Fiora’s expression remained hard, her glare cutting into every single other person in the room that dared to laugh.
“Forgive me, General, but I specifically remember writing a report on the risks this region poses, where I detailed specifically what I have just said?” she turned to him blinking, almost matching the tone he had given her, “I trust this didn’t reach you.”
She didn’t wait for him to respond before she turned back to the board, a sigh escaping her. Paperwork for the sake of keeping her busy? Typical. She wasn’t going to linger on it, she could read their faces. There were too many lives on the line. Her inexperience at the war table was showing. She just wracked her brain for what she was taught about the last time Demacia had defended this area.
“You press forward, it’s a bloodbath, you fall back, just the same. At least historically, the better option is to call the retreat. You cut your troops off already by moving them in…” Fiora removed the figures she placed on the table and grabbed a fistful more from the box, placing them down in a group outside the ring of Demacian ones, “…but the Dauntless won’t expect you to send in more men from their flank.”
She pulled the box over and started looking through it for something else, slowly picking out more pieces as she talked.
“You will need to create an opening for them to return to cover. I don’t know how many men you have left but you’ll need at least a small party…” once she counted the right amount, she placed down five black raven pieces on the ring.
“Getting their attention would cause them to concentrate their forces to the attacked area. Swain sent five Ravens with me to assist you if needed. They’re an option to clear it quietly, but they still need backup if things turn sour.”
She stepped back, the same worry that was painted on their faces spread to hers.
”I don’t know what else I can suggest.”
The room once again fell silent. Every man at the table felt insulted at the insinuation that they needed help from Swain’s Ravens, but they didn’t dare speak against it -- because they did.
Her glare didn’t help, either.
Darius’ eyes pour over the table, taking in her words and accentuating the silence in the tent. It became uncomfortable, everyone in the room at the mercy of the general’s decision, the general who’s anger became more visible with each moment as he realized he had no other options.
“Fine.” he finally speaks, hardly audible as he straightens his backs and cools his temper. “Fine. You’re right.” his eyes turn from Fiora to his gathering, “Send the order for the men to retreat, and assault the Dauntless in their flanks, by your order. Send the Ravens too. Go.”
There’s a collective sigh of relief from the general's court, who promptly disperse to gather their officers and dispense their orders, but before the Raven herself could leave he pipes up again; “Except you, Nightraven.”
He drags a finger across the map table as he approaches the surprised woman, a coy, almost mocking smile on his face as he watches his men clear the tent.
“I admire your dedication - but the next time you want me to get a message, make sure a Noxian sends it.”
A quick death… like the one you gave me? No. You’re going to suffer as I did. Thanks to my arrow, you can’t even run. Give my regards to hell, you son of a bitch.

fioranightraven:
It’d barely been days since Fiora had been put back on active duty after having her initiation completed with the Flock, and unsurprisingly to her she was being thrown into the thick of it without much preparation. The fabric still felt sore against her skin as she came forward, looking up sharply as the General addressed her.
Her eyes studied the map that stood between them, looking at the figures laid out, her face screwing up a little.
“Rather a bold move leaving your flank so open here. I’ve seen Demacians exploit that position more than once against northern tribes and there’s not much to avoid it if you aren’t covered properly,” her brisk walk around the table made the others in the room take a step back to let her pass. Fiora picked up a few new, smaller figures and planted them in strategic points around the ones already standing.
“If you can spare the scouts, these would be your best points to oversee for safe passage. Otherwise I advise rerouting entirely.”
She was right, and that was unfathomably annoying, especially since he wasn’t hearing anything new; Darius knew about the massive flank he had created by having his line push forward into the marsh, and he was fully aware that he may have just created the worst, bloodiest mistake of his career -- and here she was, pointing it out.
“The Warmasons?” Darius scoffs, his voice low and menacing like she had caught one of the bull-folk in a lie. “You mean for me to send poorly armed scouts to fend off the Dauntless?”
The idea was mocked further by the low chuckles and sneers of his council, but behind their tone was a tinge of fear for their battle-line, whom still weren’t even aware of what they were walking into.
“We.. we can’t have them retreat, not now. Turning their backs in that marsh would be a slaughter.”

you don’t need purity in the material you consume
you have a brain, you are capable of critical thinking, you can sift through the material and keep what is edifying for you and discard what isn’t
flaws don’t necessarily make material worthless
all right i queued this last night because i was already posting a lot and didn’t want to flood anyone’s dash but you guys i need to talk about this more.
like, okay. i grew up REALLY STRICT christian. like. every piece of media i consumed underwent a fine-toothed comb by my parents to be sure there wasn’t anything “sinful” in it. I got into a tearful, screaming fight with my mother over whether I was allowed to watch a piece of educational children’s material on PBS because one of the characters said “damn” once.
(I’m still not sure they did. In retrospect, I think my purity-focused mother misheard something and, having her suspicions confirmed that you couldn’t trust any “secular” source not to be sinful, reacted accordingly.)
(Pay attention, that parenthetical was also relevant.)
Do you know what my teenage rebellion was? Listening to the oldies station in the car when I had my driver’s license and could go places on my own. That was my big fuck-you to my parents: listening to the Beatles and Simon & Garfunkel and the Fifth Dimension when they couldn’t tell me how I shouldn’t be listening to them because the creators of that music were drug-addled, free-loving atheists whose own disregard for God and religion might just infect my impressionable spirit. Like I was gonna listen to “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” and go do LSD and become an atheist. This was my teenage rebellion in the year 1999.
I’m 35 now. And all right so I became agnostic. But I didn’t become a drug addicted prostitute because I loved listening to psychedelic rock music as a teenager. (And you know what? Even if I had become a drug addicted prostitute, I’d still have worth as a human being, so dissect that one.) And it wasn’t even the psychedelic rock music that turned me agnostic: It was Christianity itself. But that’s another story altogether.
My point here is: Y’all are on here acting like my goddamn parents, “don’t watch this” and “don’t listen to that” because this character does XYZ problematic thing and this author said ABC ignorant thing two years ago at a con when they were put on the spot in an interview. If you watch this movie where a teenager falls in love with someone five years older than them, you’re going to become a pedophile! If you read this book by an author who once used an outdated term for someone in the trans community, then you’re a transphobe!
Y’all need to sit the fuck down and stop acting like nobody ever taught you to think for yourself, because I know damn well that you’re capable of critical thought and you don’t need your media chewed up and spit into your mouth like a baby bird. And I’m an adult and I sure the hell don’t, so stop telling me I’m going to choke because I’m consuming something complicated, complex, and not already pre-morally-dissected for me.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Pardon me, but who are your Darius' daughters? I'm guessing Invetia is one of them.
i never specified that darius had any daughters, but going by the blood of noxus comic he just has the the one (invetia) and he’s not even certain if hes the father / purposefully refusing to acknowledge it if he is.
however in my main ship with my friend @fioranightraven (who’s been around since my first darius blog) darius and fiora have three children; draco, damon and celine, but it’s a little messy establishing how and where they fit into this blog’s canon bc my darius and her story both developed independently of each other
Silence is usually a bad sign at the war table. Silence is in absence of progress.
Darius’ eyes scan over the group gathered in their collective speechlessness. It was a marvel, really, how the Nightraven left a room of the Might’s elite. men and women famous for their stubbornness and declarations, clueless of how to respond to a single statement. Rather than impressed, however, Darius was disappointed in his council, throwing bitter glares at the officers before finally speaking.
“ And how, exactly -- “ he stares down his special forces a little longer before turning his frustrated gaze to the brazen woman standing at the entrance of his tent. “ Do you suppose we do that? “ @fioranightraven
reminder that darius has nightmares about ahri and could recognize her despite never actually seeing her face.
