Hey, I’m Collie (not Collette—but sure, I’ll answer to it). West Coast Gen X, figuring things out one chaotic day at a time.

I’m a wife, a mom, and a writer grinding away at a book while life throws its usual curveballs. My cat, Toriel, runs the place—she knows it, I know it, and now you do too.

Lately, I’ve been digging through the past—uploading letters from my life, from childhood to adulthood. Letters my parents wrote to each other before I was even a thought. Letters from my grandma, old friends, maybe even an ex or two. It’s all raw, real, and a little voyeuristic in the best way.

I drop unfiltered glimpses of my world here—bits of writing, random thoughts, and the occasional existential crisis. No fluff, no pretense, just life in all its messy, weird, and unexpectedly beautiful moments.

A Day in The Life - Totally 80's, man! March 1, 1989 - Collie's Version

Dear GG,

Hello! Guess what? I'm home sick, and it's snowing again. It’s really a pain. We had a flag show last Saturday and took 2nd place. (of course, there was only one other corps (team) besides us.) We videotaped it, I’m getting a copy so I can send it to you. (within the next 2 weeks, I hope) 

The school play had to be delayed a week because of the January snow, I don't know what they're going to do now. My left wrist and my right-hand thumb are sprained from flag. I cannot believe it is snowing this hard again. It's actually one of first times that the weather man was right.

In 2 weeks our flag team is going to Canada for a show. I'm excited!  My friend Brian (a senior) is going on

a trip to Europe with the School (I wanted to go so bad) and I'm going to send some money with him and have him pick up some patches and stickers for me. If you could, could you please try to make a list of where we went? (The big places.) I can't remember all of them, and I don’t want to forget an imp-ortant place. The trip is during Spring Break. 

The flag team trip to California is during the first 4 days of S. break. Are you going to come see us? Everytime we have a show, we always pick up dinner at McDonalds or someplace & I'm getting really sick of it. So, for the rest of the trips I'm going to bring an ice- chest with my own food. The Captain of the team, Mandy, is going to share with me. they send everyone to McDon-ald's for lunch, so I've been bringing my own. I don't think that's very professional, because even the teachers go. I'm hopefully coming down for the summer. There's a few options on how to get there: (I have to pay for round-trip, so I'm looking for the least expensive.)

Darcy flies up + we ride the train or bus back down together, then Mom comes down

to visit in the beginning of Aug. and I ride back up with her.

 2) You two come up, I ride down with you and fly back up.

3) I fly down and back.

4) #1, except I fly back up (I want to stay as long as possible.)

get my 2 letters? I've driven twice in my driving class. I did great the 1st time, but the 2nd, I messed up once and the lady started yelling at me + would not stop, so eventually I was a nervous wreck and couldn't do anything right. She said if I didn't get any driving time at home, I'd fail + wouldn’t be able to get my license. Dad doesn't get home 'til after 5p, unless he works late. I have Drama after school every day until 4:30-5p. Sometimes a lot later (6:30) and Tues and Thurs I get home at 9:20p. On Saturdays, I have shows, and Sundays mom makes dad work on the house. I don't know what I am going to do. I guess I'll figure something out. Tell everyone I said hello, and I miss them. Everyone is fine here, write soon. I
