more now i want to talk about the constant harassment, the sexual assault and violence, and the straight up bullying and sabotaging that women in trades experience. especially women of color, especially lesbians, & trans women. hr does nothing to protect them. instead yr told to have "thick skin" to work in the fields, like getting assaulted on the job is normal; but only for women? a 20yo welder in Minnesota was just murdered by her coworker because he "didn't like her." her story of being ignored until the worst happens is too common in this field. women in trade are bullied or harassed out of their places of work by coworkers, customers, their stations and tools are sabotaged by their men colleagues, they're overlooked, underpaid, or ignored for jobs, we're made to feel unsafe by them until the only thing you can do is leave. very little has changed in the trades for years. please listen to tradewomens stories more than ever.

We are heartbroken to share the loss of our beloved, Amber Czech. She was taken from us far too soon … Shawn Labat needs your support for Am

transfem puppygirl who doesn’t feel comfortable going into the men’s restroom, and worries she doesn’t pass enough to go into the women’s restroom. suddenly she understands why so many other puppies simply choose to piss on the fire hydrant.

it's kind of crazy how utterly assimilated the LGBT movement is into liberal politics and how much it aligns itself with the logics of capitalism, to the point where it's not even a proper political movement anymore, it's a Community® now that is held together with various commodified identiy signifiers. we have to make five billion flags and micro-labels (to make more flags) and buy Gay Product and consume Designated Gay Media* and support Queer Business as the pinnacle of activism. we need to get the stupid shark plushie, made by the company that is actively helping the rapid destruction of old growth forests in my home country, and make it part of our identiy. buy your identity in stores today!
and that's not even mentioning the role of assimilated LGBT politics in aiding imperialism accross the world. all of these western-backed NGOs in various countries, sucking up any local gay and trans politics into a black hole of hand-me-down politics from the US. and how many western gays AREN'T homonationalists when it comes down to it? how many western gays haven't said some line about the homophobic muslims or russians or whoever is the target at the time? how many haven't aspired to prove their worth by joining the imperialist war machine?
and all that... and yet gay and trans people are still treated like dogshit in the west. any minuscule progress made is quickly reversed at a moments notice. trans women are still the laughingstock and boogeyman of the western world.
we cannot liberate ourselves with aesthetics and commodity consumption and supporting the correct businesses and occasionally voting for a liberal politician. we cannot create a useful model for gay and trans politics through liberal idealism. we need a materialist and internationalist approach. desperately.
*the Designated Gay Media in question also almost always some bullshit produced in the US that has a complete absence of transfem characters or has very obvious transmisogynistic caricatures
tying a health insurance ceo to a chair inside a wet and scary room and calmly explaining to him while sharpening a machete that even from the inhuman perspective of a parasitic penny-pinching profit-driven bloodsucking little worm like himself it will surely save money in the long run to pay for the medication that might prevent someone from requiring surgery in the first place rather than deny the coverage only to later have no choice but to pay for the surgery anyway but he is unable to conceive of money leaving his pockets for any length of time as anything other than the worst most evil torture imaginable so i am forced to behead him just to make him stop crying and begging me to keep my hands out of his pockets
working in industry does sort of feel like being in the cult of a machine god. like my entire livelihood depends on the day to day functioning of this deeply esoteric machine - there’s one guy on site who mostly knows how it works and a handful of guys in the whole company who deal with the things directly. you can’t google anything about it - any helpful information is buried in service manuals thousands of pages thick and illegible to the VAST majority of people, even our own staff who work with the things every day.
if something goes wrong i’m begging the tech priest to come and figure it out because without him everything screeches to a halt.
you get it.

Went to the Aboriginal artifact exhibit in Chicago. And it’s interesting. How many blankets and masks and totem poles say ‘unknown source’, because every five seconds my mom would stop and point to something and say. “Pauline’s grandmother made that,” or, “That belongs to Mike’s family, I should call him” because. It’s all stolen
“These artifacts were excavated by archaeologists from a burial site in the 1970’s. The remains were returned for reinterment” Okay cool, cool cool. So you just, like. Dug up the grave of a respected family member, stripped them naked, mailed their body back to their family and kept everything they were lovingly put to rest in. Like a graverobbing bastard
Reminds me of the time when of the elders from my hometown started touching a totem pole in the Museum of Anthropology out at UBC and got yelled at by the staff, only to tell him that the pole had been stolen off of the front of her bighouse when she was ten years old.
Museum collectors did the equivalent of kidnapping a family member when they were away fishing.
The Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act requires all institutions that receive federal funding to repatriate remains and artifacts so if you can identify the source of something on display absolutely get a hold of that institute’s repatriation office
LAND BACK LAND BACK LAND BACK
@isuggestlandback will probs say something more coherent on the matter but LAND AND PROPERTY BACK THAT CULTURE IS NOT A MUSEUMS ~ancient mysterious art piece~ ITS SOMEONES SHIT!!
That pretty much says it all tbh
