project hail mary is actually so so amazing for the aroace community . good god . i cant think of recent representation better than dr ryland grace .

grace is not completely romance repulsed , we know he has had at least 1 relationship before . this is great ‘not every aro person is romance repulsed’ rep .

sex isnt really brought up in the film besides the karaoke party , but it can be inferred that grace isnt interested . thats cool ! hes not grossed out or super into it he just doesnt really get the appeal , especially when there are more interesting and important things happening .

i like that grace isnt completely sex and romance repulsed . a lot of aroace rep gets stuck on that ; thinking that aroace people cant have relationships ever , romantic or sexual .

i also really enjoy that the main draw of grace and rockys relationship is their friendship . i like that peoples first reaction to these two isnt automatically putting them in a romantic relationship , but enjoying their platonic friendship .

the only glaring flaw i see in this representation is that grace is an aloof nerd type , which tends to get negatively stereotyped as aroace . though i dont find this too much of an issue with grace ? hes not all that standoffish . he works with kids , he is chatty and sociable and is a functioning adult around other adults . hes very smart , but he isnt an asshole or a freak nobody wants to interact with . hes a little awkward sometimes , but he is an adult who can be around and form connections with other adults . he is clearly neurodivergent , which is a whole nother can of worms , but my point is that hes aroace not because nobody wants him , but because he doesnt want anybody . you know what i mean ?

while i have seen ship art of grace and rocky (and grace with others) , it is definitely the minority to aroace grace . the community is largely for aroace grace . this is just so against the norm of people either fighting against aroace characters , or just ignoring their existence . aroace grace is widely recognized and accepted . this kind of acceptance and embracing of aromanticism and asexualism just warms my heart .

For every Christian and Catholic expressing how relieved they are that Wake Up Dead Man portrayed Father Jud as a "true embodiment of faith", I need you to be as loud as him. Take up as much space as he did. Be as insistent as he was.

I need you to not forget that in almost every room he was in, he was the exception, not the rule, and that was the point of his character. From the beginning of the movie he was told "we need more people like you" it was a call to action, not a pat on the back.

syrils death was so anticlimactic compared to the others, and that’s saying a lot for Andor. Dedra didn’t see his body fall, Cassian didn’t remember who he was. Just another face in the massacre and if he hadn’t seen Cassian he probably would’ve survived, and come a lot closer to maybe not a redemption, but a grayer area of deflection from the empire and it’s definitely intentional having his story end like that. We’ll never see how Gorman’s massacre would’ve affected him in the long run. He’s another imperial worker just.. gone. And that’s that. And it’s so interesting to me that they showed him having that POTENTIAL to change, that massacre having such an impact on him, having Dedra and the empire LIE so boldly to him like that, and he was about to change, but he saw Cassian, fought, and died. Because that’s how it is in a war. It’s death, on both sides, and there is no changing that.

I think that "Andor is a show about the stupid, pointless, and unremembered deaths that happen in service of a rebellion and Vel and Cinta are not treated any differently than say, Brasso and Talia" and "It's shitty that specifically the only queer relationship got significantly less screen time than other straight relationships before being killed off" are both true.

In a vacuum, looking solely at the show itself, Cinta's death is perfectly tragic and on-theme, but when looking at the surrounding context of the lack of representation in media and especially in Star Wars, her dying minutes after their first on-screen kiss is at best in poor taste.
