ginger
zingiber officinale. antiseptic, laxative, stimulant, antibacterial, pain killer. root can be used in teas and tinctures or with raw application. ginger oil can be applied topically or diffused, but ingestion should be with dilution and great caution.
ginger is well-known for its effectiveness in reducing nausea and as a spice used in all corners of the world. it aids the digestive system in a number of ways (flatulence, vomiting, morning sickness, diarrhea, indigestion) and is helpful in the treatment of different sicknesses, such as angina, club foot, fever, and arthritis. in a gargle it is effective in soothing a sore throat. it can potentially aid in muscular sprains, aches, or pains, and has been used historically as an aphrodisiac.
personally, i use ginger the most when juicing for its nice spicy-sweet flavor. it has always worked well in helping me with an upset stomach. recently, my mom has been suffering from intense and painful toothache. i mixed up coconut oil and oregano oil for her to spread on her gums, which gave her slight relief, but a small piece of raw ginger, skinned and scrubbed, gave her instant and long-lasting relief when she put it between her teeth in the afflicted area. ginger can also be used aromatically because of its wonderful fragrance, but i've seen the biggest results in the areas of nausea and pain.

lavender
lavandula angustifolia. anticonvulsant, antidepressant, antifungal, antihistamine, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, regernerative, sedative. use oil topically, or use flowers on skin, in an infusion, or in a tincture. oil should not be ingested, but the flowers may be.
lavender may help in healing from abuse (emotional or physical) because of its effectiveness in balancing mood and as a natural pain killer. lavender is well known for its calming effects: it will reduce agitation, irritation, anxiety, tension, and stress. it makes a great sleep aid helps the mind to concentrate. it may help with depression and with exhaustion. as a pain killer, it works with bites, blisters, scratches, sores, burns, muscle pain or arthritis, and rashes. it may be used to reduce fever. for dry skin, oil may be used with a moisturizing carrier oil like coconut, shea, or jojoba. this mixture is also extremely effective for chapped and/or dry lips.
personally, lavender is one of my favorites. i use it in all of my mixtures and as a general oil when i'm not sure what else to use. i use it as a sleep aid and with any pain or ache i have (it's even soothed my bouts of restless leg syndrome when i apply it directly to my legs!). it works well on chapped lips. for headaches, though, i've found that peppermint is a better option. i like to apply the essential oil topically to any afflicted area, but for its soothing and calming properties, i like to apply it to my temples, the back of my neck, my spine, the bottoms of my feet, and occasionally, my reflex points. when used in massage, especially for achey or painful muscles, i dilute in coconut oil. when in doubt, use lavender!

Today, odds are that you have had/have cancer, or know somebody who does. In Canada, approximately one million Canadians that were alive at the beginning of 2009 have had a cancer diagnosis in the previous 10 years. Two out of every five Canadians will develop cancer within their life time, and one in every four […]
