Iterator RP blog, I thought it would be fun if one was built underwater,
Basic info:
No specific plot in mind or anything, whatever develops, develops,
Hematophagous False Lure can really only communicate through pearls, most of them end up getting stuck on the shore, however
Due to their isolation being in the deep sea, they are completely unaware of the ancients being gone, and any signal they have to connect to broadcasts is extremely weak, barely able to transmit or receive a word or two, resorting to broadcasting snippets of Morse code as a last resort, but even that is unreliable
HFL can leave their can and swim, though frequently have to return to it for self maintenance and to recharge their puppet. As they are built to entirely be underwater, their puppet cannot wander on the surface
Lore time~
Hematophagous False Lure was built to assist in finding a solution to the Great Problem by studying deep sea life and their cycles, seeing if such “foreign creatures” had developed their own way of dealing with the cycles, reporting their findings and research through pearls they sent to the surface. Usually getting an acknowledgement response about once a week or so. However any responses they received stopped entirely after the ancient’s disappearance.
They were given this specific task as solving the Great Problem was taking a long time, and eventually a group of ancients figured maybe looking to the strange creatures of the deep could provide possible insight to assist with cracking the problem. This however, expectedly did not provide much. Because of this they are comparatively young.
They have no local group, as building them was already difficult enough, creating any more seemed greatly inefficient; leaving them isolated in the ocean. They are aware other iterators exist, but due to their weak signal, cannot locate or directly contact anyone outside of pearls.
Their puppet can leave their can and swim fairly far away without issue, their puppet having its own small power source to use. They were built this way to easily be able to observe their subjects of research up close, and collect data easier. However, that power source is not at all efficient, and they must return to their can to recharge, and preform self maintenance every 8 hours.
Because of how they were built, they cannot venture up onto the surface without damaging or putting their puppet out of commission, lacking water can cause it to shut down within minutes. They could theoretically reside in a saltwater tank, but they would still need to return to their can to recharge frequently. This made venturing into the surface by themselves coded to fall under the self destruction taboo, preventing them from attempting to do so outside of peeking above with their eyes.
Also their design was loosely based on an angler fish,,,
[There is a firm but gentle repeated bumping against one of the sea bound pillars of Winter’s structure…]
Despite being enthralled in the great tale that Upsilon was retelling to him, Winter felt the bumping immediately, slowly turning off antigrav in his room to allow the two safe descent.
Upsilon quickly realized what was happening, not even bothering to protest as it ran out of the room, through several pipes and houses and into the karma gate that lead to one of the five great pillars that held Winter's can above the sea.
As it waited there, tapping its foot impatiently, it thought quickly of every possible scenario that could go down. It was just getting to the worst ones when Winter gently pat their shoulder, signalling it was time to take the trek down the pillar.
The two went through the karma gate quickly, Upsilon once again sprinting ahead and nearly falling into the ocean below in his haste.
Winter grabbed his arm before he could fall off, dragging him to the pipe that would take the two directly down - the only direct way there until the lift was fixed.
They finally made it down, soggily crawling onto the small platform that Winter had installed so that Quiet and Dew could more easily assist with repairs...
The thumping soon stops, a small light against it beginning to move upwards towards the platform.
As it arrives closer to the water’s surface, it hesitates, but slowly peeks it’s head up. A noticeably small iterator stares at the duo, turning the light of their antenna off. They continue to stare for a few moments, then raise their arm to enthusiastically wave hello.
The two on the platform stare in shock, Winter admittedly a bit more confused, before Winter offers a jovial wave and Upsilon nearly falls off of the platform saying his hellos.
"You!! It's me, Upsilon- the person you were talking with!" He grins, "You're so SMALL, how do you manage?! Are your neuron flies smaller than you???"
Lure grabs hold of the platform to get a little closer, the light on their antenna flickering a few times.
“HII!! I can’t believe we didn’t give each our names until just now oops.”
“My name’s a little long so just Lure works! And I don’t use flies since I’m always in the sea, but I have purposed jellies that essentially do the same thing. A lot of them are indeed small.”
“I don’t know if I should be concerned about that ‘just in case’ remark… then again I couldn’t really understand what was being said either, I’m sorry!”
“It’s really nice to meet you in person too!” Lure whisper-yelled, gently tapping on the platform.
"Nothing offensive," Winter said, temporarily dropping the accent.
"Of course, Dear winter, we both knew that." Upsilon smiled, "But, Lure, before anything else, we should get you to somewhere a bit less awkward to talk to..."
"'Mobile that has water'..." Upsilon tried to figure out what he had available that fit that description.
"Perhaps we could use a terrarium of mins?" Winter offered, "Some are rather large... They may be hard to carry, I doubt we could bring it up without the lift, but we could easily just meet at the shore instead."
“A terrarium? I don’t want to disturb any creatures you might be keeping… though if you had an empty one I could fit in I think that’d work!”
Lure pondered a moment, “I’d still have to return to my structure eventually, to recharge and upload data to my structure. My connection to it is weak from here and I can’t do so correctly; my puppet can only process so much at a time by itself.”
“Ah! Forgive me, I can ramble. I can meet you on the shore, I just can’t crawl up onto it.”
“Then I don’t exactly see a reason to not at least try!”
“If you were to visit my can then we’d probably have to build a vessel to transport you with. I don’t know how well you can handle the pressure or if you have a limited distance you can go from your can…”

“I don’t think I’d mind smelling the fish if I could, though…”

,Also I should note you can also just, send OOC asks just to ask about Lure in general both because I think it would be entertaining and also I know I need to develop Lure more so sjshsndb

“Please.”
“I have long lost contact with my creators, none of the creatures here can speak, I have very little ability to broadcast to networks, and I am completely alone down here.”
“Was I abandoned? Has everyone died? Have my pearls stopped reaching anyone? Have they simply stopped bothering to respond to me and continue to keep my logs?”

<UPSILON> It depends entirely on how far away you are and how close you could get to us. Our group is mobile, at least to a point.
<UPSILON> ...The mass ascension was completed a few hundred cycles ago. I have heard rumors of small groups of ancients still trapped in their cities or wandering about, but by and large there are none left. Only us and every species they left behind.
<UPSILON> There are several servers that allow us to talk to each other around the world. Search for anything with the keyword "Discovery", you might be able to connect to one. It should give us an easier time with talking. Unless your communications arrays are really so horribly outdated..
<UPSILON> It's entirely possible that you were sent a communication but it was lost. Although... we also weren't given much warning before they left, and we've heard of many others in your position.
<UPSILON> You're rather deep, aren't you! I had no idea our superstructures could survive under so much pressure. If your connections don't work, and even if they do, I'll ask FDM to turn a disk to face down for you.
<UPSILON> I have absolutely no idea. You might want to ask Dew, she's the ~head mechanic~ after all. All I know is that we touch each other or place markers on each other and then can share power.
<UPSILON> Maybe that's all there is to it?
<UPSILON> Anyway, take your time with processing that, my dear
<UPSILON> Happens to the best of us, I'm simply glad you're alright. I've never seen a crash before...
<UPSILON> So, you would like to meet up someday, yes? I have friends who are practically halfway inside of the sea, and if you can go far enough I'm sure we could meet.
<UPSILON> I sure hope you aren't dragging your cell with you - unless you have a miniature one in your puppet? That would explain how you can travel, probably???
<UPSILON> My friends have to be close, they protect us from the winds after all. They aren't the sort to steal much of anything, don't worry!
