bio.
it all started with his his father. matthias drake was in control. at the beginning of his life there was already such disconnectedness between he and his father that it made it difficult for henrick to grow as a child ought to, including milestones like walking and talking. the only comfort he had for years was from his mother, anastacia.
matthias would ignore and berate henrick. it didn't take long to see the type of man matthias was and the small boy swore to never be like him. in contrast, his mother, anastacia took extra notice of her young son, her first child. with henrick being born in denmark she decided to read him hans christian anderson’s fairy tales. curled up with his mother and hearing her voice made him find his voice. his first word was “love”. the solace he found increased when his sister isabella was born. he immediately found who he was: a protector and someone warm with love as a mere eight year old.
henrick’s little sister was his angel. as he watched her grow he was mesmerized. she excelled where he faltered filling him with pride, almost as though he was her father. isabella gave him a bright light to follow even when her curiosity got the best of her. like the night they should have listened to their father. henrick was old enough to know that creatures were matthias’ job. to aid in destroying them. he knew matthias saw creatures as only dangerous and nothing else. as much as henrick cursed his father he did have it right about not going out at night during the full moon. it was the reason he did his best to convince isabella not to go out that night. he tried and tried but she persisted. he would never let her go alone.
as they watched the full moon behind their humble home henrick felt a sense of peace. it was quiet, just the two of them and the beautiful seeing the moon shining upon them. just then, sounds came from around them. menacing sounds that came closer, headed straight for isabella. without a second thought henrick leaped in the werewolf’s path, allowing it to destroy him instead of his sister. the first deep scratches along his neck and shoulders were a pain he had never known. the claws running down his chest and back made his vision go black. he couldn’t see her but hoped that isabella had gotten home and didn’t witness the savage attack.
henrick laid on the ground in insufferable pain but finally managed to move, crawling before he could walk, into the woods and terrified. he wished he wasn’t changed but knew better. he wasn’t what he used to be, wasn’t going to be welcomed into his home or be isabella’s protector. all the physical pain turned emotional. henrick held his wounds and whimpered. he was only thirteen, a life taken away.
out of desperation henrick tried to go back home. when he did it was as expected -- matthias took the reins and wouldn’t let the family near the figure that was once his child. the only “good” thing he did was give henrick a few moments to escape before good ol’ dad did his job, sprinting to get rid of the threat that was his own son. luckily for henrick he was able to navigate the woods as though he’d lived there his entire life. he could hear matthias’ movements and yells but refused to give him the chance to make a mockery of him. it was in that moment henrick ran faster than he could have ever imagined. he was changed and could find new ways to protect himself which came with ease once he allowed himself to fully admit what he was. he didn’t know how long he’d been scouring the woods for protection before he lost matthias but he had. henrick never stopped looking over his shoulder.
along the way henrick found a pack. initially he wanted nothing to do with them but soon realized that if he didn’t have a pack he would be completely alone so he wormed his way in. unfortunately he had to prove himself. he had to change someone, something he swore he would never do, but that was the price. henrick, age thirteen, found someone large, someone that might hurt him rather than the other way around. he wanted to say, “i tried” and hoped that would be enough. however, he was wrong. henrick didn’t know his own strength and took the man down, not ever knowing his name. from that point on henrick refused to talk about anyone he may have hurt and put it in a locked box stored in his mind.
the pack was his family. and genesis, a sleek werewolf around his age became not just family but something more. henrick wanted to believe in the first word he spoke, but love wasn’t something he thought he deserved. genesis worked to teach him differently but henrick was always a bad student. he preferred to be the isolated werewolf of the pack. he was scared, always scared of getting close to anyone ever again. not since he lost his isabella.
the pack traveled and traveled. henrick despised it, reminding him of all the places matthias took them. henrick’s entire life was traveling, never stopping. however, as a war began to rage, the werewolves were found, convinced and promised great things if they sided with voldemort and became death eaters. yet again henrick felt he had no choice. the only slight silver lining is that genesis found isabella in london, exactly where they were headed. there were many mixed emotions but just the thought of seeing her made his heart leap in a way it hadn’t since that fateful night. he could find her, he could see her, he could even watch her movements and protect her from the shadows without saying so much as a word.
the war henrick was stuck in didn’t only include death eaters and the order, it also included isabella and where he belonged in her life. would he have the chance at a different life? would he be able to free himself from the chains he’d found himself in since childhood? after twelve years he needed to know.
