Why I hated The Rise of Skywalker. (SPOILER ALERT)
So, I never ever do this. But Iām too sad and I need to vent. (English is not my native language so bear with me) And this are just my takes so donāt go crazy or anything.
First part is just a bunch of short scenes designed I guess to make you dizzy and forget that they are going to undo everything that happened in TLJ in the most absurd way possible. I feel that Abrams chose to listen to the more extreme fans. The toxic, screaming ones. The ones who bullied Kelly Marie Tran,
They never actually tell us how Palpatine survived. One would think that is important, being him the biggest villain of the saga. Oh, and that, efectively whipes out what Anakin did at the end of ROTJ. You know, the thing that killed him.
Rey says āyou will give me LukeĀ“s lightsaber when I have earned itā to Leia. Literally 5 minutes later, she goes on her quest and Leia gives it to her, and she accepted it without any comments.
Abrams, why did you include cameos from Dominic Monaghan, who speaks a bunch of times, wasting precious screen time: Just to annoy us? Because you know each other from Lost? Ā
I found specially horrifying that they decided that, obviously someone not coming from a dinasty, could ever master The Force like that. Not enough midiclorians I guess. Rey suddenly is a Palpatine, out of freakinā nowhere. So boring. āI didnāt mean they were nobodies, I meant they pretended to be nobodiesā(eyeroll)
If you are going to include more Force Ghosts than a Ghostbusters movie, then you should have shown Anakin at some point. Maybe he would have been a much more appropiate character for Kylo to speak to, than even Han Solo. Would have made his 180Āŗ more believable. Which I am not saying that it wasnāt. Thank the Lord for you, Adam Driver.
WhatĀ“s up with that whole āHUX IS THE SPYā thing, I mean the guy did hate Kylo Ren but really? Treason?ā¦. And it undermines his awesome nazi esque speech in TFA, which makes me sad because is one of my favourite scenes of the trilogy.
Finn spends the entire movie wanting to say something to Rey. In fact, even Poe asked him about it. And we NEVER found out what it was.
Speaking of which, suddenly Finn is āForce Sensitiveāā Just like that? In the middle of the movie and without any explanation.
That scene when they are on top of the Destroyer and Rose wants to go help.They say to her: ādonĀ“t goā and she just agrees. Who are you and what have you done with Rose?
I also think, and this is entirely my opinion, Ben should have lived. And if not, he deserved a proper sacrifice, like getting between Rey and the Emperor or something. Not this whole, āI love you but I will die so you can live, and be alone in the world. Bye Bye now.ā I understand that he canĀ“t just go celebrate with the Resistance or anything like that. He killed a bunch of people, after all. Maybe send him to LukeĀ“s island? At least show him as a Force Ghost or something. So that you see that he, as his grandfather, was totally redeemed in the end. Ā
I donāt get why did Rey buried both lightsabers in Tatooine. I mean, Leia spent almost no time there, And the one she spent, she was a sex slave of Jabba, I think. But I suppose it was done as a mirror, a way to end the saga where it started. Still I would also have liked to get some clue as to what Reys was gonna do next. Go off on new adventures? Start a new Jedi school? Join the Avengers? Not this āIām Rey Skywalkerā thing. But they finished it looking at the past, not the future,
And finally, poor Chewbacca lost almost everyone he cared about. Was it too much to ask for a scene where someone went and just sat with him. Some sort of mourning. Oh, but they gave him his medal! Everything is fine now, (2Āŗ eye roll)
And, just to be less bitter about this, some things that I really liked:
Leia completing her Jedi training. That was cool.
They did the best they could with with what they had from Carrie Fisher. I miss you, Carrie,
The āBe with meā whole thing. And the voices of the Jedis of yore.
The scene where Ben fights the Knights of Ren was awesome, I give you that.
And again, Adam Driver your are a fantastic performer, sir. Ā
So, thatās that. The end of the Skywalkers. Ā
