IN THE SEELIE KINGDOM, sexuality isn’t defined or labelled or judged in the same way it is with humans. the seelie fae are very free about love, sexuality, and nudity. while positions such as queen or princess have a little more rigidness, they are still very open about everything. there are many seelie rituals that are conducted in the nude, and there’s no shame or stigma surrounding it. the summer solstice, for example, one of the seelie kingdom’s highest holidays, is lead completely naked because it’s believed the bare form better connects to nature since it’s how we’re born. and kaia’s been a part of the festival for almost her whole life, while she’s lead two as queen.

it is also a completely normal thing for seelie’s to have more than one romantic or sexual partner, even at the same time. polyamory is quite common in the seelie court.

and, while like humans, seelies may prefer one gender over the other for a partner, they don’t have labels for such thing. kaia, herself, has no preference when it comes to sexual partners, and she’s been with male, female, and what humans label as non - binary. when it comes to romance, however, she tends to lean towards enjoying the company of women more, though she has never been in any sort of romantic relationship as of yet in her life. she’s afraid, as a queen, she would always find herself stuck choosing between her job and her partner, and her job must come first.

SUCH WEIGHT. she’s still smiling despite it. perhaps a night of forgetting queenly duties might not be the worst thing to possibly happen. she relaxes further, taking a blanket off the back of her chair and wrapping herself in it. aurora stays quiet when kaia starts sharing similar sentiments, gaze turning from the fire to the queen beside her. the unseelie queen and her mother have a unique relationship. she can’t say she wouldn’t be sad if she was dead, but it’s a little difficult to say she’d miss her. they’ve never been close and part of ro knows it’s because of her father, ever the unseelie king is he. her expression softens at the mention of kaia’s mother’s death, her shoulders relaxing as she curls up further into the chair, already beginning to feel more comfortable now that they’re sharing more of themselves with one another. maybe, even though they’re two queens from opposite ends, they aren’t so different after all.

“SINCE YOU’RE being so honest, it’s only fair i do the same.” even though she can already hear her parents screaming at her not to. she exhales softly, clearing her throat and resting her head on her hands on the back of the chair she sits in, “when i was born, my parents had a plan,“ can kaia tell she’s nervous to be talking about this so openly?
