on my second viewing of obsession, i had the realization that nikki’s story at the party wasn’t the movie using incest as an easy shorthand for making the audience uncomfortable or creating a general “things are off” vibe but was another way the real nikki was crying out—a metaphor for the fact that nikki, like gretel, is being made to fuck her “little brother” (bear) under duress, at the behest of an external magic (the witch’s spell in her story; obviously, bear’s wish)

if i see another person look at that scene and frame it as some cutesy ship material i'm just going to block on sight. already hated that ship because it's never really acknowledged by the fandom that it's just abuser/victim but tried not to be too mean about it because it's just a ship and people can have different interpretations. not even mentioning that him blackmailing her for heavily implied sexual material (the "figurine thing", her sketchbook ("i never knew you were an embarrassing little freak gangle!"), gangle feeling dehumanized by it) is by definition sexual extortion of some kind. even if it's not actual sexual material of gangle herself it's still held above her head to the point where she feels like she's "a toy for his amusement"

but some of you people find THAT cute? you look at the scene where jax fantasizes about sexually harassing and coercing his main victim while she's manic and vulnerable because she no longer has someone around to stand up for her? and you go "aww omg ribbun is canon!!!!" or "you can't deny jax definitely considered it :3" (<- actual post i saw)

yet if you suggest that this is sexual in nature or sexual harassment you get people going "uhh jax isn't THAT bad it's just a joke!!! it's just bullying it's not abusive!!!" (bullying is recognized as a form of abuse btw. so that argument doesn't work). YES HE IS THAT BAD AND IT'S NEVER ACKNOWLEDGED. IT'S NEVER BROUGHT UP. heavily implied this guy wants to sexually assault his main victim and some of you fuckers are acting like it's confirmation your ship is canon in some way

it's interesting to me that Markiplier's arguably most notable work before Iron Lung was Unus Annus

where the point was "dead is dead, all you have when someone dies is your memory, when this is gone it's Gone don't try to salvage it and keep it alive, just remember it"

and people inevitably Didn't Do That. They saved and shared records of their favourite moments, refused to let it disappear despite so many efforts otherwise. The full bulk of it may be Gone but the clips and records we kept will go on forever, always keeping a piece of it alive, creating new things from its scraps and still inspiring people who might never have known it

the most offensive part of tvl so far is that somehow in 4 episodes they have covered less narrative than like the idk. one chapter of the book in which lestat joins the band. whyyyyy why WHY is this show paced so poorly. has louis done anything yet i swear to GOD nothing is HAPPENING
