iâve been an army and a bts stan for years now and it hurts to see how much we care about sales and âoutsellingâ other groups. i donât think being a fan of any group should be about streaming or about how much of an album is sold, but about the music.
it just hurts to see how much armys have pushed aside the accomplishments and success of other groups because bts is the biggest rn. bts are friends with these other groups, they applaud and respect them, and listen to them. i donât see why we have to go out of our way to comment thing like âbts paved the wayâ or âbts outsold ___â under the accomplishments of another group.
armys are supposed to be about love and support, and all of my timeline is belittling and undermining others. it makes me miss the old kpop days.
and iâm so sorry if this seems extremely generalized. bts will forever hold a special place in my heart, taehyung is my ult of ults, and i will never hate them or army. i know army who are so amazing, and kind and congratulate other artists. but just go on twitter, or look through youtube comments, youâll see what iâm talking about.
these are just my thoughts. i miss the old times when it wasnât about how many sales and whatnot. i just want to enjoy the music, along with other kpop groups music too.
i have talked about this before through reblogs but i wanted to create my own discussion. my first language is not english, so please correct my grammar if need be.
culture appropriation. it is usually linked with disrespect or belittling a culture or cultureâs traditions. this includes hairstyles, clothing, practices, etc.
personally, i find it endearing when someone outside of my culture or race tries to embrace something that isnât theirs. not everyone will agree with me, but i believe we should be happy that we have made it this far culturally and racially for them to want to embrace our culture.
in my opinion, i believe that culture appropriation should be classified in levels. if there is no disrespect (as in, someone wearing a hairstyle without knowing the proper history behind it), we should do our best to remind them where their styling came from and why it isnât a good choice in doing so without knowing the past. thereâs no need for nasty messages or death threats. but, if someone is doing something intentionally racist and offensive (as in, wearing an indian headdress and purposely mocking their customs), it deserves a bigger reaction and actually probably cancelation as well.
i just think that anyone who doesnât intentionally disrespect or mock a culture, they should get the benefit of the doubt. itâs 2019 and our first objective shouldnât be to riot against someone who is ignorant of the past.
i donât know if my thought process was explained well. i hope it was.

there is a difference. although the line is very thin, and some might confuse the two. instead of cancelling/bashing someone immediately for doing something they genuinely think is cool or beautiful, educate them on the past history of the look.

if someone is doing something they believe to be a way of embracing a culture or because they feel as though they want to learn more and appreciate the culture, educate them on the past history behind it. itâs more than likely they donât know. wearing a hairstyle once without understanding the history behind it shouldnât mean they get bashed or sent death threats when they actually only thought it was a hairstyle.
yes, it shouldnât be our job to educate those who do such things. but at the same time, if they werenât being disrespectful or mocking the culture, itâs obvious they arenât trying to be rude or belittle said culture. this is when itâs time to educate them, as they more than likely donât know the significance.
culture appropriation vs culture appreciation. shouldnât you be happy someone outside of your own culture is trying to embrace it? shouldnât you be flattered someone is trying to immerse themselves into a culture they donât know/want to know about? a lot of us have the pleasure of grow up in diverse countries & have the knowledge and understanding that those who didnât lack. think of it this way before attacking.
update: this is not specifically about chan of stray kids. this is about everyone and anyone accused of culture appropriation & sent terrible messages and death threats. no one deserves that.

summary: in university, students have tough times. through smiles and love, there is also heartache and stress. two best friends falling for the same girl is also a stressor.
The house smelled of alcohol and smoke. Everyone had disappeared, scattered to their own dorms or passed out somewhere in one of the rooms. The once loud music was off. It was the aftermath of a typical Friday night.
Red solo cups laid everywhere, along with spilled mixtures of various drinks. The table in the living room was upside down. Things were scattered everywhere. It was as though they tried to make the worldâs largest mess.
Hansol slowly gained consciousness, blinking as he lifted his eyelids in the morning sun. His head pounded with last nightâs alcohol. Groaning, he cracked his neck.
A body stirred next to him. He hadnât realized he wasnât wearing any clothes, or that his arm was underneath a body. Hansolâs head filled with confusion, but only for a moment, when he realized just who was under his arm.
âJesus, Hansol, your morning breath is awful.â you told him.
He just looked down at you. His fingers found themselves in your hair, down your back. You traced his collarbone with your thumb tiredly.
You and Hansol had been friends since the beginning of the year. The story wasnât anything spectacular; you were the best friend of Xu Minghao, and so was he. And eventually, you found yourselves tangled in each otherâs bodies.
It had become a common thing at that point. You could never tell Minghao, for various reasons. It was a rule of their fraternity not to associate sexually with friends, sisters, or exes of any of the guys. Hansol broke that rule nearly every week.
âGo get dressed, Iâll tell the guys you passed out on my floor or something.â he told you, pulling himself up to find some clean clothes.
You smirked, climbing to your knees to hug him against his bare back. He closed his eyes when he felt your breasts poking him. You placed a kiss to the underneath of his ear.
âOne time before we leave?â you mumbled as you ran your hands down his chest.
âTheyâll hear us. We canât get caught, love.â he mumbled back, but you heard his voice shake.
You nipped at his neck, leaving small pecks of what could be marks behind. His breath stuttered when you kissed one of the hickeys you had inevitably gave him the night before.
âTheyâre probably still asleep.â you said in between kisses. âPlease, just one more time...â
He turned around. You were still sitting on the bed, now looking up at him before you. He leaned down and pressed a chaste kiss to your forehead.
âNot now, Minghao would kill us if he found out.â Hansol gave you another kiss, this time on your lips. âGet dressed, sweetheart.â
You pouted as you chased his lips for another kiss. He only smiled down at you as he pulled on his pants. You slowly got up and stretched.
Hansol pulled on his shirt as he opened the door. âCome downstairs later, okay? The boys will be pissed if you donât help clean.â
âI know, I know.â
You searched for your clothes as he closed the door behind him. Walking to the living room, Hansol was greeted with the sight of hungover boys and some girls leaving to their walk of shame home.
He had to jump over Junhui, who was asleep on the stairs, and walk past Chan, who was just waking up on the counter in the kitchen. What the fuck could have went down in one night?
Chan sat up and rolled his shoulders in attempt to crack his back. He was obviously confused as to how he managed to sleep on the kitchen counter, looking on either side as though it would help him remember. Pain shot through his head.
Hansol chuckled at the grimace on Chanâs face. He reached in the refrigerator and handed his friend a water bottle.
âIf I knew I would wake up every weekend with a headache and throw up on my chest, I wouldnât have joined the fraternity.â Chan mumbled, taking a sip of the water.
Hansol chuckled again. âItâs the best part of university and you know it. Go get dressed so we can start cleaning.â
Chan jumped up from the counter, taking a second to regain his balance on the ground. He looked at his best friend, memories of the night before resurfacing.
âYou were with a girl last night.â he told him, making Hansol choke on his water.
âNo I wasnât.â he lied.
âYes you were, I remember seeing the back of you guys going into your room, and moans later.â he pressed. âAnd youâre face is red, so youâre lying. Whoâs the girl?â
âI wasnât with a girl, youâre drunken mind must be mistaken.â Hansol set the water on the counter, heading to get a trash bag from under the sink. âThe closest I got to sex with anyone was y/n falling asleep on my floor.â
Chan thought for a minute. âThat makes sense, I guess. I was pretty wasted.â
Once he left to get changed, Hansol released a breath. Lee Chan was his best friend. He hated lying to him. But what could he tell him? Hey, by the way, for the past six months Iâve been fucking our best friend Minghaoâs best friend. Donât tell him, though, because thatâs breaking the bro code. Yeah, right.
You walked into the kitchen, seemingly just waking up. You had changed into a large t-shirt (probably Minghaoâs or Hansolâs, he couldnât think of whose), and you hadnât brushed your hair.
Checking the room first, you stepped in front of Hansol in between the counter and his body. You wrapped your hands around his waist. You leaned forward and landed a kiss on his cheek.
âWe shouldnât...â he started, but you kissed his lips.
He kissed you back, gently. The kiss was full of soft pecks, very slowly, and sent electricity up his spine.
Suddenly, you pulled away and pushed yourself onto the counter. Hansol was left wanting more, bruised lips and closed eyes.
âGood morning, guys.â Minghao and Soonyoung entered the kitchen.
Hansol could never understand how two boys were both (1) constantly drunk, and (2) very skinny, manage to never have hangovers. They were the two who would wake up early after a night out for dance practice and go for a jog before anyone is even awake.
âGood morning.â you waved, trying to seem exhausted. Hansol knew you werenât.
Minghao watched you skeptically, but decided to ignore the thickness in the air.
âOne of you grab the trash bags, Chan is getting the people out.â Minghao said. âMingyu is still having sex apparently, and weâre tired of hearing it.â
You chuckled and hopped off of the counter.
Chan shifted his bag over his shoulder as he walked the halls. It had been a stressful day full of essays and awful lectures; all he wanted to do was go back to his room and pass out.
He pushed up his glasses when he caught a glimpse of you sitting in the cafeteria. He rushed to your table, sitting on the bench across from you. It was cooling down outside, snow not yet falling.
You looked up and smiled, looking just as stressed as he felt. You had about four book in front of you as you typed in your laptop. Chan sat his bag down beside him and rummaged through to find his papers.
âWhy must we always have so much homework after the weekends?â you muttered, mainly to yourself.
âThey know weâre hungover and want to hit us with an iceberg.â Chan laughed.
You laughed too, trying to get rid of the headache as much as possible. You leaned back in the chair in hopes of releasing the pain.
A hickey appeared on your collarbone, making Chan stop in his tracks. Of course, he had never expected you to be a virgin, but he never thought of you having sex recently. His mind immediately went to Minghao, since you were always in their frat house and hanging out with him it would only make sense.
âSo, whoâs the lucky guy?â he interjected, making you lean forward and stare at him in confusion.
âWhat lucky guy?â you asked. Your heard pounded in your ears.
âYou have a hickey on your shoulder. And another one on your collarbone.â he stated, reaching over the table to pull your shirt higher. âWho did that?â
You cursed Hansol in your head. You warned him not to leave marks.
âNo one important.â you shrugged.
âYou donât do one night stands.â Chan stared at you.
For as long as he had known you, it was one thing you both agreed on. You both found it useless to have sex with someone who you didnât trust or someone you didnât know the name of. It wasnât as though you were looking for âthe oneâ, you just found it stupid.
âChan, really, itâs nothing.â you sighed. âI donât want to go into it right now.â
âRight, of course.â he let it go. âWhat are you working on?â
The night air burned Chanâs ears. Minghao walked next to him, taking in the scenery of the cityâs lights. It was a bit of a stress reliever, walking in the cold without speaking in the neon lights of the streets.
âHow did you pass your first year of university?â Chan spoke first, making Minghao put his phone into his pocket.
âI didnât.â he replied, laughing. âI barely passed, scraping through hell in the last week with exams.â
Chan rolled his eyes, even with the smile on his face.
âOn a much more serious note, do you have any idea who the mystery guy is?â
âWhat mystery guy?â
Chan looked up at him. âY/nâs mystery guy. She had hickeys on her earlier and I asked where they came from she told me ânobody importantâ. I figured that you would know.â
Minghao froze. He knew something suspicious was going on with his best friend, but he figured she would tell him eventually. This was different. She had never kept things from him, she had never slept with someone without giving him full details in which he could cringe and tell you to fuck off.
