(Most of the images were already uploaded before on my Instagram and X art accounts!) MERCYTALE was born when I re-joined the Undertale fandom after YEARS. Ever since Undertale AUs started to get popular, my dream as a kid was to create my own universe, but very honestly I had 0 ideas of what to come up with. I've always been a very nostalgic person, remembering things that can't really go back to what they were, and since I bought Undertale for the very first time at the beginning of 2026, why can't my AU be about these feelings? I just know there are people out there who feel the same way, really. So, MERCYTALE has a very simple story: the player who comes back over and over again because Undertale was (and still is) a very strong game that left a deep mark on who they (you) are now, but they don't have the courage to end a Genocide Route and end up RESETting and doing a True Pacifist every time. But as we know: every action has its own consequences. The thought of endless Genocide Routes (or No Mercy Routes as I saw people referring to it around the internet recently)* that can wear down someone who is conscious (Sans with Dusttale) got me thinking: what about endless True Pacifists Routes? Just because we're the "goodie two shoes" doesn't mean those "kind" actions can't exhaust someone, right? I didn't see people doing and talking about stuff like this (but there probably are) since the Geno always seemed more "fun" to work with back in 2015-2017. I'm currently just scrolling through UTDT art nowadays and don't really watch videos anymore. There are still a lot of lore to catch up with, both from Undertale and Deltarune...
*It's been forever since I last saw something Undertale-lore term related and back in 2015 I was playing Stronger Than You everyone's response in loop, so I'm not really sure if it existed back then
MERCY!Frisk was actually my very own OC for Undertale... But since I didn't want to use the original FRISK's model for the AU, my very first Undertale OC was the perfect candidate! That's why their SOUL is a faded DETERMINATION SOUL (it was a cool concept ok, please don't judge...). I really love original Frisk's classic color pallete and design, they're my favorite character since 2015, so the blue sweater stayed...
Our (yes, OUR) releationship with Flowey in some early concept work was supposed to be funny. We're not really friends and not really enemies either, after all as Asriel, Flowey wanted this: an endless play time with his best friend CHARA, not us, sure. But does it matter if he just... Forgets about that part once we RESET?. Oh, yes, I love the idea of CHARA being a constant ghost beside FRISK, but in MERCYTALE it doesn't really suit, so it was completly scrapped.
Asriel is also one of the very few characters that got a redesign. He went through a LOT of True Pacifists and is getting harder to forget every time he turns into his real form.
