"The Kiss in Rolling Stone That Exploded an Entire Scene

In the spring of 2003, a photograph appeared in the pages of Rolling Stone and detonated something that had been quietly building for years across the interconnected worlds of punk and desert rock. The image showed Brody (Dalle) Armstrong, pressed close to a slightly stunned looking Josh Homme, Queens of the Stone Age, their bodies pressed close, her tongue between his barely parted lips. She was still legally married to Tim Armstrong when the photo ran. Tim saw it and, by his own account, cried. The divorce proceedings, already underway, became something uglier. Tim went public with his anger. What followed was a split that divided the entire underground music world into camps. Fans of Rancid sent death threats to Josh Homme. He later said he responded to the threats by essentially daring people to come find him. Meanwhile, something that nobody had quite anticipated was happening between Brody and Josh beneath all that noise. Being under siege together, having their safety genuinely threatened, pushed them toward each other. A kiss that divided a subculture became the foundation of a fourteen year marriage and three children. Source: History Beyond Time.
