time (this week is planning out 2 novels - a horror novel i've been poking at for years and my romcom - plus mapping out the remainder of Kryn/Marr, plus four WIPS - Ca'ii/Arcann, Tish/Rycus, one based on the 48 Laws of Power I've wanted to do for ages, and Bryasere/Barash).
I'm so excited to be back on Tumblr. :D I've missed you guys!

Since 2012, I have defended Natasha Romanoff from people (mostly men) who believed she had no place on the Avengers. I am still doing that in 2026. I will continue to do that as long as I live, because Natasha Romanoff kept that fucking team together for as long as she could and I will not let Marvelâs fucking up her character take away from that.
Natasha Romanoff outsmarted THE god of mischief in Avengers (2012). She was a SHIELD agent among super soldiers and gods, and SHE was the one to find out Lokiâs plan.
Natasha Romanoff silently suffered in Age of Ultron (though not the only one to do so), ended up captured BY Ultron, and made it out fucking alive! Do you understand how much that took? The MCU never confirmed she is enhanced in any way (in the comics, she has the serum, and I do believe sheâs enhanced in MCU but we were just not explicitly told), and she survived the battle in Sokovia.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Civil War both show Natashaâs skill and ability VERY clearly. Keeping up in a fight with Bucky is NOT easy. The Winter Soldier is crazy fucking strongâthe dude has a metal armâand she did it! In fact, we learned that she survived an encounter with him years ago. In Civil War, she played both sides and fought the people she saw as her family. She is the reason yâallâs favorites made it out, btw, because it was her âbetrayingâ Tony that helped Steve and Bucky escape that airport. Kept Black Panther back as best as she could, dealt with the fallout.
And people point out that she ran at Thanos with a taser. Yes, she did. SHE RAN AT THANOS WITH A FUCKING TASER!! She knew she had a chance of not leaving that battlefield alive. Probably expected it. She grabbed what she had and she ran towards her opponent.
And then she gave her lifeâand I am a believer that she was truly thinking her sacrifice left the world better offâso that Thanos could be stopped in the end. And what did she get? A little lakeside acknowledgment, a tattoo on Thorâs back, and references later by characters Marvel is actively or will fuck up (Yelena, please be careful). And then we learn that those stupid stones are paperweights in other universes! She gave her life for a paperweight because she knew it would save HER universe.
Youâll notice I didnât mention her own movie. Her own movie that Marvel took years to make. I love that movie. Say what you will about the third act (Covid fucked with the CGI and stuff), but that movie was amazing and the intro was one of the best Iâve ever seen. She deserved more than that. She deserved for Marvel to show her character and develop her, to be put in the spotlight. She deserved for her story to be told, and I think it was, but there was so much more that couldâve been shown. Natasha truly suffered so much, yet she never let it take away from the sacrifices she made and the battles she gave herself to for the greater good.
If Natasha Romanoff doesnât fit the bill of what makes an Avenger, if she doesnât have the strength to be one of Earthâs Mightiest Heroes, then none of them do.
Put respect on her fucking name.
thereâs a phenomenon when it comes to enjoying a male character in a piece of media where itâs so much fun and i love my blorbo and i want to talk about my blorbo and read analysis of my blorbo but i realize very fast and very hard that the majority of fans made up a version of him that appeals to their horniness and itâs become the popular and standard interpretation and i do not care for that guy at all like iâd beat him with hammers actually
