When I finished the last Harry Potter book all I wanted to do was go to Hogwarts and have a wand and make magic potions. Over the years I've realized that I've been making magic potions all along. The magic might be a little slower than what Harry and his friends could accomplish but I can still work magic. Going to Hogwarts however was a little more challenging. So I've been working on a class for Muggles who wish they had gone to Hogwarts. It's called Potion: Practical Magic for Muggles. It's a hands-on class for adults that they wish they went to Hogwarts. We'll be making potions to ward off foreign invaders like viruses and other infectious critters, we'll create an antidote to aging, a cure-all oil for skin afflictions and we'll celebrate our magic powers at the end with a very famous magic potion, a martini. This summer has all been about making liqueurs. This is the summer that I discovered the wonders of holy basil. I've been drinking a tissane made of it every day and I also made some holy basil flavored vodka to play with. I'm also making an herbal liqueur from the herb garden at the community garden. I just took a little of each thing that we were growing and also a few things that I had here like Tonka beans, vanilla beans and shisandra berries. I'm going to let that one macerate another couple of months before I tinker with it.
