Had a funny thought while struggling through a mechwarrior mission, loosing components here and there

You know the more I play Bethesda games the more I realize that they actually do think things through. You just need to dig to find their explanations. It’s not spoon fed to you during the main quest.

This could be seen as good or bad I guess. I don’t know how I feel about it.

But for example in fallout 4 people often criticize the railroad for having such a stupid password and being so easy to find but it makes more sense once you talk to some people and read some terminals because

1. Their old headquarters got attacked so recently that there’s still fresh corpses there and

2. Whenever their headquarters gets compromised they have a habit of falling back on a different safe house as their new headquarters

If you find this out it becomes pretty obvious that the old north church used to be the safe house where they made first contact with new recruits that made the effort to follow their clues of how to find them and they just moved in there and haven’t had the time to change their password and set up a different system for picking up new recruits.

You could argue that this subtle storytelling is fun. You could argue that maybe they should make explanations for things easier to find. Personally I’m of two minds about it because on one hand digging around for lore is fun and I don’t necessarily like being spoon fed everything. On the other hand though it seems like a majority of players haven’t pieced together this very simple explanation so like maybe they could make the answers to the big questions slightly easier to figure out.

Another thing. If you take the time to read the billboards around the commonwealth they refer to the rocket shape of the nuka cola bottles as a new shape.

In previous games nuka cola had a more traditional glass soda bottle shake but in fallout 4 they have a rocket shape.

They didn’t just leave that unexplained. Boston was the test market for a new bottle shape and the nuka girl space themed marketing campaign. They thought this through. They thought a lot of things through. You just really need to pay attention to realize it.

Then they try to hire mercenaries to fix the problem, only the mercenaries have also been reading the toxic-yuri, so you lose them to it too.

Then you decide 'fuck it, we'll invest in the wizard! the wizard is a lonely shut in and ain't getting any! they'll make us golems!'

And then you get an army of sexy golems, only the problem is, they too, will eventually read the toxic yuri, and your decadent magical civilization built on toxic yuri and golems doing all the real work will collapse once they start to engage in it too, and that's how you get monster invested dungeons and ancient magical ruins.

So for the love of god, just break the cycle. Hire some gay men to guard your bridges.
