It being a brand new sweater, Heehyun was being overly cautious with it, since she loved it so much. When the female went in for a hug of course she got a little protective over her sweater. Though she does return the hug. “Ah does it? You’re sure there’s no wrinkles?” She frowns looking down at her sweater.
Sungkyung narrowed her eyes at the comment before her bottom lip juts out in a slight pout. She is so finicky. “Yah why would I lie to you. You look nice in it.” Her pout faded into a happy grin. “Since you are here want to do something with me?”

“I don’t know where. I am sure we’ve never met before well personally were acquainted before.” She tilted her head a bit. “I mean unless you saw me in a drama. I mean if you watch dramas.”
Clean laundry but or perfume she uses a lot of scents that are light and fresh. Nothing that is too overpowering in smell. She is sensitive to smells and gets headaches easily. She enjoys floral scents with fruity undertones.
02. how they sleep (sleeping position, schedule, etc):
When she is not filming or on a normal day she sleeps by one am. She does this to avoid getting dark circles under her eyes. She will sleep through the night unless she is cold. Sunkyung cannot stand the cold so if her room is chilly she cannot sleep. If she is cold she sleeps for a bit then wakes up an hour or two later. This is a constant cycle until she has to wake up for work or because it’s time to get up. In the winter she uses two blankets. Usually she sleeps on her stomach with the blanket pulled up around her head like a cocoon. If she is sleeping in any place that’s not her bed like a car or a chair her face is usually against something ( wall the car’s seat, the car’s door, the back of the couch ) turned up and that’s how she sleeps. As long as she has something to cover her face and she is warm she will knock out easily.
03. what music they enjoy:
She listens to anything. From rap to classical music. She’s been around a bunch of a different styles since a young child. Recently she has enjoyed slower rnb music. Smooth sounding songs are her go to but she will listen and enjoy just about everything.
04. how much time they spend getting ready every morning:
She enjoys fashion it was one of the reasons she became a model. She takes about a half an hour to get ready. That includes picking her clothes out, doing her hair, and makeup ( though she doesn’t wear much. ). Her morning routine is mostly about skin care so that takes up a big chunk of her time.
05. their favorite thing to collect:
Perfume. She has a bunch and she keeps them on display proudly. The bottles is what draws her to them but also the scent of course. This collection is more of the visual aesthetic though.
06. left or right-handed:
Ambidextrous but uses her right hand to write.
07. religion (if any):
Protestant. She goes to church just about every Sunday. When she has time she is apart of a church group called JOY ( Joy Overflows You. ). Also she participates in the choir when she can.
08. favorite touristy thing to do when traveling:
Taking pictures are a must. Showing off the places she is going and visiting art galleries. Also shopping. Getting clothes from a different country show how different fashion trends are from Korea. Fashion is a big part of her life so she makes it a point to pick up different items unique to the places she has been.
09. favorite kind of weather:
Sunny weather where there is a nice breeze and their are enough clouds in the sky so that the sun is not burning you up.
10. a weird/obscure fear they have:
Texture of things. I guess it’s not a fear but it does freak her out. Like texture of food and skin. Just that.
Throughout your career, have you ever had to deal with sasaeng fans? If ‘yes’, please give us an account of your experience. If ‘no’, why do you think you have yet to have an encounter?
“I haven’t had that experience thankfully.” She raked her mind for a few seconds lips pursed in deep thought. why do you think you have yet to have an encounter? The reason she hasn’t had one was something something she didn’t know. Even after gaining popularity it hasn’t happened, not like she wanted it to. “I don’t think I am at the status where I would have sasaeng’s. I hope that I never get any in the future but it happens to everyone I guess.”
Besides being an idol, you also have your personal life to think about. Have you ever felt as if certain affairs(dating, family, privacy, personal relationships) were at risk of sasaeng intervention because of your status as an idol?
“This is something I’ve never thought about honestly speaking. I don’t think I am above sasaeng’s potentially invading my privacy and crossing the line but as I said before I don’t think I am at the status for them to do so.”
Many fans shun sasaengs and believe that they aren’t true fans due to their obsessive, sometimes violent nature. What about you? Do you consider them to be true fans?
“I think they are fans but just deeply, deeply disturbed. I think obsession is a twisted form of being a fan. I consider them fans. They support their idol by buying their things and being at concerts but I think they take it too far. I think they believe that they are entitled to their idols attention which is not the case. When they don’t get this attention that’s when they display sasaeng behaviors. I don’t think what they do is right but yes, I consider them fans. I don’t know what a ‘true’ fan is but yes fans.”
Many say that idol interaction is the reason why sasaeng culture is so prevalent. Because many often prioritize their fans on TV, saying that they love them, some people (ie sasaeng fans and regular fans alike.) misinterprets this and therefore feel angry when their idol is thought to be dating. Are you guilty of being that kind of idol? If not, do you feel that it is the idol’s fault for selling a unattainable fantasy?
“I have said I love my fans. I mean who doesn’t love their fans. If you didn’t have fans then you wouldn’t be the person you are today. I don’t think telling your fans you love them is selling an unattainable fantasy. Saying that your fans are your girlfriend or boyfriend. I think that gives them the idea that having you is enough and that you won’t date in the future which is not true. That’s what breaks their heart. Not telling them you love them. It’s unrealistic that you won’t date of have romantic feelings for anyone. I’ve seen people’s significant other’s be attacked by “fans” who think that they were seduced especially female idols. The unattainable fantasy is telling them that they are your significant other. I guess it’s a fan service but fans and sasaengs alike both go after these significant others. I don’t blame the idol because they do it to make their fans happy.It’s just unfortunate I guess.”
Some sasaeng fans just want to be noticed. Can you offer a healthier form of expression for them to practice to get your attention in particular?
“Getting my attention is easy. I like sweet gestures like handmade gifts, letters, hand drawn photos or just something that someone took thought into showing me. Those types of gifts are the most memorable to me.” She paused taking a moment to think before continuing. “Also buying items that I have modeled for. I guess for me it’s easy to get noticed. Even just showing up at my events. I really love interacting with my fans and often when I get busy on projects it’s hard to do so but when I tell them and they say “I understand.” I’ll remember that. It’s touching. They care about you as a person.”
Getting gifts from fans can be exciting, especially for rookies because it makes us realize that our fans have come to love us enough to where they gift us things. However, Sasaengs take it to a whole other level. Has there even been a time where you have received a rather questioning gift from a fan?
“God no. I would remember if I had trust me. Speaking of remembering bad gifts this is not something you want to be remembered by. The memory attached to a fan after sending weird gifts it often not a good one. I know some people don’t care about that but they should. If they love and look up to their idol then they don’t want to be remembered with a negative encounter, gift, or anything else along with that.”
Sasaengs’s are known for stepping over boundaries and exploiting private life of idols. Even going as far as to breaking into someone’s living quarters. Has there been a recent even that has occurred to either you, or someone you know? How was it handled?
“The closest thing I’ve had to a sasaeng experience is when Shinhye told me someone broke into her apartment when we were filming. They just stole a bunch of her things that she had gotten from fans that she left out on display. They also took some of her other personal trinkets. Obviously they were her fan and not a random burglar because they would have stolen things much bigger.” She shudders at the thought of someone taking her items. “I moved into a building with an outside security code to get into the building recently. Despite never having anything like that happen it makes me feel more comfortable that they would at least have to break the code to even get into my building.”
Managers can usually come off as being too harsh to fans - and many might suggest that the reason they are protective and harsh when it comes to protecting Idols is because of sasaeng fans. Do you agree with their methods? Is there any other protecting method you would like to suggest to your managers?
“I don’t think they are too harsh. If a sasaeng wants to do something that may potentially harm or scar an idol in order to make that interaction memorable they have to get through their manager. The managers know this so it doesn’t matter if the fan is one with good intentions or not they are all treated the same. Is it fair? No but I understand where they are coming from. Their actions are to protect them and make sure they are safe. They are your manager and your bodyguard in a way. I think my manager does a good job so I don’t want to tell them how to do their job.”

She held her chest her heart beating what felt like 100 miles an hour to her. Seungri clearly looked amused by she was feeling quite the opposite but all she could manage was a flabbergasted scoff. It’s usually the body’s way of telling you to take a break.” She laughed sitting up straight noting that he was probably referring to her half asleep as she listened to him talk. “I like it though. I might start using it. I am not telling you to go away though. I guess it’s my body telling me right now that I need some coffee in me.”
