Did you know that all lead singers… are blind and smoke cigarettes. Can’t see the audience. Have no idea what… You know this is all… sort of abstract concept to me, really. It’s theory. This is absolute theory because… I actually can’t see more than than about ten foot, so … *shrugs* I haven’t seen more than about ten foot since about, oooh, ‘78. And I never knew I couldn’t see, and I got my eyes tested once and I was actually blind. I thought everyone saw like that. I got contact lenses and was like “wow! Trees have leaves from 100 foot!” and all that other stuff. And I lay down in a park and cried, it was a beautiful experience. And then I wrote lots of poetry about trees and leaves and then… and then I did a concert and, um… it terrified me. I could see them. You know, they do this, they go… *yawns* and -whispers- “let’s go.” And all this sort of shit. Or, brrr *flips the bird.* So I took my contact lenses out onstage and I’ve never worn them since. I’m not… I mean, I wear prescription glasses and stuff but… I haven’t seen an audience for a good ten years. It’s my secret. If I see that fucking audience out there, I fucking run!
