ㅤSANCTUM — THE CURIOUS CAT'S DREAM
this sanctum stretches across a dense cluster of old apartment rooftops connected by narrow bridges; shifting in and out of sight depending on time and weather. the upper layer feels exposed but familiar, with rain-worn roof tiles, tangled wires and small improvised shelters tucked into corners where wind doesn't reach. some rooftops are open and wide; used as gathering or resting places, while others are broken or partially collapsed, causing them to form uneven paths.
between these rooftops are narrow vertical routes; stairwells, ladders, and maintenance shafts which lead downward into interior layers. these transition spaces feel more enclosed and humid, filled with dim hallways and forgotten storage corridors where light flickers inconsistently. they function as passageways, but for those smart enough, they may even be hiding places.
lower still are the hidden interior spaces; abandoned apartments and tucked-away rooms that feel more stable and warm. these areas tend to be softer in atmosphere; blankets, worn furniture, dim lamps, and cluttered surfaces. some rooms, while loosely maintained, do feel communal— while others are deeply private and difficult to locate unless already known.
sometimes, random pathways and doors appear and then disappear. sometimes, they connect places, sometimes they open new ones; it depends on whoever's hand is on the doorknob.
the inner rooms feel more like a set of small, improvised spaces rather than an actually structured building. there is a nest-like sleeping area built from overlapping blankets and pillows, always slightly messy but always available to those who need them.
nearby sits a cramped lounge filled with collected objects and decorations. a narrow bathroom with worn tiles and warm lighting sits just beyond a small, cool hallway. hidden between these spaces is a small crawl-space like retreat which can be used when things become overwhelming; offering complete withdrawal without feeling abandoned.
above and around it all— a loft space holds books, trinkets and other kinds of things; there is even a kitchen area that connects everything.
shared spaces include the kitchen (which, as mentioned before, is connected to the lounge), the lounge itself, a rooftop garden and a central resting room. individual spaces tend to be hidden or elevated, either in the attics of these structures or taking form as tucked away lofts or locked shelters.
ㅤ⸝⸝ ⠀ambience description —
constant rainfall which leaves the smell of rainwater around, muffled city sounds, humming radiators, soft static from old electronics. the lights above also flicker with a light buzz, and the dusty air is warmed by body heat and blankets. through the dirty windows, the moonlight shines in.
you are free to adjust anything in this letter ! we hope you like this stray cat just as much as we do.
