Just kidding, I didn't even go.
I pretty much spent my weekend recovering from the horrible week that consisted of finals. I know that I blog a lot about school and how much it's killing me because of how difficult it is, but I cannot stress enough how important it is to always challenge your mind. Higher education is important and knowledge is power. And lastly, nothing will ever come easy in life.
Now, I'm not telling everybody that they have to go to college because you don't. If you already know what it is that you want to do in life and college isn't involved, then don't go. I know that I don't need a college degree in order to make YouTube videos and to blog about what products that I like, but I do need a bachelor's in either English or Journalism in order to become a beauty editor at any magazine, which is what my dream job/life goal is. I knew that in order to reach my ultimate goal, I needed to get that college education… and that's why I decided to come back to UCSB after a four year absence.
If anyone reading this is on the fence about returning back to a classroom, weigh your options. Are you going because you're bored and you miss school? Or are you going because you need to go in order to pursue a dream?
Trust me, I had contemplated going back to school for what seemed like an eternity, simply because I was so embarrassed to tell people that I was a college drop out. There isn't really anything wrong with it, but the reason why was because I wasn't doing anything awesome with my life. If I dropped out of school to become an assistant to some prestigious make up artist in Hollywood, then I'd have no problem telling anyone that I dropped out of school… but its't the fact that I was sitting in a windowless building for 8 hours a day and having orders barked at me every once in a while. I wasn't happy with my life.
After discovering a love and passion for cosmetics, I became a make up artist and started practicing make up on whoever I could. I would charge dirt cheap or practically nothing for weddings because I needed the practice and the experience, and as the famous saying goes, "practice makes perfect." Soon, I would realize how much I loved to write. I write everyday, I still do, whether it's in this blog, for school, my journal in my room, or my private blog, because it's therapy for me. Being able to transfer my thoughts onto another medium gives me satisfaction and a peace of mind that nothing else can bring me. After realizing that maybe I had a talent for this, it hit me that my calling in life was to become a beauty editor. Although extremely challenging, I told myself that this is what I needed to do as my profession and after some research, I found out that I needed a bachelor's in English. It was almost like a sign from up above telling me that choosing to be an English major was the right choice and for some weird reason, I feel like it was planned…
Anyway, the point of this blog post is to tell anyone out there that you don't need to go to school and get a Harvard education in order to become successful, but you should always challenge yourself to make yourself better than you were yesterday. Don't get comfortable and don't stay stagnant! Get up and do something and make your dreams happen!
