this is a bit of a weird post, kind of a reflection for myself... 

It’s great how much I have changed for the good and positive in certain aspects of my life within the last year. I mean i’m a lot healthier and into fitness, something I never thought would be a huge part of my lifestyle. I have cut a lot of toxic people out of my life even that I thought were a good influence in my life. The thing that makes me quite sad though that I try to ignore quite often is how little I genuinely practice music anymore (excluding teaching). It’s definitely not something I have fallen out of love with and every time I find something from my musical past it makes me yearn to be that good and that into it again though I just fail to do so. Tonight it has really gotten to me though for some weird reason. Music was literally every single part of my soul just over a year ago and now it’s something i’ve put on the back burner for no real reason? I mean I was getting decent gigs (and well paid ones at that) then all of a sudden I just stopped?!?!  I was really on a roll and I look back now and I have really let myself down. That girl is still inside me and yearns to come out but I find it weird to have this balance between fitness girl and musical me. I don’t know how/why I am struggling with the balance. This year has brought out a lot of things that I needed to fix within myself and I always use song writing as a mechanism to express myself and to create but that never even happened. It’s really sad. I think I might be scared of being as arty as I used to be because I do not surround myself with as like minded people anymore. My boyfriend and his friends are very into sport and fitness. I mean my boyfriend also enjoys some music i’m into but it feels like I have given up on being that part of myself because he’s not as overly interested and I don’t have someone to fully share that with me. I am not saying in any way or form that he is not supportive of my music and my talents OR of my interests but it’s just not the same? It’s not like I haven’t stopped being myself but I haven’t nurtured that side of myself or allowed that side of myself to flourish in such a long time

me: [wakes up] me: brooklyn nine-nine is a show that airs on fox and stars two black men in leading positions, one of whom is the captain of the precinct and is gay but is never made fun of for this by the characters or by the show. the other is physically intimidating but is a loving father and the sweetest guy you’ll ever meet. there are also two latina women as police detectives who are nuanced and fleshed out and never conform to stereotypes. all three starring women have totally different personalities but support each other through everything. the show repeatedly calls out racism, homophobia, sexism, and (on one occasion) transphobia. the ‘nice guys finish last’ trope was smashed to pieces in the first season with said ‘nice guy’ owning up to and apologizing for his behavior. jake peralta (who should be your typical White Dude Lead) is explicitly a feminist and once punched a homophobe in the face. what a miracle. i will never forget this gift thank you mike and dan
