A Hobbit’s Tale, by Bilbo Baggins
Me: I like that
Me: *looks at price tag*
Me: I don't like that anymore
Don’t wait. Writers are the only artists I know of who expect to get somewhere by waiting. Everyone knows you have to dance to be a dancer, you have to sing to be a singer, you have to act to be an actor, but far too many people seem to believe that you. don’t have to write to be a writer. So, instead of writing, they wait. Isaac Asimov said it beautifully in just six words: “It’s the writing that teaches you.” Writing is what teaches you. Writing is what leads to “inspiration.” Writing is what generates ideas. Nothing else-and nothing less. Don’t meditate, don’t do yoga, don’t do drugs. Just write.

Instead of yelling BOO this Halloween, yell something even scarier, like COMMITMENT or STUDENT LOANS

“I never asked – never wanted – to be Captain America. But that mask, those stars and stripes, that shield…theychange you. I can see now the burden that Steve’s always carried. And it feels strange to admit I want that burden back… But underneath it all, what I really know is…I want to deserve it…somehow.”
You are too generous to trifle with me. If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes are unchanged; but one word from you will silence me on this subject for ever.
And if you’re upset because I put gay characters and a gay protagonist in the book, I got nothing for you. Sorry, you squawking saurian — meteor’s coming. And it’s a fabulously gay Nyan Cat meteor with a rainbow trailing behind it and your mode of thought will be extinct. You’re not the Rebel Alliance. You’re not the good guys. You’re the fucking Empire, man. You’re the shitty, oppressive, totalitarian Empire. If you can imagine a world where Luke Skywalker would be irritated that there were gay people around him, you completely missed the point of Star Wars. It’s like trying to picture Jesus kicking lepers in the throat instead of curing them. Stop being the Empire. Join the Rebel Alliance. We have love and inclusion and great music and cute droids.
Chuck Windig, author of the newest Star Wars tie-in novel, to people who’re pissed about the book having a gay protagonist. (via trilies)
