Loving Again In The Aftermath
My last lover had hands that broke me.
I’m sorry, he still lives with me sometimes.
But I still want to love you. I do. I’m sorry if his voice is still screaming inside me when I open my mouth. A haunting echo reverberating in my lungs. Don’t listen. Don’t listen. I don’t want to either.
You are so beautiful, but I’m sorry if sometimes I don’t know whether it’s a mask or not. I saw a man rip his skin off right in front of me once. And now sometimes when I run my hands over you, I look for corners that lift. It’s just a habit.
I want to love you wholly. I will one day. Please be patient with me.
