Learning from the traditional building typology (High Street, Rochester, (Medway), Kent, UK)
Village / Campus / Community within a community Concept/Idea
The abstract core
The idea of an abstract unknown core of the campus - (traditional - new - future)
Tech Village: Start-Up Space with a focus on technical ideas.
Medway has several schools/colleges with a tech focus (Medway UTC, Thomas Aveling Scool, Sir Joseph Williamson’s Mathematical School)
Greenwich has their School of Engineering and Science campus in Medway. They do extended studies into engineering and other tech. ‘stuff’ including robotics. They even introduced a robot tutor in 2014.
Geku, robot supplier: providing automation solutions to all sectors of manufacturing industry, is located in Medway
The site is centrally located, close to Europe and only 25-30 min away (Train) from TECH CITY in East London (The world's third biggest tech. area).
The development will be a campus for Medway's tech future: Open shared offices spread around the main hub (the brain) where the start-up businesses connect with the market - mentors, lawyers (help in general is provided in the brain). It will be designed to be an integrated piece of the larger urban fabric. On the surface it will be a green ‘nice’ social democratic village for everyone, even the conservatives, but.... ...underneath lies the unorthodox unknown future, hidden from the town. This is a space (a lab/research facility (??)) that looks into robotics and AI). ...will be continued
Concept: Traditional (Past) - New Modern (Now) - Secret/Hidden (Future) - Conservative England - Site context - Community
Mass study: Village Type
Conceptual Idea - Blue Boar Community
