“Now you’re being so nice, and I was such a brat,” Jay frowned, feeling guilty all of a sudden. “I’ve just…I’ve never had anything that’s mine before. So seeing someone try…it got me riled up. Like, I finally have someone good that’s mine, and I didn’t want someone taking that from me. I know you’d never do anything,” he said, looking up at him with sad eyes. “I appreciate the apology. I’m sorry for overreacting.”

“Jay don’t do that to yourself,” he sighed. “you weren’t a brat, stop it. i told you that what you were thinking was right because i was thinking the same way,” h said softly. “i am yours, and i know its scary, but no one will ever try because i won’t let them,” he said. he squeezed his hand and leaned kissing him “i’m never going anywhere,” he said. “you’re okay..”

“I know, I just got…jealous,” he admitted finally. When Herc brought up Carlos, he swallowed. He wanted to counter that Carlos was different, that Carlos was like a brother. But he kept his mouth shut. “I get that I’m being dumb,” he said. “But it still made me feel..bad.”

hercules took his hand “i’m sorry, i don’t want you feeling jealous, or worried that something is going to happen. i don’t want you thinking that of me,” he said softly. “you’re not being dumb,” he sighed. “you’re not, i would get jealous too if i saw someone all over you. not because i don’t trust you, but because you’re mine, and no fucking guy should be touching you..” he said. “I’m sorry, i don’t want you to feel bad, i should have stopped them.”

“Of course I trust you,” Jay countered, because it was the truth. “It’s other people I don’t trust.” In reality, he knew Hercules wouldn’t be swayed by just any pretty boy batting his eyelashes. But something churned in his stomach when he thought about them trying.

he sighed “i get that other people can’t be trusted, but you need to trust me not to do anything back,” he said. “I mean, not everyone wants me, that’s not realistic.” he said. “i know that sounded ridiculous but its true, i have friends that are guys, and friends that are girls,” he said to him. “haven’t you ever been touchy with your friends? carlos?” he asked curiously. “it doesn’t always have to mean more.” he walked over to him now “i don’t want you upset or thinking i’m flirting with other people behind your back.”

Poking the buttons, the young boy looked like he was dreaming as the candy bar fell. However, it was soon caught between its shelf and the glass of the vending machine. He stared at it aimlessly for a moment, chewing on his bottom lip before tapping on the glass. What appeared to be someone’s frustration over the machine was just over looked by the public but Issac was having none of it and soon slammed his fist one more time. The glass cracked away and fell to the ground but he never bat an eyelid, awkwardly picking the candy bar and turning on his heels to meet the person behind him. “The machine is broken. Sorry.” Issac walked on, opening the wrapper and taking a small bite, all while surprised that he still had his strength from being a bear.

hercules looked at him surprised “hey,” he said “hey you just broke that and walked off,” he said following him. “i mean, i get it, your candy got stuck, i’ve broken shit too by accident but it’s not the way to do things,” he said. he couldn’t believe that, maybe he was strong too but at least hercules cared about his actions.

“it might be odd but it also might a good topic for a conversation. i’ll just keep it short. and please don’t walk away or look at me differently. because i promise you, it doesn’t change anything about my personality or my intentions.” simon replied, always dreading the fact of telling people what he truly was. but he also didn’t want to lie as it’ll come out at some point anyways. “long story short, i’m a vampire. and i only need blood to survive. but don’t worry, i don’t bite people. i’m against that. i have morals.” he chuckled softly, his way of trying to make it seem less scary. “it does suck because i really miss a good burger with fries now.” the boy joked, but actually really missing solid food. “i can tell and i like it. i mean, he’s a good guy but he needs to be less serious from time to time.” they had grown to tolerate each other so it wasn’t as bad anymore as it used to be. “nice! that’s so cool. i mean, i’ve always liked hercules from all the stories and the movies so talking to his son right now is awesome. and seeing as i’m a vampire, i don’t doubt anything anymore. everything’s possible.” he smiled softly. “that’s still so weird. knowing that there are different universes in the world. and it’s nice to meet you too, dude!”

hercules raised an eyebrow at the way he said that “if you’re about to come out to me, i’m already gay, you’re cool,” he chuckled softly, unsure where this was going. though lots of people here had secrets, so he was interested to know his and found it cool he was going to tell him. “a vampire?” he asked raising his eyebrows. “woah, that’s so cool,” he said to him. “and i guess the stereotypes are all wrong,” he said. “since one, you’re outside,” he chuckled. “that’s cool,” he said “that you have morals and know right from wrong. i mean, i don’t know any other vampires but the stories i’ve heard, so, you seem like a chill guy,” he smiled at him with ease. he grinned when he said that “thanks, for believing me, but i guess, yeah, it’s hard to not believe it for you,” he laughed. “i’m strong too, just like him,” he grinned. “I know, it’s so cool, i love meeting new people.”

“It’s a deal. No taking it back now even if you end up regretting it when you really get to know me!” She teased laughing. It was nice to meet someone who was not only helpful but nice and easy to talk to as well. “Glad you like the coffee.” She says while wrapping her hands around her own mug. “Baking lessons, can’t say I ever gave them before but since I’m a teacher I think I can handle it.”

he laughed “i don’t need to take it back, it’s all true,” he grinned happily. he liked the easiness of the conversation, how light and friendly it was. he sippsed the coffee and nodded “i do,” he said. “I think you could do a good job, i think you’ll teach me how to bake in no time and we can sell great cookies.”

Jay chewed on the inside of his cheek as he thought that over. And a part of him knew he was being irrational. Knew it was stupid to be jealous over something like that. “I don’t know,” he murmured, because he truly didn’t know how else Hercules should have handled that.

he sighed “you have to know i wouldn’t cheat on you jay,” he said. “so, some guy was feeling my muscle, it doesn’t mean that he was even into me, maybe he was just dumbfounded at the fact that i’m super strong. don’t you have any trust in me?” he asked.

Leaving the topic alone as she so often did with those she didn’t wish to broach, she pushed it away, trying to hide it away along with all the other ugly truths that invaded her, that she tried to cover up with a light smile and pretty lies, that was all anyone ever wnatd to hear. A gulp hitting down her throat, she gave a slight nod, remembering the days when she wouldn’t, both as a hidden plea for attention, and other reasons. “Sure- That’d be- Nice. Yeah”. She was better, but always still haunted by her shadows.

hercules noticed her reluctance to go to eat, maybe he was being too pushy. he knew he could be overly friendly sometimes, but he liked meeting new people. especially here, it was so different from back home, he could really be himself and not have to worry about people judging him or frowning upon him for using his strength when really he’s not supposed to unless told to. “it will be okay,’ he said “in here,” he opened the door for her ”it has nice soups too,” he chuckled.

“They were hanging on you,” Jay said, a bit annoyed. “Using every bad excuse in the book to touch you and feel up your muscles, and I didn’t like it,” he admitted. “But you looked like you were having a grand old time. So I left.”

hercules sighed a bit, thinking back. he remembered that. “it was nothing,” he said to him “i helped him out with my strength and he couldn’t believe it,” he shrugged. “doesn’t mean anything,” he told him. “what am i supposed to be rude?” he asked.

“I don’t know maybe we just did become best friends,” Ella replied laughing while pouring the coffee into two mugs. One with just milk for her and one with milk and sugar for him. “There you go.” She says while handing him his cup. “You haven’t even tasted them yet! But if you want someone to learn you how to bake cookies I wouldn’t mind teaching you.”

“oh i think so,” he grinned. “it’s decided,” he laughed with ease. she was easy to talk to, fun to talk to and he liked that. sometimes forcing a conversation was so awkward but this was light and easy. “thank you i appreciate that,” he said taking a sip. “mm, this is good yeah,” he said enjoying it. “well, i can already tell by this coffee that they will taste good,” he said. “I’d love that,” he smiled.

“Perhaps, I’d say some are more interesting then others. I know a lot of people looked up at the castle and imagined it” never her, and yet she had been the one dragged into that life. “My true love” she agreed. “It has done it to everyone though, I do not understand it”. 

He nodded “well, you can’t help that, people are different right,” he said with a slight nod. he smiled at that “true love, wow, that exists where i’m from, true love, but it’s rare now, all our parents found true love, and we’re expected to but what is true love? how do you know?” he asked. “me neither.”

“that’s kind of a long story. i guess i just don’t like the taste of any drinks anymore. or food for that matter. there’s just one thing i need to survive.” he knew he sounded all mysterious, but he was afraid that once he told the truth, the guy would look at him weirdly or just walk off. or worse, try to kill him. “i always liked the caramel flavour. so no, you’re right.” he chuckled softly. “sorry, you’re like an exact copy of him. only you seem nicer. and you can actually smile. something i don’t see alec do often. or at all actually.” come to think of it, has he ever seen his friend smile? probably not. “hercules? jr? wait, are you like the son of the actual hercules? the demigod?” it was still strange that character from movies or stories he’s seen and read were actually real on this island. it was a lot to process but better to accept it than overthink it. “all the universes? that makes more sense. sort of.” shaking his head, he wouldn’t know what to do if he ran into someone wearing his face. “oh i’m simon. simon lewis.”

“that sounds like a long story,” he said. “one thing you need to survive. i will say it sounds like an interesting story, but i won’t press you or anything. seeing as we just met, it might be a bit odd,” he chuckled slightly. ‘“that’s cool though, it must suck a bit, not being able to really eat or drink the things you used to like,” he said softly. “am i?” he said. ‘well, not too exact if he isn’t nice or smiley. i’m definitely the opposite of that,” he said sipping his drink. hercules perked up though “yeah, i am, he’s my dad,” he smiled with ease. “thanks for asking, either people think it’s a story or they don’t know,” he chuckled. “I can easily say it’s all very real,” he said softly. “simon, nice to meet you man.’

Jay shifted. He didn’t deserve Hercules–not when he was being so nice to him after Jay was mad over something that was probably nothing. But the image came back into mind and he shook his head. “I saw you earlier. With someone.”

“with someone.. you make it sound like I was cheating or something,” he said not liking the insinuation. “can you be a bit more clear jay, i’m not going to do this dance back and fourth with you.”

Jay let out a long breath he didn’t know he had been holding when Herc came into the apartment. He loved his boyfriend. More than he ever thought he could love a person. But when he came inside, all he could think about was the other person with their hands on him. 

Jay had gotten better about talking about good feelings. But not the bad ones, so he just shrugged, still not looking at him. “Yeah, ‘m fine.”

Herc could tell when jay wasn’t fine, they had been together long enough to know their different emotions. he walked over and sat beside him “you’re not fine,” he said worried for him. “what happened? did someone piss you off today?” he asked wanting to make sure he was okay. he put his hand on his knee “talk to me.”

Moving in with his boyfriend was still fresh for Jay, and maybe that was why it had stung him a bit harder when he caught sight of him from far away. The guy was clearly hitting on Herc, using every excuse to touch him and his muscles. And Herc didn’t look like he was trying to stop him. Jay tensed, chewing on the inside of his cheek as he stormed back to their apartment. 

When Hercules got home, Jay was sitting on the couch, his knees curled to his chest as he typed away on his phone, the jealousy still churning in his chest.

Hercules had just been out for the day, running some errands and meeting up with friends. he had made a nice amount here, he liked being here. a boyfriend whom he cared for and friends who understood him. slightly. he was getting weary though, he wanted to just go home and relax and hang out with jay, maybe watch a movie. 

he finally got inside, “hey,” he smiled shutting the door. he looked at him, seeing him bound up in himself. “are you okay?”

“It’s always gonna be scary for me,” Jay admitted. “It’s just a symptom of being from the Isle. But you make me less afraid. You make me…stupidly happy.”

he smiled softly at his words “yeah,” he said ‘I know it’s scary but, having trust i me helps,” he said nodding. “you make me happy too.”

“I thought about it a lot,” he said, taking Herc’s hands in his. “This is…new and scary for me. But when I think about it…about us. I get more excited than I am scared.”

he linked their fingers and smiled a bit “i like that,’ he said ‘i don’t want to be scary for you. i worry about that all the time.”
