“Am I even a person?” Erik murmured. He was a copy and a fake.
"Mm." His hum was a thoughtful one, eyebrows furrowing as he knelt down to the boy's eye level, "that openly depends. What, in your opinion, is a person?"

Send one of these in my askbox to see how my muse reacts
“Everyone ends up alone.” "Stay close to me." "We need to get away." "This is all for you.” "How could you be so heartless?" "There’s gotta be another way out." “I’ve tried forever getting out on my own.” “I don’t wanna fight alone anymore.” “I never thought you would really go.” “I was being such a fool.” “But I can’t live without you.” “If I wanted to leave I would have left by now.” "Don’t let me down.” “And now I’m feeling stupid.” “I’ll only stay with you one more night.” “What’s that supposed to mean?” “Can’t take it no more.” “I used to pretend that I felt okay.” “I’ve failed you again.” “God knows that I tried…” “I was dreaming for so long.” "You are the piece of me I wish I didn’t need.” “If our love’s insanity, why are you my clarity?” "We both know how this ends." “This is not what I do.” “Is that alright?” “Am I even human?” "I’m a mess." "At least I’ve always been myself.” “No one knows my heart.” “I don’t know what I’m doing.” “There is something that you need to let me know.” “Be honest please.” “Say you’ll stay.” "I’ll look after you." “I wasn’t looking for this.” "Here’s my number." “Where do you think you’re going, baby?” “I missed you so bad.” "You see?" "Come on let’s go and play!" “Be my baby.” “Don’t you ever say I just walked away.” “I will always want you.” “I never meant to start a war.” “I just wanted you to let me in.” “I guess I should’ve let you win.” "You make me crazy from happiness." "You’re my prince from the fairy tale." "Where do I go if you leave?" "I was afraid you don’t care about me." “I can’t forget you.” “I’m your destiny.” “You are like frost.” “We just have to wait until the next life.” "We need to talk." “Where did I go wrong?” "I lost a friend." “If I don’t say this now I will surely break.” “I’m losing my control.” “What’s mine is yours to leave or take.” “You’ve begun to feel like home.” “If that’s what you want…” “But I’m only human!” “I bleed…” "I can do it!" “Don’t let them in.” “Let it go.” "We only have each other." “Okay, can I just, say something crazy?” "We are meant to be."
I don't know if, while I was gone, other 616 Netos showed up, though I am going to rise to the t o p and nobody can stop me.
Uh. *Hides face* Who missed me?
Erik was slightly nervous. Though the man’s heart rate didn’t seem to change, there was something about the response he gave that didn’t sit right. Had he overestimated how safe he’d be here? Or was he just having a difficult time swallowing the idea of cloning? That seemed to be another thing that didn’t sit well with people. It wasn’t until the other started to speak that he began to think that he had.
"Pity no one else seems to know about the name change," he muttered. Wait. Was this? Could he be? He sure sounded like he was. "I’ve always wanted to meet him. Though I wish it was under slightly better circumstances. Getting caught in someone’s kitchen stealing food rarely makes a good first impression."
He tried to muster up a smile but instead it came out as a sort of grimace. He’d never really had much to smile about.
The fact that Max had a clone was still heavily in his thoughts. It meant that somebody had both a part of Max and the technology to create a being out of it. It left him with questions. Was Erik the only one? Were there more?
He could only guess.
"I can think of worse circumstances." With taut smile, Max held a hand out, voice not wavering in the least as he continued, "it wasn't even stealing. I had given you permission, after all."
"Erik Lehnsherr, according to my file, sir," he replied, hoping he wouldn’t get hit. People didn’t seem to like the man for some reason. In fact, they seemed to be rather frightened of him. Which, of course, meant he received quite a bit of the violence that was meant for the genuine article. "People don’t like him much, from what I’ve experienced."
He had a scar from a shot to the head, among others of varying severity, to prove that.
Max pressed his lips together, managing a slow, wordless nod. A small part of him had expected as much, that it was very much a possibility, but it nonetheless was surprising as much as it was concerning to hear.
Erik Lehnsherr. An alias of his. The boy was a clone of Max himself.
"You're right. He's a hated figure as much as he is feared," he began carefully, taking two steps back and resting a hand on the arm of the divan, the only notable piece of furniture in the room other than two worn chairs and a desk. "Though the name 'Erik Lehnsherr' is a rather dated one. He much prefers Max Eisenhardt."
"My name is Erik," he replied. His answer was slightly forced as if the name was still something new to him. "They want me to be a weapon. To hurt people. I don’t want to though. I want to help. To be something other than a…a clone. I want to be a person, too.”
As so often was the case when nervous, his silver medallion levitated out of his shirt and into his hand, where it stayed twisting through his fingers.
"Erik--" Just as he began to speak, to ask some other question, he stopped himself, watching the medallion float into the hands of the boy. Max had expected as much. The child was a mutant. A clone of a mutant, to be exact. Though, his mutation, his name, his appearance, all led to one question-- "A clone of whom?"
Magneto: Villain, Pariah, or Hero?
Lots of people forget or overlook the fact that Max began as and remains --for the most part-- a villain, solely because he's a well-developed character that is too difficult to be pigeonholed into one category or the other. Personally, I like sticking to Max's roots, that he is and always will be a not-good guy, and if he does act as a good guy, it doesn't last long. Maybe he's not a pure villain, but he is definitely not a hero, at least not in the typical sense, and it frustrates me to no end seeing people shove him more into the "hero" light with no real explanations as to why they think that. Don't get me wrong, I like Max. I love him as a character because he's complex and one of the most personally motivated characters I've seen for a long time. I love his humour, his ideals, basically everything about him, except for the new trend of making him a hero for hero's sake.
Let's go into Max's character a bit--
For one, he is a genius in engineering, physics, and genetics-- all self-taught. He's done awful, terrible, horrible things with those skills. Why? Maybe it's the unresolved PTSD and (likely) bipolar disorder (he fits that role very well according to the DSM-IV) taking a toll on his rationality and conscience, and perhaps also the reason Max has small spiels of goodness between committing huge crimes. Generally, he's an unhappy man on a mission to further the rights of mutantkind, and as good a deed as that may seem, his way of working to that is through violence that tends to be both excessive and occasionally even useless. Even now in his most recent appearances (specifically Magneto #1-10) that has not been lost. Max takes actions that are unnecessary to further himself along.
Often, especially since the 2000's, Max has more and more been played as a hero in some storylines. Many of those (New Mutants, Excalibur 2004) hadn't shown his complexity to its fullest extent. To make him purely a hero would be to lessen his ideas of what is important and what isn't, it would be excusing the damage he has done, and it would be erasing much of his character.
Remember, kids; Marvel needs villains, too.
"I ran away from my handler," he replied. ”I couldn’t take it anymore. If they find me I’m dead. I just need a place to hide for a little bit. Once they give up I’ll be gone. Until then you won’t even know I’m here. Promise.”
"Handler?" If he was going to allow this boy a place to stay, he wanted answers. The boy's name, his origin, who these 'handlers' were and why they wanted him so badly. Everything. For people to be chasing him and holding --to Max's knowledge-- the boy captive, he must be a person of great value. . . "And who are you, exactly?"
Erik didn’t need to be told twice. He quickly slipped inside going as far as he could into the house before turning to look back at Max. “Thanks.”
His handler would have his head if he were found.
He didn't reply to the thank-you, simply closing the door behind Erik. Here he was with someone whom he barely knew but welcomed into his house anyway. A change from their last encounter, yes, but still rather odd nonetheless. "Somebody is searching for you, I presume," Max asked, though it was phrased more as a statement than a question. "Should I be concerned?"
"Gave me food once. Need your help. Please?" Erik was out of breath and kept looking over his shoulder as if someone was after him.
A small pause, before Max nodded. Without another question or comment, he stepped to the side and held the door open, motioning for Erik to step inside.
"Have we met before?"
do you have iron in your blood?
I would hope so.
