Marceline, I can feel myself slipping away.
I can’t remember what it made me say,
but I remember that I saw you frown,
I swear it wasn’t me, it was the crown. (x)
Even though he seems like a psychotic, girl-obsessed, attention grabbing, bumbling old fool.. He still had a human sense of why he’s been acting like this all this time. He had a tragic past and it wasn’t his fault why that’s the way he is right now. Poor, Simon… His mind was slipping away because of that crown. And because of that, he completely forgot who he was once before and drove him to the edge of insanity which driven him mad. Even though the crown kept him alive all these years, he used it in purpose to save Marceline from being alone in a post-apocalyptic wreckage of the world. But he knew that he’ll suffer in a permanent Alzheimer’s-Dementia-like sickness by keeping his crown. So by saying to forgive him when he doesn’t remembers anything means he completely forgotten who he was. And before his mind deteriorate, he had his last final human thoughts and sanity of bringing back his old beloved.
Man, for a kid’s show with a bunch of random and silly things, it has it’s moments when things get really deep and why most of them are acting in these kind of behavior. It really defines it's unusualness of this cartoon show since every story has their reason. And now, I understand his legacy. And this episode enriched his tragic story even further. This was a real tearjerker because I can’t help but just feel so sorry for him…
