Henrie was born the last of four siblings in a halfblood household, a mix of magical and muggle culture. She quickly got used to being the last picked, last thought of (and even completely forgotten on occasion), essentially being the least important person of her family. Thus, Henrie grew up more reserved, quiet, and thoughtful. A soft soul, Henrie doesn't have to try to be kind, gentle, understanding, and giving. In school she never really made any friends, but it was just as well since she kept her grades up - especially in the class in which she shined: Transfigurations. Hopefully this year she'll make friends and have some fun.
Henrie, getting a little irritated with how loud it was in the library, had decided to go out and look for someplace quiet and calm to go read in peace. She had ended up climbing a tree (not too high, though), scraping up her knees and finding a comfortable branch to lean on to dig into Fahrenheit 451.
“Shit, my bad. I could’ve SWORN you were someone else, I don’t make a habit out of popping out at strangers…even though I’m sure you’re not that strange…regardless, that color looks impeccable on you.”
“Oh! Uh, n-no problem. I, um, I hope I’m not all that strange?” The compliment sunk in and a blush lit up her face. She glanced down at her green blouse as she replied “Uh, thank you...” The redhead smiled, looking awkward. “Y-your hair looks lovely,” Henrie returned the sentiment, a small but honest smile gently curved the side of her mouth.
Sometimes, when he hadn’t changed in a while, his whole body started to itch. As if Padfoot was scratching at his insides trying desperately to break free. On those days he could hardly focus on his lessons, twitching and fidgeting in his seat. His eyes were aching from all the bright colous his human eyes had to tolerate and he yearned for the soft yellows, blues and greys the dog could see. Tonight was especially bad and Sirius had to excuse himself from the Great Hall after just a few bites of his dinner. He had to get out of here. If only it were a full moon already. Everything in him screamed to get out, get down to the forest and just run. With everyone busy eating, he could probably slip out without anyone noticing. Sirius had almost reached the portal when he felt someone in his back making his skin tingle. HIs mind already half-canine, he whipped around, swallowing the growl in his throat.
Henrie’s eyes widened and a blush broke out across her cheeks. “Uh, i-it’s just me, Henrie.” She tried to chuckle but it just sounded awkward and forced. “I w-was walking around... Uh,” She unconsciously grabbed a lock of her hair and tugged on it. “I don’t mean to bother you, sorry.”
Daisy smiled to see Henrie open up a bit more. “Ooh, well I do love a classic chocolate frog, I have an amazing card collection at home from those. And honestly, I just love all the books from Tomes and Scrolls, the owner of the store knows me by name.”
“Oh, I could eat a dozen chocolate frogs in one sitting, they’re just the best, aren’t they? I’m partial to jelly sweets, myself.”
She totally understood what Daisy was saying... She too was a regular at Tomes and Scrolls, but she was too shy to talk to anyone so the only person that might recognize her would be this a nice older gentleman who wore thick, square eyeglasses. He too loved sitting in the ancient couches and pouring over texts.
“I know what you mean... It’s so fascinating to learn all there is to know from books so ancient. I do love novels as well. Lots of muggle novels as well. Have you heard of The Hobbit?”
Daisy turned to face Henrie, swivelling in her chair to engage her body in the conversation – something about Henrie’s stance and stuttered conversation made Daisy think she needed to know she had her full attention. Her guarded and nervous stance reminded her all to well of the little girl Daisy herself used to be. “Hogsmeade weekends are some of my favourites,” she grinned. She turned quickly to grab the butterbeer the barmaid extended out to her, taking a sip and relishing in the taste she’d missed over the summer. “What’d I like best? Oh gosh, there’s too much…hmm…well I love Honeydukes, I’m a bit of a whore for candy. But I also love Tomes and Scrolls, I’m also an admitted book hoarder,” she laughed.
Henrie brightened a bit. “I love both of those stores! What do you like best, er, from both I guess?”
Emma let out a deep sigh like this girl was causing a huge inconvenience for her. “Here-” She paused, grabbing the girl by the shoulders and placing her in the lineup right behind her. “You’re gonna stay behind me and stop moving around like a lunatic or else you’re going to lose your spot again. Do you think you can do that?”
“Yes.” She sighed a bit, relieved, before smiling. “Thank you.”
As usual, Madam Puddifoots was busy with people when she walked in. Emma hated crowded places, with people getting in her way and touching her when all she wanted was a hot drink. There was a redhead in front of her who seemed completely lost and incompetent at navigating her way through the line and it was extremely irritating for her. When the girl stepped somewhat out of the lineup, Emma shoved her out of the way and knocked her to the floor. Emma stared at the girl on the ground, surprised that she was the one saying sorry and not demanding it be the other way around. “You can’t keep jumping in and out of line, some of us are actually planning on ordering something before graduation. Bugger off if you’re gonna keep getting in my way!”
Henrie clambered to her feet and turned to face the other girl. Flushing in embarrassment, she stammered “I- uh, I didn’t mean to... It’s kind of confusing, I’m not all that sure where the line is, there’s so many people... C-can you show me, please?”
Daisy loved Hogsmeade weekend. She loved the buzzing excitement of the castle the night before. She loved the chatter of the carriages bringing students on their way. She loved the crowds of young girls and boys who brought life to the town even on the bleariest of afternoons. Hogsmeade was one of her happy places, and oh how she’d missed it over the summer. Stepping onto the street from the carriage, Daisy took in a deep breath of the fresh air. “–Oh, how I’ve missed this.” She smiled as she made her way through the streets, heading first to the Three Broomsticks for a Butterbeer. As she waited at the bar, she turned her head to the person sitting next to her. “Are you as excited as me to be back?” She grinned.
Sitting calmly at the bar mostly lost in her own thoughts, Henrie was surprised when suddenly someone was excitedly talking to her. People didn’t usually involve her in conversation so she was unsure how to carry one on. “Y-yeah, I am.” She smiled, knowing that she must’ve been blushing. Oh geez, what do I say next? she wondered after an embarrassing pause. “So... uh... what do you...like best? About coming to Hogsmeade?”
The first thing Henrie wanted to do as soon as her classmates had been let loose in Hogsmeade was enjoy a pleasant, warm tea at Madam Puddifoot’s. Apparently, though, she hadn’t taken into account how many others had the same idea as her. It was awkward and uncomfortable to weave through the groups of witches and wizards to try to get to the queue but once she finally did, the redhead found it was a bit chaotic and wasn’t sure how or where to step into the queue and couldn’t find her voice to ask anybody to move.
Though when something shoved her forward, nearly knocking her to the ground, her instinct caused her to exclaim “Sorry!”
It had been months since Hartley had wandered these streets, and after seven years they’d grown familiar. So when a new music shop had popped up over the summer he was drawn to it, glancing at the window display with awe in his eyes. “Some of these are muggle records.” He mumbled, reading the title of a few through the glass. “Merlin, I’m going to be broke by the time the day is over.”
Henrie herself had been heading toward the entrance of the music shop she had been excited to visit since the collection of records in the common room was on the sparse side when she heard the other’s murmuring. It took her nearly two minutes to muster up the courage to step closer and softly inquire “Do you like muggle music too? Who do you like?”
{ HENRIETTA MCKAY } is a { HUFFLEPUFF } student in their { 6th } year, and { SHE } still can’t believe they’ve gotten this far.
