wish Nikki is an example of the "born sexy yesterday" trope done right.

this trope has its roots in deeply misogynistic movies where a female character (who is often not a human, but an alien or robot) displays childlike behavior while also being extremely physically attractive.

this leads to a very questionable "romance" between her and the big strong man who either lies to her, manipulates her or coerces her into doing things she wouldn't do if she were not written to be so innocent.

wish Nikki fits this criteria, but this time it's a critique of rape culture and incels.

wish Nikki is very much like a child in a woman's body — from her speech patterns, her whiny tantrums and frown down to her defecating and throwing up on herself when Bear wasn't home.

and yet, you can see the drastic shift in the way she dresses. real Nikki was shown to be wearing an oversized jacket and shorts while wish Nikki's clothes get more and more revealing and male-gazey. she is basically the fantasy of every man who wrote and directed those old movies with the the "born sexy yesterday" trope.

If I ever refer to a character I like in MHA, please assume that it's my headcanonned version of that character where they're actually a good character that wasn't trashed by the creator.

For example, I love Izuku. He's not close friends with Bakugo in my head. To me, he's closer to Todoroki. Then TogaOcha, they have a well built relationship instead of the just good moment in the final season.

I love them but I wouldn't want them to be canon or force people to think as such. I just like seeing them together because I really hate the lack of potential between the two. They also have a special place in my heart for always making me cry.

Characters being horrible isn't the issue; the issue is that creators sometimes avoid holding them accountable for their actions because of personal favoritism. Watching characters act like assholes can be frustrating when the cast stays passive and does nothing about it. In some cases, the cast never fully acknowledge that the asshole is a terrible person; instead, they treat them as if they were far better than they actually are, showering them with undeserved kindness and support.

Creators will also vilify other characters for being rightfully angry, even forcing those characters to apologize despite not being in the wrong. When they’re desperate for you to like them, they’ll shove their trauma in your face in a poor attempt to make you care about them out of pity instead of making them an enjoyable, well-written character.

When you have characters who are assholes and do terrible shit, then properly hold them accountable for it instead of twisting up your story so they get off with little to no consequences.
