         𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆  𝐇𝐈𝐒  𝐆𝐀𝐙𝐄  𝐀𝐖𝐀𝐘  𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌  his  book  for  a  second,  chase  is  surprised  to  find  a  very  tiny  child  staring  up  at  him.    ❛ hi  there, ❜     for  a  moment  he’s  confused,  until  he  hears  the  sound  of  approaching  footsteps.     ❛  don’t  be,  ❜    he  smiles  as  the  baby’s  doe  eyes  remain  on  him.     ❛  looks  like  she  was  just  a  little  curious. ❜

“oh, she’s very curious,” they say with an apologetic smile. they’re still getting used to how friendly—or at least tolerating—most people are of babies. now that they have esther, shiloh gets so much more attention than they’re used to. “she just started walking, so she wants to explore everything. including other people.”

            heart     is     set     alight     in     the     presence    of     the     little     one,     smile     stubborn     on     her     lips     as     ocean     hues     scanned     actions.     bex     shakes     her     head     once     more     when     the     other     speaks,     emphasis     on     the     fact     that     it     was     no     bother,     no     need     to     apologize.     ❝     thank     you,     that     is     kind     of     you,     i     was     really     just     doing     a    quick     sketch.     ❞     looks     from     them     back     to     the     little     one,     head     tilting     as     she     smiled     once     more.     ❝     you     know     i     really     wouldn’t     mind     sharing     with     her,     if     you     have     no     issue?     she     seems     so     sweet,     she     deserves     it.     ——-     don’t     you,     lovely     one?     ❞    she     inquires     in     soft     higher     tone,     addressing     her.

“well, it’s a very nice quick sketch,” they say with a smile. humans were always so quick to downplay their accomplishments, as if they weren’t capable of incredible greatness, creativity shiloh themself was jealous of. at bex’s offer to let esther draw, they nod their head gently. “if you truly don’t mind. she’d love to scribble.” the tiny girl in their arms was still reaching for the other’s supplies, babbling in frustration.

 “ oh,  this is enjoyment —- ”   she clarifies voice murky with confusion,  head dipping ever so slightly to observe the child better — as if a better view would make this statement more clear.    “ got it,  got it. ”   back straightens and her head is held a bit higher.   “ hello esther,  my name is carson. ”   a finger is stuck out and placed beneath the child’s fingers,  giving a very dignified hand-shake.

shiloh’s smile grows when carson offers her finger, but no sooner is it in esther’s grasp than the baby tries to get it into her mouth. “oh good lord,” shiloh says, pulling her away but laughing despite themself. “i’m sorry. she tries to chew on everything. did she get you?”

have they ever been married? are they married? — they’ve never been married and they don’t really want to be. shiloh is a very kind and loving person, they’re just very very bad at commitment and being tied down.

do they have allergies? — no allergies, one of the perks of being an angel

do they have tattoos or piercings? — a constellation of stars across the fingers of their right hand and a halo on their left thigh. one lobe in each ear, cartilage peircing on left ear.

opinion on pets? cats or dogs? — they like pets in theory but wouldn’t really know what to do with them? if anything they’d get a bird because Wings but like....wtf do you do with a pet?? how do you manage to feed yourself, a pet, and a child??? that’s too much

opinion on horror films? — not a fan. they’ve seen enough horrible things in their long life that they can’t imagine why anyone would want to watch things like that for fun.

            she     is     at     the     park,     kneeling     on     the     grass     and     looking     up     at     the     sky.     sketching     away     clouds     that     ocean     hues     drink     in,     own     mind     crafting    shapes     from     them     and     inking     them     onto     her     paper.     not     long     until     concentration     breaks,     small     being     approaching     her.    precious!    smile     breaks     through,     truly     vibrant     as     bex     looks     up     at     new     company.     ❝     you     do     not     need     to     apologize     for     that,     it     was     a   pleasant    addition     to     my     day.     ❞

before her parent gets to her, esther reaches for the paper bex is drawing on, and she squeals in anger when she’s snatched away from it. “i’m glad she didn’t disturb you,” they say with an apologetic smile, ready to walk away before they see what the young woman is doing. “oh, that’s lovely,” shiloh says, crouching to get a better look. “i never let her play with my art supplies; i bet that’s why she headed for yours.”

 “ oh —— ”   there are two big eyes staring up at her from a low height.  carson’s own eyes widen as she recoils just slightly,  as if worried of stepping on the little one.   “ oh,  no,  don’t worry about it ! i’m,  uh,  just not great with …  small humans.  i mean,  i’m —— i have the same taste as a toddler but somehow we just don’t click. ”

esther continues babbling, unphased, to the blonde girl as her parent picks her up. despite themself, shiloh can’t help smiling, a mix of embarrassment and pride. “well, she seems to like you,” they say. “are you saying hi, esther?” their usually soft voice pitches every higher as they talk to their daughter.

was ten months a little young to be walking? maybe, but esther was doing it anyway. she wasn’t great, of course not, but she was doing her best. shiloh’s taken her to the park and is sitting in the grass with her as she toddles around and coos softly. before they can stop her, she makes her way over to another person in the park and looks up at them expectantly. “sorry about that,” shiloh says, hurrying over and scooping their daughter into their arms. “she’s a friendly one.”
